I can completely empathize with this. A nice case in point is that I can't even make an account on their website to give feedback, I just don't see why they can't have a the free stream to entice viewers in, and those that have the means can go full crazy HD on it like people (at least tried to do) at MLG Rayleigh. Also, realistically, with the "its being broadcasted to the whole world" argument, the average forum goer is doing nearly 90% of GOM's advertising legwork, I will be more or less why the TF2 community I'm a part of will ever consider watching this. Its in GOM's best interests to make the event spread like wild fire, and that's not going to happen if they alienate their core market.

1. There is no lifetime pass to buy. 2. The price of $50 per month. Something more along the lines of 5-10 dollars an event and 30-40 dollars per year would probably get more viewers. 3. GOM's has never made the effort to make sure their streams ran smoothly. If you made the changes I know that I would probably value the GOM event and make the leap for the HD stream. I would also expect that if someone paid to view a whole event that the VODs would be forever accessible to that account even if they stopped their subscription. No VODs from before or after their subscription should be available only the ones that they had a subscription for. Just my 2 cents. Would like the numbers on how many people actually pay for this at the current rate if no changes are made.

The first reason is that it is completely overpriced. Both MLG and IEM had free(low quality) streams and also premium streams for a low amount of money. If GomTV wishes to compete with those, they can't be trying to sell their service for about 10 times the amount the others are. Even if GomTV's tournament has the highest price pool out of them all... In the end, who really cares? The same players will there anyway, and they will try just as hard for 1000$ and 10.000$. The skill level also is quite similiar. With streams this costy and comparable coverage pretty much weekly, very few people will actually pay for this. In fact, I'd approximate the amount of people who'd pay this kind of money for a stream/VoDs to around 1-1.5% of the potential people watching. Let's assume that around 100.000 different people would be interested in watching this tournament live if it was free. We'd get around 1000-1500 people paying for the service. Even though the ~30.000-45.000$ you'd make off the stream is nice and all, there is absolutely no possibility of introducing new people to the game via these streams and overall it won't be "the thing" everyone will talk about for the next months because no one was able to see it. With especially Intel being a sponsor extremely well-known in the western part of the world as well, I'm extremely confident they'd rather see 100.000 people looking at their ads than 1000 people. The gamers are naturally the ones who want a tip top quality PC for all their games, they're the best target audience for a company like Intel. The people who have paid 20-30 dollars for the service most likely are so hardcore that they already have a great computer, hence it's not a great target audience, at least in comparison to the other 99% of the possible audience. This kind of a sponsorship deal is actually not all that great for especially Intel assuming they want the most coverate possible. That's not all, though. I've read that the Korean streaming service will be free(confirm please). Re-streams will always exist and people will find ways to watch the stream and the VoDs for free anyway. People will find ways to skip the service's costs one way or another. This is also going to make your premium service rather obsolete. All in all, it won't help you promote the game or your future tournaments to people new to the game and the competitive scene, it won't help the sponsors promote their products, and it might not even work as intended(people will find ways to watch for free). Not to mention that the service is completely overpriced and is beyond all reason. I, and many other people, would rather buy another game like Heroes of Newerth for the 30 dollars instead of using it to watch one tournament with lackluster quality(that you probably could watch for free anyway). There's also the fact that the GomTV streaming services have historically been complete garbage and unwatchable for some people, not to mention the fact that their network test indicates that their servers will crash and burn with even the slightest amount of people watching.

SC2 is so new. I have to wake up at 5 in the morning to watch the live stream for $20. and if i want to watch them later id have to pay $30.. i mean cmon? I would love to pay to watch these but these prices are too much. Also do you have economist in your company? You should be using a few weeks as a trial period for advertisement.

At first I was shocked at the pricing, and I still kind of am when it comes to the VOD ticket...$30.00? For VODs? It better be some high quality shit. The live ticket price isn't so bad but I've got too many things going on in life to watch them live.

If they provide professional, quality service, then It's no different than paying for NFL Network TV, a UFC fight, or any other event you're willing to support. I'm buying a ticket for sure.

Paying to support esports is a good thing, overpaying for proven bad quality is just straight up stupid as hell. Supporting the wrong thing just because its associated with something we love is still supporting the wrong thing.

I can completely empathize with this. Asking $25-$50/month for home entertainment is not a workable business model. Maybe if you have a great product that everyone knows is great. And I don't just mean great in the sense that it's professional and well produced. I mean great as in OMG I GOTTA SEE THIS!11. There's just so many substitutes both in entertainment in general and esports in particular that's cheaper and also high quality. Must be painful for guys like you who work very hard and would presumably like to see some returns at some point but it's just a very tough climate. Especially esports where most of your potential customers have little disposable income. You can try to change attitudes but unless you have a plan to get rid of most forms of free entertainment you're stuck. That's why I think the correct model is to ask people who can afford to pay to pay (for some premium service but mostly to support the scene) and let others get the product free, especially since the marginal cost for additional viewers is close to 0.

GOM is now responsible about bringing esports to the masses and for all you know they might blow your socks off. Stop assuming so much, let the actual product speak for itself.

Thank you man. I for one am not paying for this. The amount is ridiculous and the stream is laggy, bad for me. Most people waited for this season to start and when they find out that they have to pay a huge amount for this, not a lot of people will join. If anything, make the low quality stream and VODs for free and everything priced, or just leave the VODs for free.

However, the GOM employee who posted earlier did seem to indicate that they are trying to get a server in the US, which would make the speed test on their site irrelevant . . .
