Is it still better to make infestors to support an army of roaches in ZvZ? I usually do roach/hydra, like every single zerg in my league (I'm high plat), but often guides say that infestors are a much better option. (In terms of standart play, against mass roaches and so)

I know they were very useful in WOL ZvZ, but are they still viable in HOTS?

Get them if you are vs muta first. If you are vs roach. get roach hydra first,

If I see roach/hydra I've been doing a mass roach/speed bane +2/+2 timing.

It's been working really well in high plat.. but is this just because my opponents aren't all that great?

Countering and getting to hive is so much easier! The only time I really make mutas now ironically enough is against mech.

I have been! It's been my go-to almost every single game. I've been working on getting to it safely in the opening a lot, and I'm finding that if I get quick speed, overlord speed, and a baneling nest, I can be safe against pressure and all-ins, and if I see greed, often pressure or kill him myself.

Drops aren't as big a deal as I thought they'd be. You end up with spores in your mineral lines in a LOT of games anyways because of banshees before you have lair.

I really like it. The roaches can trade okay with the bio, especially when the medivacs are in low counts (which tehy have to be since the corruptors kill so many of them,) and they can tank the widow mine shots, allowing the banelings to come in. It's great. You can just fight the terran army, and you can transition into the lategame way easier. It's been way better than muta/ling/bane so far in diamond, and the games I've lost with it have all been from really big mistakes on my end (like bad engagements off creep.)

I also like that it's not bad against mech, either, so you can kind of just go for it and it'll work against whatever comp they make.

in a SH, corruptor, viper, infestor vs tank (thor) viking raven situation, when it is reaching that stalemate, more or less how do I want to split up my supply on drones, SH, corruptor? I assume about 5 infestor and 5 vipers is about right. Should I leave some supply for ling harass etc?

alright boys, can someone help me and tell how do you fight skytoss turtle?

I assume you fight a turtle with a turtle of your own with mass spore/SH/viper?

You can out expand and Mine him and then "turtle" but another method is just to performa Ling Hydra push at 10:30 out of three bases and just Kill him.

What's the best way to punish a failed cannon rush? I feel like even when I shut down a cannon rush hard, the Protoss can just expand immediately and go into a macro game with no economic deficit. How do I exploit them?

expand and out macro them, it will put them in a huge macro deficit, just it isn't something you can normally punish immediatly. Just get a quick 3rd and out macro them, even 3 hat before pool after you stop a cannon rush is great.

I love failed cannon rushes. It makes me feel safe enough to skip roaches and go straight into lair, going straight for ling/hydra to defend anything, or use to pressure 3rd.

Basically a failed cannon rush means everything toss does will be slower (especially 2base allins), so you can drone harder and tech more than you could otherwise. It gives zerg a very comfortable starting position.

I find it's better to add on some hydras as you take your 4th base and the rest of your gas. I usually use 3-4 gas on 3 base for roaches (assuming they open roach) then take a 4th and add hydras. I find it is safer than try to make both off 3 base given the current meta of massing roaches.

Depends on what style you want to play. Snute and Stephano when they play SH like to just go for the long drawn out slowly whittle away style. Jaedong, on the other hand, showed some nice aggressive play vs mech using lings. check out Jaedong vs Gumiho for that strat http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/IEM_Season_IX_-_San_Jose

Probably not going to be that great in the higher levels. If I open muta I like to transition into roach speed bane becuase if you detonate on the hydras then that comp rekts (but I have a hydra transition ready) but against roaches better to go 3-4 gas roach then take a 4th base and add rest of gas and then hydras. I find that is the safest thing to do. I used to just die to bug roach pushes if I tried to get hydras on 3 base.

tbh deadwing is the only map i would use roach hydra on due to size and defensive layout. you basically just never move out until max 2/2. i think sen showed some great roach hydra play against hyun in the premier he won (forget what the tourney was) and it was on deadwing

if you use roach hydra on regular maps then it's similar to greedily droning your third base. you get a nice advantage if you go unpunished, but a proper roach bulldozer push will probably kill you

would like some help with zvp +2 blink stalker aggression while taking a third. i tried out for wcs sea qualies versed a very good terran and lost then versed a toss that wasnt other great but decent. he did a +2 blink stalker attack on deadwing while harrassing with a warp prism and took a 3rd.
i couldnt pressure the third without running into his army and defending warp prism. i managed to defend both with ling roach but he recalled blink stalker force and killed half my main drones. what comp should i go for against blink into robo collossi timing. i like ling hydra into muta but i couldnt get enough hydras to hold it off without hurting my economy.

hi!

do you (or anyone) have a basic BO for this strat? and details on your comp: it seems I make too many roaches and get pwned. just played a guy who went MMM hellbat and a couple tanks and he rocked me even though I killed all the medivacs...
I m sure I screwed up in macro and all but I also know i m playing this style "by the feel" and dont have any proper build or sense of steps... thanks in advance!

I understand that this is an unorthodox style to counter these sort of styles Protoss use, but I am Top Masters Zerg at the moment and I really enjoy using 2base Mutalisk / ling builds. I feel they really do great on these maps and catch the Protoss off guard a lot of the time, especially when the Protoss is blindly going for some sort of 2base all in, this sort of attack would be harder to stop clearly, but I think with a nice muta ball and +1 mutalisks, a large number of spines, you should be able to get him to go back to his main, kill some probes / pylons , ect. Then get a more significant advantage. If he attacks at the right timing though it can be nearly impossible to stop.

I feel a good Roach , Hydra, Corrupter style with 1-1 ranged and armor upgrade does well, the corrupters kill the colossi and the roach hydra ling kills stalkers.
