Just wanted to clarify, this is a $20 entry fee?

The phrasing of it as a donation, or $20+ donators will be rewarded with an invite is a tiny bit odd.

I think I like the idea, but what is this going to be funding? like will this then pay for the winner to go to Korea?

Is there a cap to the bracket size?

Thank you for your questions.

The 20$ donation is part of the registration. It will indeed be used as fundraiser to send the winner of the tournament in Korea.

Finally, the bracket cap size is 256 players and it is an open-bracket tournament. The brackets will, for sure, be seeded among the most skilled registered players.

Hope this answers your questions!

@Loes ... HuK is allowed to play for Canada as the USA cancelled their event. I got the approval from both WCG and WCG USA!

Why are you calling it a "donation" if it's a required fee for entry? That's not what donation means.

Because it's a fundraiser. It's based on donations, and, for the good fellows helping us out, we will reward them with a ticket to our online event !!!!

so why can't you call it like it is, an entry fee? there's no need to play around with semantics here.

So you're sending people to WCG with entry fees, not with donations. There's no reason to hide that fact.

I think that this fundraiser is worth the name. In fact, anybody can donate as much as he wants. We could each donate more than 20$ if we want to. I would think that the 20$ thing would be something like : if we donate minimum of 20$, we have access to the tournament.

I think that way it is fair to say it is a fundraiser.

It's not an entry fee. You DONT HAVE to give 20$. You can give 5$ if that's what you want. You can also give 100$! It's a donation towards WCG Canada and we want to send opeople to korea. but for that we need a canadian champions, funds and this is how we raise them.

In exchange for your great support, we will reward 20$+ donators with an invite to our National Online championship!

Maybe it's just semantics, but the wording is misleading in my opinion.

I agree with Torte de Lini. I have full confidence in the WCG organization. Those people are highly professional and I am very thankful that they put so much effort in making that qualification. Extra money will surely be saved for next year or, if there is enough, to send more players to Korea. The maximum is 3 though according to WCG rules I suppose.

Interesting post answering your question pretty much Adebisi on the official WCG Canada FB page :

Time has come to show WCG Canada our interest in making Starcraft 2 the root of their future roster!

From the facebook page (second comment on one of the statuses):

all the expenses for WCG: that covers the loyalty fees, hotel, food, (that's the strict minimum that WCG charges us) then airfare ... 2nd and 3rd will have the option to pay their way but they will have to cover the loyalty fees on top of transport. If we get more than what is needed for the 1st player, this money will go towards #2. If #2 & 3 decline that option, it will be offered to #4, 5 and so on (we're allowed 3 players)

Also, go west coast!

If he's in korea we will still have to pay the loyalty fees for him. The rest of it will go towards #2 then #3 .... all the way until we have 3 ppl going (or less if we go through the list).

If we get to the last and he won't go and we have some money left, we will keep it for future events! This would be the only case as we don't know what will happen next year, will SC2 be a game (we can assume it will be with 99% confidence but we never know), etc.

Note: there's a maximum distance we can get to pick the 3 players going to the GF (for example, WCG will not accept the 128th player to go even if he's willing to pay. I don't remember how far we can get in the ranking, but it also has a relation to the amount of people entering the tournament).

yes ... their SC2 and CS finals will instead send the winners to Pan-Ams, not GF unless the winners want to pay their way.

I think the problem is that if you have a sc2 tournment and you charge a entry fee then blizzard wants some money. I believe WGC Canada is just trying to get around this. Anyways i'm so EXCITED!!!!

Might not want to throw other organizations names around when trying to get a point across. MLG is a lan event with a venue, you have an online qualifier that just requires you to send the qualifiers to WCG (which is expensive, but less expensive than MLG). I am glad you guys are doing this, but if you continue to do it, have better PR instead of giving us sarcastic remarks as answers.

Good luck to everyone who tries to qualify. e-Sports hwaiting!

I know Reddit used the ChipIn website to raise funds for MKP to attend WCG Orlando, so I'm wondering if we can get a running count of how much money is required to send 1st place to the event, and how much is raised so far. Getting a running count might be a better idea to rally people behind. Else they just think they're throwing money to a paypal account where they have no idea if expenses are covered.

This might just be me but it seems like a sly way of getting around income/charitable donation legalities. Had they termed it an entry fee it could be considered income. I could be off on this...

We explain the donation system already. Yes you must support WCGCanada to have a invite for the Championship.

Yeah I was actually thinking the same thing.

You HAVE to pay at least 20$ to be able to participate in the tournament so it's indeed an entry fee by definition. You pay to participate and to may be able to win the trip to Korea, the same thing as paying to play at MLG to may be able to win some cash.

The people who donate less than 20$ or 20$+ after the bracket cap size of 256 players is reached is to raise more money to send, if possible, more players to Korea. But those donators aren't able to participate in the tournament, so they can't win the trip, this is the difference between the entry fee and a donation.

The 1st place prize is paid by the entry fees of all the participants and the funds raised by the donators is used to send more players with the winner. When you donate money, its to help something, you don't expect anything in return (like being able to participate in a sc2 tournament to win a trip to Korea).

Just to make you understand maybe more my point, for example, you can't ask donations from people for, let say, bring a rock band to a certain city for a concert and then say only people who pay more than 50$ can come see it and there is a capacity of 20k. It doesn't make any sense. If you pay for something like an entrance to a concert, being able to play in a tournament, admission at a cinema etc. then it's an entry fee not a donation with a "limited reward" if you donate a minimum amount.

Quebec and British Columbia will have a free online tournament and the top 3 will obtain an invite for the Canadian Championship.

So far only those provinces have contracted us and show there support to our fundraiser and like we do for individual donation we reward them with Championship invite.

Player from all Canada can get a invite for the Championship if they show there support at the fundraiser.

Bc and Quebec qualifier will be on October 23 and the WCG Canada Championship start on October 28.

There is not much time for Ontario or any other province to do a Free qualifier for there citizen but all they need to do is donate at least 60$ and run a online tournament.

So it's not true that WCG Canada is only for Quebec and BC, it's for all the Canadian who support are fundraiser.

Yes exactly if you donate at least 20$ you will be invited to the tournament to become the well coveted titleholder of the Canadian Championship and ultimately represent Team Canada in Busan, South Korea.

If your province do a free online tournament you can try to have your invite by getting in the top 3. If you miss that opportunity you still can donate and enter the Championship.

So what's the point of running a free online tournament for Qc and BC when the players just need to pay 20$ to go directly to the Canadian Championship? Pretty useless if you ask me.

It doesn't matter, under the Income Tax Act in Canada this would still be considered business income because it is obtained in the regular course of business, whether the company wants to call it income or not.

That's like saying McDonalds could make billions by just asking for donations and giving you a choice of items based on how much you donate...

Man from what i Understand nothing was getting organize in the whole canada. Than a group of people that organize lan in the province of quebec deceide to united and make something up without the help of corporations and ask people that PLAY the game that have paid 60$ only once to blizzard to donate 20$ to the organization .and for such as a reward get an invite to the tournement that the winner will get a free trip to South Korea to represent the country for free ( at least they hope to get enough money to do it) i think its a fair deal. I paid for it , wont win it but happy to have done a lil part in supporting Esport in my country. 20$... lol 20$! . I dont understand people trying to be that cheap.... The desire to have absolute clarity, here is the money/invite information as I have understood it:

- Anyone is allowed to donate any amount they would like and the money will go towards paying for the trip of as many players as can be afforded (up to 3) to send to WCG Worlds. They plan to pay the trip of at least one person and then more if they can afford it.

- If you would like a spot in the Canadian championships you can donate $20 or more and it will be given to you.

- People in both BC and Quebec put up $60 in order to pay the entry fee of three players from those provinces. People will be able to compete in those tournaments for free (on the 23rd) and the top three players from each will receive free entry into the Canadian championships.

I think that is it, correct me if I'm wrong.

^ you are correct sir!

As for the differences between a donation and an entry fee:

Entry fees are applied to open tournament. This is a invite/reward based tournament and one way to get in is to support WCG Canada with a 20$ donation (or more). Beside this, you can qualify for free through a provincial qualifier (BC and Quebec only). Why is it a donation, because you can donate less than 20 if you want and you can donate more than 20 if you want. Nothing related to taxes or that kind of stuff (nor any shady business).
Nothing is impossible, you are only limited by fears ... and even that you can overcome!

Just a reminder to all players from Quebec that there is less than 24 hours left to register in the free WCG Canada - Quebec Qualifier Tournament, hosted by Qcstarcraft.

Register now for the tournament held this Sunday, October 23rd, at 10am Eastern.

Top 3 will receive automatic qualification for WCG Canada.

All info (in french only, sorry :S) and registration here : Tournament Signup

Of course, registration is open to anyone from Quebec, french or english. If you have any questions, post here and i'll be more than happy to answer you. You can also contact me in-game @Kadium.390

Registration closes tomorrow at noon. Might expand it until 5pm if I get a couple last-minute requests but i'd prefer you to register anyway and then cancel if you can't be there anymore.

You can't play?

Don't worry. You'll be able to catch all of the action on the Qcstarcraft stream channel with TwentyOne and myself !

EDIT : BRACKETS ARE UP !!! \\\ HERE !!

So, the tournament is supposed to start today, I have a few questions:
1.Are we playing only the first round today/What is the schedule gonna look like?
2.At what time are we supposed to play?
3.When will the brackets be generated?

I couldn't find the answer to these anywhere, I'm sorry if this was made clear anywhere.

Thank you for answering as soon as possible!

You can find the schedule on the web site. www.wcgcanadasc2.ca.

It may change because we have less player invited that expected.

Registration and invite donation dead line will be delayed to Wednesday October 26

Bracket, seed and finale schedule will be publish on October 27.
Make sure to complete all three registration steps on www.wcgcanadasc2.ca

If your ID is below the line on the challonge players list that mean your registration is not completed properly or has fields missing.

If you don't complete your registration before October 26 23:00, you will not be invited to the WCG Canada Championship.

To be even more precise, I'd like to mention that both the BC and Quebec "invitational tournaments" were held by private parties outside of WCG Canada's organisation (such as us) that decided to reinvest their advertising money into sending players that might not have been able to register otherwise for whatever reason.

There was a thread opened for the BC invitational but not for our tournament, instead I made the messages here so I might as well report the results here as well. It's a bit late, I'm sorry, but here they are :

The 3 players invited by Qcstarcraft to WCG Canada are : Brackets

- InvMoi (~1700 Master Protoss in Season 3) from McGill University's CSL Team
- Debussy (~1500 Master Zerg in Season 3) also from McGill's CSL Team
- ePiJakeBake (~1500 Master Zerg in Season 3, Top 100ish GM in Season 2)

3 players we will follow closely !

Also, I wanted to post the name of the players I am 100% sure they're from Quebec in the 32 qualified players,

Mission accomplished for the Quebec community. 17 out of 32 players is a LOT. You're showing the rest of North America that Quebec's SC2 Community is strong and interested in taking part in these events. GL HF to all 32 players !

I guess that is all. Oh wait, am I the only one who thinks there are wayyyy too many Protoss players in this tournament? Sounds like we're gonna cast a lot of PvPs this afternoon !

So sick.

Great to see events in Canada makes me think I should have attended.
Still is think Huk is going to roll through this bracket with the real concern being Kiwi but even then it's huks to lose.

Can't wait I hope it's organized and tries to show as many of the games as possible.

Note to the casters:

If you plan on commentating again, please invest more money into your equipment. A 20$ budget is why you have 150 viewers at peak. BTW- If the entertainment business is what you plan to stay in, look to spend 150$ on a microphone, this item is costly, though will last you some several years.

Having to listen to enviromental noise and vocally generated air caused me to not watch some of my favourite players. I am certain 90% of Canadian viewers, if as articulate as me, would agree with me on what your streams problem was and why no one listened. Mind you, french Canada can do better for ratings, I think they know why too^^.

Good job, you ruined WCG Canada!

"You ruined WCG Canada" ... This is a very disrespectful statement seeing that they MADE IT HAPPEN. Glad to see some other people taking WCG Canada for what it is , a communauty attempt to send players to WCG Grand Finals in Korea. It's not your typical event with 10 sponsors and it's normal the casting isn't going to be held in a studio with top notch equipment.

Now the sound quality could have been better, I heard it too, but I think that you should enjoy this event over no event. Saying they ruined it when originally it wasn't even supposed to happen is just...

I think SPize is right.THEY MADE IT HAPPEN!

Before you set or make standards, you try and host and commentate all the matches.
Dont watch, this isnt for you, this is for those who care more about the game than the faults of a low budget by volunteers and im not talking regular WCG crew, these guys are separate, private organized people who do this for those who want to see their homeboys play.

not for you.

*yes it could have been better quality, but were not exactly overflowing with dollars and funds (we have nearly nothing)

I absolutely agree
When WCG themselves didnt do anything about wcg canada these guys stepped in to save it
Its so wonderful to see how passionate some people are and the length they would go to save something that means a lot to them

Day 2 of WCG Canada is starting up. Looks to be a showdown between BC and Quebec, with Warden, Chance, Wannabe and RoyalFlush representing BC and Attero, Kiwikaki and AlexCMoi representing Quebec.

Nothing to add , its always easy to spit..STFU and donate if you dare.
you can spend minutes , hours , days , weeks or even months over analyzing a situation trying to put the pieces together , justifying what coud've , would've happened or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move the fuck on.
Give it up for them because they made it happen.

No, he played Canada, but is listed as having lost to the number 16 seed (with no score in games), and then instantly in the losers bracket to the number 31 seed (again with no score given). I wonder if he fell asleep :D

Sorry to everyone who feels that Saturday was ruined by the poor sound. We were scrambling last minute due to a broken headset - broken in transport.

Sunday morning I went and picked up a new mic to try and alleviate some of the issues, hopefully sunday finals were better. For the record, we're not professionals - just fans of the game, and fans of Canada. In fact, this was the first time I've ever casted anything, live or per-recorded! Bet you could tell

Anyway, thanks to everyone who tuned in, and a big thanks to you guys who defended us! Was nice to read, and I hope to be more involved in the future (and more professional for my new friend BuiltForLove!!)
