Toster already posted this on Blizzard's Remastered forum, maybe if we make some noise and bring this to their attention they might address it. But I agree, their "customizable hotkeys" are pretty limited right now.

Currently learning ZRM 3.0 and so far only the building of the extractor feels a bit awkward. The combination is basic mutation on " ; " followed by the extractor at " [ ". I see on the 2.0 spreadsheet that basic mutation used to be on "J" with the alternative " ; " and it seems likely it was intended to stay in 3.0 as well but got lost perhaps?

After re-adding "J" to the ZergBuild/Drone line and testing it out some it makes a lot of sense when building an extractor or evolution chamber.

They mentioned in the notes to the current version of 1.18PTR that they are iterating on the hotkeys editor. I hope they will have something better soon.

Has anybody made an ahk script/portable keyboard layout setup for Core BW?

Waiting around for Blizzard before starting to play kind of sucks.

There was a grid layout posted somewhere on these forums, but Blizzard has removed the customization options since then. Unless you have already bought it, you're going to have to wait for Blizzard since they have removed the 1.18 PTR.

I wonder if TheCore is really the best thing out there for brood war, or if something better exists. Ahh well, I'm sure we'll see with time.

At the moment, they said there is no custom got key mapping, so probably no, not really.

Thanks. I really hope they just copy SC2 hotkey settings. Everything else would be inconsistent.

I doubt it. The intention around SC:R is to make it better for people to watch and maybe get some attention from a nostalgia point. It is however not an easy to play game because of pathing, mechanics, etc. which is exactly what the competitive Korean scene wants. SC2 is mechanically a much better game, it just doesn't make sense to add functions like add/steal, etc. to a game where you can only hotkey one building in a control group.

I think that most people will probably play the campaign again with the improved graphics and then play a couple of multi-player games, but it is unlikely to have a big uptake. The better graphics will however make it more pleasant for the casual player/viewer to watch and enjoy it as an eSport.

There used to be a program for BW called keycraft, I'm pretty sure it doesn't work anymore.

Hi Jak,
I think there should be a few edits to the original post. For TheCore 3.0 the add/steal is confusing for newcomers because when you go into the hotkey settings "Add to control group" is bound to control-alt, which is near impossible to press with your thumb and it isn't super clear what add/steal is unless you watch your video on it (which isn't linked in the guide).

The tutorial videos are really good quality even though they are slightly outdated, which is why it might be a bit better just to add small notes in text under the embedded videos detailing small keybind tweaks and changes, possibly even organized by race/size/right-left. I personally play zerg and I believe by default (at least on USQuerty 3.0 ZRM, which is probably the average zerg layout) two of the three inject methods don't work with the keys said in the video. I wouldn't mind personally updating the notes. Thanks!

Hey,
I just wanted to try TheCore 3.0. But I am really confused even after watching the videos.
There are no keys binded to set the cameras and there aren't any other free combinations.
(I use the german ZRM)
Using the UK Version had the same problems.

And reading the post above: Where is the link to the video with the explanation for add/steal?

Can someone help me?

I got 20ish games (and a lot of using the hotkey trainer) into the core, and I couldn't figure out what exactly was rubbing me the wrong way, until I realized that when I used my thumb to hit shift/control// like, the bottom right corner-ish area of my thumbnail was really sensitive to being pressed, and that the result is that subconsciously I was always really hesitant/off when using shift (it's generally shift tends to be the key you hold down while queuing stuff up, but it's going from shift to the advanced build menu, to control, etc that makes it hard to control exactly where I'm pressing), and it became apparent through my play via misclicks. The obvious solution is "well don't press in that area ya dingus", but I really found when in a game, and keeping your hand floating but ~around~ the key positions for The Core, it was really really hard to not have this area of my thumb be pressed.

I guess it could be the keys on my keyboard could be too pointy on the edges, idk

if anyone else has had this problem I'd be very interested in what they did!

this is a bummer for me cus I was stoked to dedicate myself to the core, but in lieu of that, I'm going to try out the core lite!

edit: loving the core lite so far, glad I can use one of these hotkey setups that I know has had so much time/hard work being put into them!

So I'm trying to get back into SC2 yet again, and remembered these keys have always felt better despite the learning curve. I decided to play through the HotS campaign first ( since I've played WoL a lot more) and used some old ZRM binds for it. Moved onto LotV and decided to just get All 4 sets of binds just because, and I noticed that between the 3 races and random there are some weird inconsistencies. In some O is a control group, in others it's an ability, in the Random keys Dark Templar have no bind, etc etc. No idea if this has been addressed before, or if it's intended or what. Wanted to try and get a little guidance on the issue.

Just to make sure I'm in the right places too, I'm using the Master Spreadsheet and US qwerty files. I honestly couldn't figure out how to use the Github files.

Edit: yeah this is weird, they don't even all have the same ATTACK key. I get that the 3 races are different but shouldn't there be some consistency at least with the basic attack/build/etc keys!?

The "Race" attached to the 4 versions of TheCore is probably not a good indication. Each of the 4 versions can be used for all 3 races… It seems to be something mainly historical with different guys focusing on different races at the beginning of TheCore project (as far as I understood from BeedeBdoo, who was using a variant of the ZRM v2 with Shift from jump to camera location to play Zerg and Terran)

The recipe to make them is mainly the same, the only big difference is the default placement of groups and command keys. Pick the one whose placement seems to be the most beneficial for you and stick with it… There may be some change as well with Shift used for Create group (T, Z and R in TheCore v2) or for jump to camera location (like P in TheCore v2). Not sure about v3…


Another option: TheCore Lite

You can also have a look at TheCore Lite, which does not need to rotate the keyboard. It is looking for Terran reviewers… The current setup is free of unbounds including Coop as per patch 3.13… Look at my signature to find the last release directly on Github. I've also documented all the design background I collected within TheCore Lite Github's README.md

For TheCore Lite, I kept the Shift for recall camera that helps in queuing commands to send worker back to a base, Ctl+Shift for Create Steal and use Shift+Alt for Create with a trick for easy cloning holding Shift+Alt. This feature I would like to be more largely diffused, and tested, especially by higher level players than me
