Hey JaK,
I've been pretty bogged down this month so didn't manage to tune in to the live-stream. Did you end up doing this or did the Overwatch addiction get the better of you? I've been looking for the Twitch VoD to no avail.

Fealthas Tab Function is called "Next Subgroup" There is also "Previous Subgroup" They are in the global section of the in-game Hotkey Editor Bind that shit! Pick something based on the frequency of use and the time sensitivity of use. Sacrifices will have to be made, it's all about priorities, find that fastest key that is less important than this function. Then bump everything down by one key, or find another key for the supplanted function.
TurgidLeafMan As usual, shit comes up whenever I try to plan work on TheCore. I've got about an hour a day to work on videos (part of which are visual aides etc which will help with learning and promotion) So I'm going to get to work on TheCore video and little assets/elements made for the video will get pushed out here and in the OP (if TL ever lets me edit it again...)

So I haven't played since HotS and just fired up SC2 again. Downloaded the latest hotkey files to deal with the new units and such, but it seems that many hotkeys have been changed besides just those concerning new units? I'm not sure what to do about this... e.g. I remember Shift + POJKL; was how I injected hatcheries or something like that, but it seems to be doing something else now.

Hey quarkral,
When new units come out, they disrupt the efficiency of the entire layout. If we only changed the new stuff, the adept would have the slowest key out of all the gateway units despite being one of the most frequently produced. Each new version of TheCore is built as if there were nothing before it. This ensures the absolute most efficient configuration.
However, I always suggest players stick with the version of TheCore that they first learned and make their own modifications for the new units. Switching from a non-core layout to TheCore will give you huge efficiency gains, but updating from 2.0 to 3.0 will be a much smaller gain by comparison.
I hope that answers your question, feel free to follow up and I'll respond as soon as I can.

LTNS I want to know whether TheCore+ is underway or not. Thx for developing.

Guys i have a keyboard with USQwerty layout but i don't have an AltGr button. I tried all the versions of RRM Core 3.0 but they all use Ctrl+Alt. What should i do?
|
hey brook! TheCore+ is not a priority atm, but can be built yourself using the principles I've outlined in past posts.
Datapatata The most likely scenario is: You have the correct file. You are trying to use the add and create control group functions instead of the add/steal and create/steal control group functions. Stick with steal, on the whole, you will see a boost in efficiency and speed.

JaKaTaKSc2/ Thx for answering ^^ I made TheCore+(rrm) for me, but it is not enough. I use it and wait yours. I'm sad that TheCore+ is not a priority atm.

Can anyone who uses Core speak to how effectively it might be implemented for Brood War?
With the announcement of Starcraft: Remastered and a patch adding hotkey remapping I'm looking for a more ergonomic layout (I still have RSI from this game a decade ago lmao) but there is virtually no literature on the subject.

I literally just talked to JakaTaK about this on discord, you should be able to transfer your core hotkeys to sc1 without a huge amount of effort, in fact it may be easier due to less units having abilities. I'm confident a custom setup to the degree that the core uses will be vastly superior to the current hotkeys brood war uses, and any standard sc2 layout.
|
@plan3t, the reason why there is no literature on the subject is because nobody knows. The 1.18 patch is only scheduled to be released at the end of this month, so people will only know then what will be possible in terms of key remapping.
If the hotkey layout is as flexible as SC2, then you will definitely be able to use the same principles as TheCore to create your own layout. Some synergies probably needs to be thought through again though as you will still have the limitation of one building per control group or 16 army units.
No doubt that any hotkey customization will be better than having build probe on P.

I guess that nobody knows so far how this will be implemented inside the game.
Key factors that we now today: – basic command card is 3x3 – how many groups? 10 – how many cameras? 3?
It seems that it requires far less space than the full Starcraft II stuff. Without the Multiple Building Selection, and only few cameras, the full bindkey setting should be optimized around cameras. With the groups limited to 12 units, one should think about a group placement optimized for 1a2a3a4a…
Key factors that could be investigated today: – how effective and meaningful could be the RapidFire within Broodwar UI? (especially groups of casters) – how helpful could it be to use same key for a menu and another command in the next submenu? (example "select larva" same as "spawn drone")
Key factors that we don't know: – will group/cam be accessible for edition or hardcoded ? – will modifiers be accessible for edition? (some may be hardcoded, as an example Shift+#group hardcode to add to a group?) – which modifiers will be allowed? (generally "Alt" and combinations with Alt? "Control+Shift" ?) – will alternates be allowed? or only 1 key per command ? – will the TargetChoose be available for RapidFire?
One will have to go after all tricks implemented in TheCore and see whether they can be implemented and make sense. Broodwar system will probably make some new needs visible, where keybinding trick may help.
Edit: ouch 2 new posts while I was writing

Yea, I got rsi playing bw terran so I'm just going to stick to TheCore or some form of it for the remaster. Btw, how is the keyscore determined (ie. JPOI;L90K/ in decreasing priority)? Or is that a trade secret? Should we treat it as absolute? I just want to update and customize my keys with a fundamental guiding principle in mind.
|
The Key Score determination is the result of a lot of deliberation and testing. IMO it's worth sticking to, but if you really feel a key is mis-scored for your personal hand, make an adjustment
|
Ok, thank you for the response JaKaTaK!
|
I was about to ask the question about the core layout transferring to BW, but it seems like it'll work according to your responses. BTW, Did ctrl shift clicking units to remove or add in hotkeys worked in bw?

I just looked at Brood War 1.18 PTR. It looks pretty much impossible to port The Core approach there. Control groups, camera hotkeys are not customizable. :-(
|
yeah they're not customizable, and I guess trying to create a autohotkey file would be best bet
|
cancel button can't be customizable either, and hotkeys can't even rebind to punctuation keys. You need to do a lot of heavy autohotkey facelift to make it work.
And camera hotkey takes a bit of autohotkey code to map two key presses. for example if you want the original f2 hotkey to execute by pressing right Alt + P (if you use PRM), it's not as simple as writing like ralt&p::f2
and even more inconvenient using autohotkey method is that if you want to chat in game....ur in the risk of typing something weird cuz you remapped keys to other keys already lol.
