Yesterday's broadcast has had its issues. We all saw it. There are 10+ pages of whining. There is an entirely new cast going on now. Please keep whining about issues experienced yesterday to yourself going forward in the thread and allow other people to enjoy the games. |

Someone explain please Nothing even close to being remotely offensive, just slightly bad taste, some people are too sensitive to anything, I recommend them not trying Mortal Kombat 9 or The Witcher 2. Ya, it really disgusts me how sensitive so many people are on TL. This has to be the most uptight group of people I have ever interacted with. Not only that, people don't watch these things for the starcraft anymore, they're watching it to see what they can criticize.

Chill guys Really what is happening to our community? Everyone seems to expect the world with out contributing shit... Since when did gamers start acting like soccer moms at a PTA meeting? Gamers have always been like this, only difference is that now the good ol Starcraft-community has to teach other gamers the way of the force. (By the force I mean being a mannered and chill person)

Some inside info:
The NASL isn't a bustling studio of 30 people. It's 5 production people and 2 commentators. We are hiring out professional help for the sound (after the problems) we consult pro's on the stage etc... but we are not some huge broadcasting company. When people say "mistakes like this shouldn't happen.. you need to watch for mistakes!" They do. They do the best they can. A lot of these guys are running off of 4 or less hours a night. Encoding, editing, doing graphics etc.. all each day after this schedule. Do they want your sympathy? No. No they do not. Do they expect better results than what we have produced? MORE THAN YOU KNOW. Nobody is more pissed than Russ and co after each mistake.
This is the first week. None of them came from a broadcasting / league background. All of them are chasing a dream and trying to do it to the best of their abilities. When we make mistakes please tell us with all of this in mind. If you STILL feel the need to say "FIRE X" or "THIS IS FUCKING TERRIBLE" then I guess go ahead and do that.
I get to wake up in the same house as these people and watch them go at it for another 16 hours each day.
It is absolutely unacceptable to make these mistakes and they will not be made continuously. As they happen they get fixed asap. In the end it makes us better. We were never planning on 1 season so we have time to fix these things. Ideally, would they never have happened? OF COURSE. Is it possible to have caught these faster? CERTAINLY. But we didn't and we are sorry. Please understand the sheer effort and work that is going into this. This league is growing and it has growing pains. It also has amateur mistakes and huge errors. All of which will be sorted out as they come up.
I'm sure most everyone appreciates the honesty, accountability and full disclosure, but for paying customers, I don't think reading about how the production team has little experience in broadcasting tournaments is a good thing. I think most people are learning some hard lessons from MLG and NASL. Don't pay for a product until you know what the product is. Please stop. I really get annoyed with all this extremist language. It's not even the end of the first week yet and people are STILL getting top quality games. yes there are issues but they are being fixed as fast as they can (usually the next day). I really get annoyed when people assume 25$ is wasted because the first week wasn't perfect.
Excuse me? I didn't say it was wasted, I said people are learning to wait to see how things go first before paying for a service. It's the same reason why people don't always run out and buy a new OS the minute it comes out, they want to wait until the bugs get out first.
I mean, do you expect people to run out and buy a MLG pass just from blind faith? I hope no one is that dumb.
There was nothing extremist about what I said, I just don't think you understood or read what I said correctly.

I really get annoyed when people assume 25$ is wasted because the first week wasn't perfect. There is absolutely no extremist language there, that's a very well articulated post and he has a very good point. Why in the world would you hire people (not even enough people at that.. 5.. really?) with NO broadcasting/league experience.. it makes no sense and makes it look like the NASL is just trying to make a quick buck with a skeleton crew of cheap workers. The production is a nice ribbon, but we're all watching NASL for the matches between top level players. Perhaps you can call it "unprofessional" but ultimately what matters, way more than anything else, are the games being shown. There have been some hiccups there too, but we are getting a ton of games by a lot of top level players. That should be everyone's #1 priority by a long shot. And to add to this - it's not like the NASL's stance is "we are giving you top level games, deal with our mess ups, and broadcasting issues - suck it up"
They are taking a proactive stance to try produce a top quality service. Sure there are going to mistakes and bumps along the way, but the community has to be insane if they don't want this to succeed. If top level competition is what you want to see you need to stop being so damn edgy to jump on every little mistake NASL makes. It is less than one week into production and the whining has been incessant. Constant community backlash is what will sink this project.
If the criticism stays constructive and the community demonstrates a little bit of patience (and maturity) we will get to see a well produced volume of games by top tier players. What more could you want?

Stop focusing on the lack of experience part of incontrols statement.
I mean how many people do you think exist that have experience in running/broadcasting/editting esports related leagues? I'm sure there aren't very many out there... especially not outside of korea. And I'm sure everyone they hired does have experience in editting/whatever. It's not like they hired some random bum off the streets and told him to learn how to edit videos.

There's a difference between being sensitive and not liking that kind of american teenager humor. I respect the guys doing that show, but shitty immature humor and overused memes are not my cup of tea.
edit also kudos to incontrol for replying so fast to concerns from people on this thread.

How on earth do you try and build up the PREMIERE North American league with a team that has no experience? How would an investor even think this would be a good idea? I'm glad everyone is trying so hard but seriously? Don't bill the product to be a revolutionary change in eSports history if its a bunch of amateurs with big dreams.
I know that comes off as harsh but I feel we've been misled. Having said that I do hope the NASL is extremely successful I love the idea.
I think it was always obvious (at least to me) that one of the reasons why they could offer so much prize money and draw the best players was that they were going to be pretty lean on staff ... hence the lack of an open qualifier and the use of Justin.TV as a streaming partner.
I shelled out $25 because they are doing what MLG hasn't done: show high quality games, on schedule, on a frequent and regular basis with little delay.
And the stream quality IS excellent, with the HD pass.
It's not perfect, and they have TONS of room to improve, but they're getting the basics right. Which is good enough for me right now, considering I can't stay up until 2 AM to watch GSL.

G1 Painuser v Cloud?

The music and games tonight have been darn good! I am so pleased!
I can't believe Sen's so good with his ZvZ I was impressed!

Everyone who is saying 'who cares about production, it's all about the games! yes!'
You're saying that from the perspective of a diehard starcraft fan. If you want eSports to gain momentum in the mainstream, production and the quality of the product is about 900,000x more important than the actual games being played.
