RM = 73.25 - 0.87498 * duration_minutes is the formula for calculating your benchmark for zerg race macro. All league goals will be the same for this. There will be a video that explains each benchmark, the data we used to develop it, and why we made each choice. For now, enjoy your equations!
Remember this is just for zergies, toss and terran should be getting 100% for a pass no matter what the game length (ggtracker will only be taking staircase data for games 8 minutes and longer. If a game goes past 30 minutes, the stats will be taken from the 30 minute mark).

Any advice on how to treat games like that? e.g. I'm seeing Bronze SQ solely because of being at 200/200 for several minutes. Not sure what JaK's recommendation would say about 200 food armies, but as a Terran the second I hit 200 food, I start throwing down TONS of Rax, Factories, and Expos. Expos are an easy way to spend mrls because they cost 400 each (300 if you're Zerg) and if you double expand, that's almost 1k in mrls right there. If you're floating gas, make sure you get every upgrade imaginable while producing gas heavier units. Then once my production buildings are basically done, I start basically throwing army at my opponent and just remaxing every few seconds.
There have even been times where I knew I won the game and my opponent just wouldn't quit, so I just start producing fields of CC's (like 5-10 Command Centers in a base) so I can spend my money. At that point, I can turn them all into OCs, suicide my SCVs not on gas and just mine off mules from 10-15 OCs. It's gets kind of ridiculous at times, but if you really macro hard you can definitely still keep your spending at GM level.
As an example, here's a recent game I played on ladder that was 30 minutes long: http://ggtracker.com/matches/2796352. By the end I was on 8 bases and made over 600+ units, so I basically fully maxed out 3 times over and still had a SQ of 103. Now that I look at this game, I even went completely overboard on SCVs. I probably should have started suiciding them earlier.
|
Remember that SQ isn't important. Its spending skill. For TheStaircase 6.0 Spending Skill (and all other stats) will snapshot at 30 minutes, so once you get to that 30 minute mark, and your opponent is floating buildings to the corners of the map, you can relax, it won't give you a poor result.
Until that point in the game, I suggest being aggressive. Attacking agressively, expanding aggressively and creating production so you can remax quickly and keep the aggression up. Remember this is a tool for training your mechanics and exploring the game. It isn't going to follow the meta game or strategy, it is a training exercise.

Got my GM games down, seem to spend my money a LOT better again protoss than terran or zerg. Guess it's just the type of games I end up in. Zerg is terrible... only gold in them matches. Wtf. Then again, mass marines doesn't really work well against mass roach, which they always seem to go. :D
Having trouble spending my gas, I only took two gas had 8 rax with tech labs, 4 rax with reactors, constant production. Still floating gas. I thought a full 16 + 6 gas base could only support 3 rax? Two with tech, one with reactor? Must have miss read it, still something for me to work on and learn. Massing marines and only spending minerals I can get Master/GM pretty nicely now.

well done colonel!
Now to explore and learn the beauty of gas balance.

I mean it's not a perfect composition, but mass marine is pretty effective against mass roach in middle to high numbers because marines have a smaller unit radius and a longer range so more of them will be firing at any one time and can get a better effective concave.

Thanks a lot!
@Jak: I think ggtracker is great, but what if dsjoerg decides he's bored and shuts down the website? Having the equations and the 'how' to be able to reproduce the results is a safety net.

Yea it was a close thing don't get me wrong. My income wasn't being spent nearly enough (I was watching GSL whilst playing... probably not a good idea), I was producing maybe 15-20 marines at once, but they just didn't do enough damage to take down all the roaches, I'd lose each fight with maybe 3-4 roaches left. I'm sure if my spending was higher I'd have won. I for some reason have a very hard time against zerg. Think I'm going to go back to step 1 until I have 3/5 games against zerg, feels more like a mental block than anything.

I also experimented the Mass marines vs roach. Pretty efficient once you get Combat shield, not realy before. But never forget, when you can not attack the opponent's army, trap him outside and go for his base while you take expand.
In fact having one unit, make things easier for macro / decision making, but it also incredibly increase your imagination and you can begin using new ways of doing some things (Specialy in low level leagues where traping someone is easy).

True, but I've only got just got to the stage with upgrades

@colonel I'd stick with step 2. Step 1 is fun and all, but once you get to step 2, you really aren't doing yourself any favors by going back. Always up to you of course.

Hey Jak,
Now that we have learned what we have learned about injects, do you think it may reasonable to modify or even remove zerg STEP 0?
|
Definitely not. STEP (and not level) 0 is important for getting the coordination of injecting and spreading creep down before having to do it while in a game.

Ah edited

@feng
Sorry I missed that. I agree that having the information is important and we'll be releasing all of the information and explaining our decisions

Woop got my recent spending to master level hehe. Marauders are fun, getting a better understanding of my gas now. Wish I had time to play more Only four games tonight. Sigh.

keep it up colonel! I'm rooting for you

Do you know why some replays can take like 10 minutes for the stats to calculate? Wondered if it was just volume of server use, or if there was something wrong with my replay. It seems to show me going from 3 bases to 0 bases... which is wrong... replay probably end up corrupt knowing my luck.
Edit: Would appear replay is broken, deleted, re-uploaded 404 error ahaha. God damn it.

We've had some server madness today, please email me the replay to dsjoerg at ggtracker dot com and I'll take a look.

Sorry to bother you so much dsjoerg, but some of the games I've uploaded don't show a spending skill! Just thought it might be bug! http://www.ggtracker.com/players/909269 <- games 17, 18, and 19
When you remove the hijack-match-history function, the spending skill on those games disappeared and never reappeared!
by the way, ggtracker feels awesome now that it doesn't hijack match history! I can safely play a few goofy games once in a while and not screw up my staircase levels!
EDIT: for anyone interested, I have found sticky notes on the bottom of monitor to work wonders for macro! I have the following written, each on a separate sticky note on the bottom of my monitor:
zerg Inject / Ovies Units Creep
terran SCV / Supply Production Mule
protoss Probe / Pylon Production Chrono
I just read them top to bottom and do what it says, I've gotten much better at keeping supply now!
