protoss is bound to play defensive unless they allin, timingpush or do airharassment - there is simply no window to create "wow what impressive play" moments.

Right, and that's why people don't recommend games where the Protoss wins. Because there are no "wow what impressive play" moments (except when San is involved, because he's a boss). It's just a few attacks failing utterly and then the Protoss rolling over their opponent. It may be skilful and strategic, but it sure as hell isn't fun to watch.

I think this is exactly why people *do* recommend the Adelscott games. Rather than boring cololsus deathball stuff, he uses intelligently-managed upgraded gateway units to create advantageous positioning and then engages with it.

I've tried, oh I've tried to make that work against Zerg. Fact is, there's just too painful a timing window between when they get Hydras and you get HTs. As Protoss, you either have to go Colossus or hope they don't get Burrow Roaches or fast Hydras. If they do either, you're in a world of hurt. If you can pull off the HT mob, though, you're golden. Just keep expanding and engaging and you'll win no problem.

It works brilliantly against Terran, though. It almost seems unfair: I've got something like a 95% win ratio against Terran with this strategy.

I think San has shown that his no collosus style actually does work against Zerg. Plus MC and San have both shown that gateway units with proper force fields and blink micro can actually just run into a hydra-roach army and kill it. If you can beat Nestea and July with that style you can beat any Zerg.

if you look at statistically from the last three major tournaments, zerg have being doing generally pretty abysmal. 2 zerg in ro8 wgsl, non in ro4, no zerg in top 6 MLG, and now only 1 left potentially for ro8 in TSL. I'm not necessary insinuating that zerg are under powered, but at the very least you could argue that right now the current meta game does not favor zerg.

Result went as I expected, Hasu seems to have only one playstyle, exploiting the current imbalance of Protoss' most cost-efficient composition, instead of calling for protoss to be agressive, it forces zerg to be more proactive.

No matter how much larger zerg's food count is, the protoss death ball and turtling can curcumvent with ease, zerg are pushed to commit to extremely creative plays and i hope this meta-game shifts continually where zerg can finally figure out a smooth way of countering the turtling protoss voids/colo play. It allows lower tier players like Hasu and TT1 to appear high tier, but nonetheless a win is a win, and that's how the game should be played, there's morals behind it, simply exploiting your strengths and opponent's weaknesses.

Well played Morrow, saw some excellent zerg agression.

To Hasu, good for you.

IdrA was the highest placed zerg at MLG, and he got 13th place.

I'm extra happy that BoxeR showed a great set of games too!

I don't think balance whine will ever completely disappear from LR threads unfortunately. A lot of zergs have trouble with ZvP, this is a fact. They get dissapointed when their zerg heroes get slaughtered by toss. They shouldn't discuss it in the LR, but they just can't help themselves because they care too much about the game. It's worth noting that there was no zerg QQ in the Sen vs. Boxer series, I think it's specifically about ZvP.

Fixed that for you.

Seriously, I don't recall any discussion of zvt balance after Boxer's (fucking amazing) series against Sen. All the comments were things like "Boxer is such a badass" and "I wonder if Sen could have done better if he'd used more infestors and fewer mutas?"

Right, i was a 3300 Masters Zerg for a while last season and hit a barrier with them. I just couldn't seem to get past it and Zerg felt extremely weak. Seeing how the pros were performing it looked pretty bleak being a Zerg. Tbh, i had my QQing moments (Not on here or in the games, but let's just say expletives were said irl :p. Then i realised how whiney i sounded and if i truly felt Zerg were the weakest race. Why continue playing as them? Why instantly penalise yourself before a game has even begun? It just doesn't make sense.

So i swallowed my pride and swapped races to what i considered the strongest race if played correctly (Protoss). I've been playing them since the end of last season and the beginning of this season. And learnt so much from the whole experience. Tbh the match up i hate right now is PvZ. I never realised just how immobile Protoss feel when you are controlling them in the early game. And how deadly the little things Zerg can do are such as ling run bys and harass are. How weak Protoss are until the 5:30-6:00 minute mark and vulnerable to timing attacks/all ins/cheese. Things such as ling run bys and nydus canals can really delay your push or 3rd and really aren't utilised enough. Things you need to hit at the right time as Protoss before Zerg hit their stride.

Timings are so important for Protoss and if i went back to Zerg now, i know i would certainly play the match up differently and exploit the weaknesses i've found. I never realised how frightening an aggressive Zerg is to a Protoss player. Baneling drops are ridiculous :p. I'd recommend to anybody who has a problem with a match up. To play that race for a couple of weeks. And then you'll realise what they are weak against. What that certain build you are struggling with is weak against. And when you go back to your main race. You'll have so much more knowledge to play with and win more games as a result. And if you win all your games because that race is so OP. Then stick to it.

Seriously guys, stop QQing and start trying to figure things out. Pretend a patch is never coming and work with what you've got. It's what Brood War had to do for years.

thats why it looks so easy to play protoss, but it defenetly is not...

right - i play zerg btw, and for me its easier, i do better in that race.

You're giving swedes bad name for your biased bullshit. Better shut up. HasuObs isn't playing for your own entertainment, but to win. And if MorroW doesn't know how to handle "sitting in their base" protosses then he needs to gtfo from the tournament.

HasuObs is indeed playing for our entertainment as well as to win. If StarCraft was only about winning there would of been no TSL. No fans, no tournaments, no money. Just sayin.

I like the way you phrase this, and I think people are losing perspective on the greater picture. It should be enough to say that ZvP is probably the hardest match-up in the game currently without making a statement about balance.

This set today was really fun to watch and really had me on the edge of my seat. I think Morrow looked like the better player mechanically but his strategies were kind of stale. Haven't seen that kind of roach/hydra play in a while, but maybe thats still big in Europe or good against the styles that Hasu typically uses.
