Players will be informed before the tournament of any such modifications.** Tournament procedure: This is changing for the actual tournament. The 128 players will be split into 16 groups of 8 players. Each group will play a round-robin bo1 series against everyone else in the group (total of 7 games played by each player). From here, the tournament progresses into a 64-man double-elimination bracket. The 1st and 2nd place players from each group will be placed into the upper bracket, the 3rd and 4th place players will be placed into the lower bracket, and the 5th to 8th place players are eliminated from the tournament. From here, matches are bo3 up to the finals which will be bo5. Procedure of map choice for best of 1 matches: the maps for the groups stage games will be determined by the WGF committee before the start of the tournament, after registration has closed. Procedure of map choice for best of 3 matches: Player A and B will be decided by coin toss, with Player A being the winner. Player A removes one of the maps, player B removes one map, and player B thumbs down one of the remaining maps, that map will be used for the third match if necessary. Player A then picks the map for the first match. Procedure of map choice for best of 5 matches: Player A and B will be decided by coin toss, with Player A being the winner. Player A eliminates one map, then Player B eliminates one map. Player B thumbs down one map, that map will be used fourth, Player A thumbs down one map, that map will be fifth. Then player A picks the starting map, and player B picks the second. The remaining map will be used 3rd.
After the match is over, the players must save the replay file to allow a tournament official to check the match results if needed. If the replay file is not saved, the player may be given a warning or lose by default at the tournament director’s sole discretion.
ADDITIONAL RULES + Show Spoiler +Players will sign-up with their real name and SC2 Character Code with their account on http://www.sctechcomm.org and show ID at check-in. I demand that there be extended series!
|
... extending a bo1 to a bo3?
a bo3 to the bo5 finals?
|

|
Way better format than the Bo1s last year
|
i'll try to make it this year, finally :D
|
im so proud of you guys

i'll be there in spirit...or in person we'll see
EDIT: and for those of you who are talking about the Bo1's last year (that was because we had one day to finish the whole 128 man tournament, a difficult feat! the original plan did not have Bo1's but we were forced to do so to make the losers bracket catch up)
|
so this isnt a 1day toruny?

You got my hopes up when I saw Halo anniversary. It's just halo reach with halo ce maps. I still can't get over that. I don't know how to weight that previous sentence more, but whenever I realize it I just get this 1000 yard stare for 30 seconds.

I do believe I'll have to attend this.
Probably more for the League of Legends, though. Sorry! ;p

Can we use MLG Antiga and MLG shakuras?

Wait so wintergamefest doesn't have DotA anymore? Also, what's the news on the Brood War thing off to the side?

How unfortunate. The only two games I wanted to attend WGF for (DotA and BW) won't be there.

Well, I just got asked to be on a League of Legends team for the fest, so I'll probably be there!

No official Brood War tournament is confirmed and final. I only mentioned to someone that people could put on an impromptu Brood War tournament on Sunday if they wanted and use some of our $25 gift cards as prizes.
Btw prizes for sc2 are about to be ridiculous; just not quite figured out yet.
EDIT: wording

I know this isn't related to sc2, but does anybody know what consoles the mvc3 and sf4 are gonna be played on?

Looks like I went to UCSD two years too early =\ All the awesome stuff is now popping after I left. Gluck with the event!!

Do you have to check in at 3 on Friday?
I have work in Hollywood until 4 PM, could drive down after that but probably won't make it until 7:30 PM. Is that too late to get in and do the round robin?

It's likely we won't be able to wait that long. :\ But if you get super lucky you might be able to grab a spot lol.

whats closest location to go if my gf is just gonna drop me off with my gear / etc?
|
Does anyone have a clever way to lug around a rig? I have my tower in a "bag" basically giving it handles, but I still need a second trip for the monitor and other stuff. It's heavy, and was a pain in the butt last year because I had to wait in registration line.

Unfortunately, like last year, I'll be out of town again this year and unable to stop by though I'd recommend stopping by to at least check it out if you're nearby.

how good are the people who go to WGF?

As an alum, I really wish I could attend this year. I was there for the first of these back when Sixth College was small and in the boonies (wait...they probably still are! Revelle #1!)

It's UCSD so I'd expect a decent amount of Masters players and maybe a Grandmaster or two.

Yo, are we allowed to share a computer with a friend? Or do we have to individually bring our own?
I have 2-3 friends bringing their comps, and I can always use one of theirs if I match one of them :>
Reason I ask, is because my computer is a complete mess. :<
|
ItsGoSu will be bringing some peeps.

I'll strongly discourage sharing computers, as it may affect the timeliness of match completion. However, if you want to use your friends' computers, that's fine as long as it doesn't delay matches, or one or all of you may be in danger of loss/DQ.

so just to make it clear: we 100% HAVE to show up on Friday to participate in the tournament?
|
On January 11 2012 10:37 blabber wrote: so just to make it clear: we 100% HAVE to show up on Friday to participate in the tournament?
Sorry for the confusion folks. Let me clarify:
The SC2 tournament officially starts on Saturday. Friday is just for people who live in the area who want to check-in (get wristbands) early and setup so they don't have to on Saturday.
Friday check-in is open at 1:00PM. Saturday mandatory check-in is at 10:00AM.
EDIT: corrected times.
|
OHH ok. UCSD is about an hour drive for me so that will make things easier
but if we don't show on friday, is there a chance we dont get in the tourney?
|

If you're confirmed as registered by our system when registration closes, it doesn't matter all that much if you don't show on Friday. However, if you're waitlisted, you should wait until Saturday.

get set up; as in set ur computers up? we are leaving our PC's there ? whats security gonna be like for overnight/etc?

Few questions, 1) how can we confirm we are for sure registered? 2) What time can we stay there until Friday? 3) How early can we arrive Saturday and Sunday, reason I ask is I will always be managing the NASTL qualis Saturday and the IPTL qualis Sunday. They start at 10 am, so I need to be on before the actual start time.
Thanks!

1) Usually you'd wait for confirmation e-mail when reg closes, but I confirmed both you and STX just now. 2) The venue will close around 10 or 11 but if you need to stay longer we can work something out. 3) You can come as early as 8AM on Sat/Sun, which is about how early the committee will arrive.
|
get set up; as in set ur computers up? we are leaving our PC's there ? whats security gonna be like for overnight/etc?
You can leave your PCs in the venue overnight if you are comfortable with it; we can store your equipment securely in the venue with lock & key that only staff have access to.
|
When does the venue close on Friday? I get off work at 5:30 so I was wondering if I could set up then.

The venue closes at 9 or 10 but we'll be around for much longer. You can setup whenever you get here on Friday.

As long as there's space (no-shows, under reg cap), you can sign up for tournaments on-site. Though, you *can* sign up for multiple events online; just use the same registration site.

do you guys provide Ethernet cords?
or do we have to connect wireless ?
How is it going to be setup?

We will provide a significant amount of wired ethernet connections along with port-enabled high bandwith wireless internet.
The setup consists of a series of tables that seat 4 people comfortably with power runs provided and networking running to each.

Friday attendance is not mandatory. Friday is an early check-in/setup day for people in the area who want to skip the rush on Saturday. Mandatory check-in starts at 10AM on Saturday.
