We appreciate their committal to finishing the tournament together and making it easier on us here at IPL. I look forward to seeing how they utilize their different players in the matches ahead! =)
Dignitas doesnt have a realistic chance. Select has been in a slump lately and SjoW can do very well but i dont see him winning more than one match. I just hope at least they force slayers to send their code S players
Apart from Apollo blind countering everyone with his hax player knowledge, I can't see it going too well for Dignitas. Hoping for Bischu to surprise everyone. :D
Also, EG would lose 10 team league games in a row to SlayerS if they were serious, as would any foreign team. Just, no foreign team has the depth or unity of a korean team, let alone the practise or coaching/etc.
IMO, the only thing standing between SlayerS and an allkill is SeleCT. Even then, I don't see how Dignitas can take this unless it's 5 all-ins in a row
5-2 with Slayers winning. (Select or Sjow can probably take 0-1 games a piece) Or 5-0 Diginitas is they send their zergs first and tell them to do roach attacks
i wish they had chosen a more interesting matchup as a league premier. MARKETING guys MARKETING if its just another slayers all-kill or a 5-1 with Slayers B teamers people will get bored and wont tune in next time

The more Slayers wins it makes me wanna tune in more so I can see who finally dethrones them.

I had a huge argument regarding the infinite forcefielding of a ramp. Regardless of balance it just seems like a shitty mechanic to me. (i am not zerg).
Lol got no chance in anything but 4gate vs. 4gate so you pick TD, very smart actually. Gotta do what ya gotta do. Still unsure if it will work but good thinking nonetheless.

Wow what the fuck is with teams quitting like this? First Millenium now Dignitas? I really have a hard time supporting teams that pull crap like this and IPL really shouldn't stand for them doing that. Just start uninviting teams that do this.
Not your fault IPL, you guys are great. Just don't put up with this crap anymore.
I assume SeleCT and Sjow probably weren't avaliable. SeleCT's been going to a lot of tournaments in the past 2-3 weeks. Not sure when these games took place though.
The penalty is that we are far less likely to invite them to future events. We obviously don't want teams to not finish out a series, but it is also different from if they didn't show up completely.

It's a helpless feeling really, knowing that your entire lineup is unable to do anything to stop a B-teamer (whom very few people had even heard of before Team Arena) from decimating your team. Perhaps the worst part is knowing that even as you are losing, you are being toyed around with and can do nothing to stop it. Liquid put up some resistance against the B-team, as did Tyloo (or more like just Uhen), but Millenium, Acer, aTn were all helplessly played. It's a very humiliating experience.
Should they have forfeit? Hell no, you fight until the end.

Perhaps they have school tomorrow with Millenium. Anyway, I am very disappointed, I set some time aside to watch this and I thought the teams and players would put their best effort in. There needs to be a clearer penalty imposed, it robs the fans from around the world to see some games. Forfeiting without good reason, esp. without bothering to put you have strong players in the line up, shows that the team weren't treating this seriously and were being disrespectful. It's to put it bluntly, a mockery and Dignitas needs to apologize to the everyone in the community.
---
Edit (7/12): Okay, they apologized and explained, so I am satisfied now. Apology accepted. In future, can the teams do their best to compete in these events? It is a good opportunity to gain exposure, and see some people you don't normally play.
If the teams don't have enough players, they should notify the organizers and other teams to see if they can get special permission to use another player - for example the the 'SlayerS vs Alternate' team arena, ESC.Goody was granted special permission to play. I'm sure there are many other pro-gamers itching to have a chance to get the opportunity to play in this series.

Mouz did a good job, losing 3-5 to Slayers' A-team (mostly). Liquid did decent as well, and actually had the lead at one point, but alas, the Slayers B-team was too strong for TL.
What I don't understand is why a team would sign up for an event like this, and forfeit out of the first round when they are down in maps. I feel like it has to just be that they didn't have a fifth player available. Otherwise it just seems nonsensical.

Technically yes but you can say that about any team. We've already gone over the team selection issues. Is it disappointing that Dignitas didn't bring out Select, Sjow, or a 5th player? Yes. Is it worth tons of drama and bashing on Dignitas? No.
On December 06 2011 11:46 iSometric wrote: Maybe Select and Sjow were too busy practicing for something else/away?
Maybe, but there are no major tournaments that they are going to this month that has a bigger prize pool than this, and they seriously cannot take an hour from their week to play a game?
Know why Slayers uses so many B-teamers? First to hide the strategies that the A-team plans to use in the GSL and other major tournaments, but also to give them experience competing and practice. Playing in this likely would have helped Select and Sjow with their practice, and give them a chance to test their skills.

It definitely does mean a lot of me. I meant "bashing" more as serious attacks on Dignitas, who have competed faithfully in IPL 1, 2, 3 and other tournaments we've run. Them not being ready with a 5th player sucks, no doubt, and they should have been ready to go but it doesn't mean that they are a terrible team who was out to disrespect us, you, and the audience in general. This is literally the first incident we've had with them, and jumping on them for forfeiting one game seems a little premature. Not saying the audience shouldn't be disappointed though, as we certainly were.
Quite frankly this is embarrassing on the part of Dignitas to not be able to field a 5th player in a tournament with this kind of money on the line when you have nine people on your roster. After first Mill. and now Dignitas I can't see Boxer having that favorable of an opinion over the conduct some of the Western teams show in the events. I don't know how IPL goes about scheduling these matches but from my viewpoint IPL has always done well to accommodate.
These guys are supposed to be professionals and half the roster can't show up to represent their team and sponsors in a team tournament of this size. I guess a Western Proleague is not an attainable goal if the standard these teams have for themselves is so low.
well i dont see anything wrong... people quit all the time.. i rather forfeit 5-1 rather than be toyed with and lose 9-1...
it is disrespectful but there is a reason why there is a surrender button.. if you ever think you cant win you click it. this is the same thing as forfeiting a tournament

Can't IPL just check if the series has been played out and just broadcast a different series while Dignitas/Slayers finishes this one at a later date?
If the teams can't finish it in one day due to expected reasons, they should be able to finish the next day or something. Idk how it works but it sounds reasonable.

This is true, we aren't arguing this. The point is that there is over 7k to 10k people who were left in the lurch, believing that there was going to be a good fight to the end. To say to the effect, "Let's forfeit - stuff it, we aren't going to win", sends the wrong type of message out - I enjoy watching people fight to the very end, esp. when there is fans to entertain and money on the line... BoxeR fights to the very end and is inspirational. [If the reason was that players were not available, this tournament has been advertised for over a week; many people had the mind to put it on their calendars, for the Dignitas Team Manager to not arrange the availability of players is a severe failure.]
TyLoo last week, some people may not have been happy with the tactics of Uhen, but he took it to the final game - and almost won, had Alicia not been on the ball! That was really exciting. What did I get today? I watched a team who simply gave up. Hope the sponsors take note of teams like this who don't bother with air time and care about fans.

The crazy thing is, that Dream tried a very similar attack with the FF on the ramp against Golden, and was close to winning, but then decided to attack the spine-defended third rather than the main. Slayers just so good. Crazy thing is we have not even seen one of their top Terrans since Ryung months ago.

I've played several sports competitively (at an amateur level, but seriously) so I know what it feels like to have to endure an entire quarter or half of humiliation after the result has already been all but decided. That's why it makes no sense to me to give up That's why I also get annoyed/disappointed at preemptive ggs. Oh well.

Extremely tight schedules and troubles with fitting KST with CET led to this unfortunately. SlayerS could only play at certain times which were either extremely late for us or extremely early and we also had players attending both MLG Providence and Dreamhack Winter during all of this, including the travelling time for players who went to both events (SjoW & SeleCT for example) it was just very hard to find a fit time. We did what we could to bring out a 5th player but in the end we couldn't pull through. This is of course disappointing both for us and for the fans/viewers but know we really tried our best to get this to work.

Stop talking about that, they defended Millenium aswell and no team needs to be bashed when they forfeit a game. In all this thread it's like if you were robbed of something... This is ridiculous, if you wanna see a game there is like 20 millions wich you can see on the internet with VODs, Replays and livestreams. Just forget about this issue, this is not a drama
why dont just every team surrender so we can get it down to SlayerS vs EG... it is shame about time zones and such but hey that is life, and a team should go to the end and i mean we are clearly seeing the difference between team houses and just teams. also gotta hurt so baad for the foreigner teams to know that when a team like SlayerS come with Code A or B lineup guys then they still steam roll those that are considered very very good players by casters and fans.
SlayerS FTW and this is a great example that the so called october revalution is nothing but overhyped by fans/writers and commentators the Koreans are still miles ahead and can afford to take a pause for 3 months and still be way ahead.

hey, dignitas sc2 manager here. first of all, obviously, i personally and the dignitas management are very sorry about what happened with this match. by forfeiting the last player, we took away a lot of the excitement for this match for all of you guys and especially disappointed the IPL who gave us a chance to compete in this amazing tournament. we were very grateful when we were asked to replace a team short-notice and accepted the fact that we were massively behind schedule to play the game.
unfortunately, we came to this tournament at a very unlucky timing with mlg only a few days away. this was not a problem for slayers as they said they don't depend on boxer and mma (who were also attending mlg) but for us it was. we accepted the invitation thinking we could work something out which as it turned out we couldn't. our attempts to get sjow and select to play from the venue didn't work out. same with the idea to play their games on the morning after their return from mlg (at noon they would already leave for dreamhack again). so at this point we were already delaying the tournament to a horrible extent which made us feel really bad seeing as IPL have had the understood hope in us to catch up with the scheduling quickly. since i saw no way to tax IPL's patience further, i had to forfeit the last player.
i hope that you can at least understand our point of view that the tough time situation (which noone but us for accepting the invitation in good faith is to blame for) and our refusal to delay the tournament even further left us with no choice. thank you.
i am not surprised that 5th player for dignitas wasnt ready, i guess everyone expected that star players (KiLLer or merz) can all-kill low team like SlayerS

Don't post memes on TL, it's in the rules. It is very weird that they forfeited without putting out a 'big name'.
Agh, the end was disappointing, but with a manager and a player of dignitas apologizing for it, there shouldn't be any hard feelings. Besides, the missing players had good reason why they could not participate, so it's okay (<- not a Naniwa "it's okay" which can mean anything).

You know that is all it takes to turn something negative into a positive. A lot of viewers just want to see that someone at Dignitas cares enough to respond. Even though it should have been a statement from the team I appreciate Sjow responding.

Alex from IGN said that the consequences for dignitas is that they will less likely be invited to future ipl events. However, we see that Millenium was invited even after the last debacle. I feel like IPL is speaking double talk. they talk the talk, but when it comes down to it they don't back up their words with action.

They are trying to start up a new team league, and you do not want to burn bridges like that. Without the teams, this event would not even be possible. Should dignitas or Millenium have forfeited? Of course not, and IPL needs to discuss with the management about this issue. But by being overly punitive to these teams, IPL destroys the working relationships that it has with these teams. IPL wants to grow, but they realize they cannot react, as it is hard to grow a team league when you start banning teams from participation.

Millenium was slotted to participate before they played SlayerS in the normal Team Arena. Hope that's clear.
