Thanks, now you can clearly read I said I'd play from :
I'll play from 9AM most days to 10PM. I'll play VERY badly if its at 10pm. Whatcha gonna do tho! =)
My 13 hours offered there are pretty pathetic I agree. Especially when your skipping the placement of right after I said that you sent me the PM that I quoted above, basically telling me I won't be able to play.

It's up to you to make time for tournaments, not me. I did the best I could to give you a time to play, but you'd rather tell the guy who's organising a tournament with good prize-pool and abolutely no requirements for participating players (besides actually playing their online matches), that he's favoring Korean players. Also, even after apologizing to you for my angry PM you completely ignored my PM's and MSN messages, only to return now and backstab me some more... How are you the person being disappointed?
Let's also not forget that there were another 127 players which I was sending PM's discussing times, notices and second notices at the same time. Can someone actually look at the times, days and dates mentioned in that exchange and not be confused?
I told you to pick a time between 10PM and 11:59AM, you responded with:
"Just give him a walk over. Clearly my 12 hours isn't as important as the Koreans 12 hours. HF GL with your tournament."
And after that you just ignored me ... I think it's pretty funny though that you've come back to explain how I'm the bad guy. Clearly you've invested way more in this tournament than I have.

I think there was a little miscommunication there in the last few messages...
Original Message: Well, it's not like I'm trying to let you play at an unadvantageous time. It's just that you're offering me no reasonable alternatives. The timeframe we have is between 10PM and 11:59AM, pick a time and let me know because there's no alternative and this match needs to be played last week

It's a little odd how the earliest time offered from saechiis was first 9 PM [which was within the available hours offered by Sheth] and then said to be only after 10 PM. This might have prompted Sheth to just throw his hands up in the air exasperated after the last one from Saechiss - however, regardless of that, it seems the 9pm/10pm (whichever one it was) time probably would have worked - I think Saechiis slightly misread Sheth's "I'll play from 9AM most days to 10PM. I'll play VERY badly if its at 10pm. Whatcha gonna do tho! =)" as being negative/complaining which is why he gave the reply he did (the "no reasonable alternative").
However, I don't think Saechiis's reply stepped over the line because he still just wanted Sheth to finalize a specific hour, which Sheth then kinda misread as a rejection of his offer, even though they had that sliver of overlap.

Right, like in the latter statements, in the "play very badly" Sheth also said directly after "Whatcha gonna do tho! =)" - even if the earlier statement was a little bit of a ":/" moment at having to play, in the next statement he was just going with the implied "shucks oh well, okay" in a friendly manner. Like I mentioned, this was all just a perfectly understandable miscommunication on both sides in light of an extremely busy load you got.

With his remarks he implies that he will suck if I let him play after 9PM and that he will inevitably lose because I planned the match a that time. He makes it sound like I'm intentionally trying to get him to play at a bad time, while I'm actually just exploring the very limited options we have. Hence the:
"Well, it's not like I'm trying to let you play at an unadvantageous time. It's just that you're offering me no reasonable alternatives. The timeframe we have is between 10PM and 11:59AM, pick a time and let me know because there's no alternative and this match needs to be played last week"
Maybe it's just because I'm not a native English/ American speaker, but I don't see anything offensive about this PM? I very clearly tell him the situation and urge him to make a decision
Even if there was an initial misunderstanding, he had no grounds to just quit, blame me and then coming back here to tell me he's dissappointed in me. Our PM's clearly show I'm intending to plan their match whilst taking his wishes into account. I even messaged him via PM and MSN after he declared the forfeit win asking him to play that weekend. He chose to just ignore me, I guess now he's just angry that he's out even though he very well could've been with the final 8 now. As with many other players in the tournament I've actually given him way more chances than other TO's would've.

Sure, but either way nothing can be done about it now, and this isn't really going anywhere, might as well let the water run under the bridge. I'm excited to see the rest of the vids, especially the Ro16 with the invitees approaching!
|
Sorry -_-
I can get really defensive when it comes to things I care about ^^ But you're right, we'll just let that ship sail and focus on the "so-close-I-can-almost-touch-it"-ness of the RO16 main event! Just the RO8 deciding which 4 players qualify and we'll be all over the place with awesome players and streamed games
|
I think you made the right choice; you were very clear and direct from what I could see.
|
I have hosted many more tournaments that had more players, were international, and had big prizes and I can say that you attacking people in the forums because of your lack of being able to get this done is bad pr.
And yes, you, as the organizer must take responsibility for the failings of any event you're running. That's just how it goes, regardless of whether all fault is really yours or not. There were a ton of things that could have been done differently, but there's absolutely no excuse for a 128 man qualifier to take 3 months to finish. Even with the few weeks of downtime between the beta and release.
Luckily the companies sponsoring this thing are small/new (I think?), but if I were a major company sponsoring this event I'd be really annoyed that nothing has been going on. People are losing interest, random games are casted and posted just as links in the 70+ pages of the thread, the OP hasn't been updated in forever (last updated was August 1st...). The deadlines you set haven't been followed... There are a plethora of problems with this thing.
How defensive you're getting really bothers me. You as an admin need to act with more force to make sure stuff gets done in a more timely manner.

I was going to stay out but being we are talking casted I must step in.
First of to the tourney admins, Xeris is the most experienced and highest class tournament organizer in the scene bar none. You need to listen to him very carefully.
We would LOVE to cast the games on our Ustream on a regular basis, but right now it is just not feasible. The orginal idea (o so long ago) was once Rd of 16 hit to have a GGI Day for 3 weeks on iCCup TV where we casted a bunch of GGI games (RD 16 on one day, rd of 8 on another, and semi and finals on the last). However it is very hard to do so when we have no timeframe on when the next round is being played. We as a station simply cannot say "well make sure and tune in for the next GGI Day sometime between now and the end of time." It's just a bad idea. That's why the replays/casts have been random at best.
Now again I offered to help out not to take it over like a certain person tried to do earlier on in the tournament, but as a fan and a experienced tournament organizer who HAS already done international events on a regular basis. I know how it goes, and it's very obvious that the tournament organizers do not, which is a shame. So I have been delegated to the sidelines being very upset at the lack of progress with this (you can ask my staff, I bitch about this almost every single day).
When the original idea was started many people said it was too big of a project for two people with 0 tournament admin experience, and this proves exactly why, and why sponsors need to be careful who they pick to invest their money with.
As for JMS leaving, he informed me a week or so ago (when I sent out my 8th or 9th email offering to help) that he had been outed by the other admins, and his account has been hacked and he could not login.
I WANT this tournament to work, and for the 15th time I will be more than happy to bring my tournament admin experience and deep roots with all the players to make this tournament not such a flop. If you want my help, please let me know and I will get on it ASAP. If you do not, your lack of experience will further show through and iCCup TV will still be beyond happy to cast it, whenever it's done, just expect some criticism....
I would just like to apologize to the sponsors of this event, and would like to assure you this is NOT how most tournaments are run. Both ESU and ifixit.com will be receiving free overlays from iCCup TV for the main portion of the tournament as some sort of consolation.

You clearly say the Koreans can play at my time table here :
Hey,
Sorry for the late PM, somehow I thought I had araanged all the matches and then I saw you and DayFly still behind in the brackets Q_Q
You said you could play from 10Am to 9PM right?(EST). I'll try and arrange your match for wednesday if that's ok. Let me know asap!

That Wednesday I had a Dentist appointment so I said how about another day?
Then after you saying that they can't play from that time period here :
Hey,
The earliest I can ask them to play is like 10AM which translates to 9PM your time. You'll really have to make some concession because I can't ask them to play in the middle of the night. Give me something to work with!

Then you blast me with :
Wow, I can't tell you how dissapointed I am receiving such a PM. I'm not even angry any more.
All I get from American players when I say that they'll have to play at a time not completely of their liking, is that I'm discriminating in the favor of Korean players. Truth is that when you play early in the morning it will be late at night for them, and the same goes vice versa. The only difference is that they just do it, instead of saying that I'm biased or being angry I can't bend time.
It's not even the first time I've gotten this shit. I've even given you the option of just randomly picking a time, and still you dare PM me suggesting I'm being unreasonable.
You have an entire weekend ahead of you, are you seriously suggesting that you'll be occupied the entirety of the mornings and evenings during that time? Or is this too caused by me being biased?
I was wrong, I am very angry.
I'm just pointing out here, that you behaved in a very unprofessional manner. Thanks for taking all of the random quotes from what I just posted and putting them together. Here's what really happened. Enjoy your adminning I hope it never happens again.

This is why there should never be a big tourament run by no bodys, i feel bad for anyone who is a sponsor or donated to this. I am not saying you arent trying organizers, but you are doing an awful job.

I thought the first HDH was dragged out, but this tournament appears to be taking forever to even get started. I look forward to updates from ICCupTV's youtube coverage of the replays, and thank goodness for that, but I find myself forgetting about this tournament due to lack of updates, and that's unfortunate because the line-up looked really good..
