TheCore is HotS ready! It's been HotS ready since 0.5!! You do not need a separate version. Just download the file and put it in its proper place and you're ready to go :D

Great job, as always, JaK. I'll have to practice learning the new layout, as always, but after I get it down, hopefully I'll be able to use this winter to get to GM!

If I ever become a progamer, I'll definitely recommend The Core with the highest regards.

0.6 looking good so far.. seems to make a lot more sense having overlord production on the homekeys as opposed to roaches; especially as I'm on step 1 of The Staircase and can't actually build any units that aren't on the homekeys anyway :D
I am terrible at this game!

The only thing I currently dislike with ZRMM is Probe production being on I whereas worker production with every other race is on O. While playing random, this can result in some annoying situations especially as T, as after having played P a few times before, I tend to press I at the beginning and lift my CC . So I don't know if there's any special reason why Chrono is not on I and Probe on O. Otherwise i would suggest putting the Probe on O, for the sake of consistency.

@JaKaTaK

Splendid work on TheCore so far, I have used it for the last few months and it is awesome. Quick question though, I was wondering the reason behind changing tech lab and reactor from "u" and " ' " to "y" and "=" respectively.

Thanks

What layout are you using? It's way easier for Jak to answer these sorts of questions if you tell him which of the layouts you are using.

Its actually impossible for me to answer those sorts of questions if you don't tell me which version you're using. TLM? PRMM?

Did you DL TheCore 0.6? This shouldn't be a problem in 0.6, I'll take a look at it though.

Hello,

I haven't checked The Core for a while now and I'm wondering if among the new changes there is some option or variant for people that can not make hardware alterations.

TheCore still requires tilting your keyboard and pressing ctrl/shift/alt with your thumb (which is made much easier by popping keys out of your keyboard), if that's what you mean. If you're incapable or unwilling to do that, I think your best option is still Chameleon or DarkGrid.

The recent changes to TheCore have all just been further optimization, as well as adding WoL campaign support.

I don't think you have to pop the keys out of your keyboard to use the Core. I didn't and it works just fine for me. Sometimes I"ll push the windows key instead of alt, but in the options you can make that key not do anything so it doesn't matter other than slowing you down a little, but I'm rarely in a super duper hurry to push alt.

I think the only thing that really is REQUIRED to be able to do is turn your keyboard a little... trying to play with the keyboard straight would be near impossible I think

I actually feel kind of silly now because the reasons for that particular change are across the board. Basically, we placed tech lab and reactor on our priority list via data. We collected the average times per game certain actions were carried out and ranked them accordingly. The issue with this, we found, is that when the metagame shifts, these priorities change. So we changed the rules we use to rank the terran production in priority so that units are first, lift/land, add-ons, and other building abilities are 2nd. So tech lab and reactor went down in priority while the units made from buildings with tech labs went up in priority.

Is it possibly to modify TheCore with the in-game hotkey editor? I recall seeing at some point that an external program was used to generate the file because it allowed the use of bindings that are not possible with the in-game editor. If that's the case where can I find this script?

Yes, it is possible to modify TheCore with the in-game hotkey editor. We use a script to generate most of the files b/c there are 48 different layouts, so maintaining/updating all of them manually would just not be possible. Instead, we maintain 4 layouts (PLM, RLM, ZLM, TLM) and have a script that generates the other 44 layouts (by remapping/shifting the keys appropriately). That script (and the latest work-in-progress versions of TheCore) are located here: https://github.com/jonnyhweiss/TheCoreConverter

Hi there, I am ready to make the change from the default key bindings to something more ergonomic. I really feel that my poor hot key set up and limited camera use is holding me back from being a better player.

I see in your OP that you say "if you're a laptop user, you need to use a seperate keyboard to make use of this."

I currently use this MSI GT70 laptop that has a steel series keyboard: http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT70-0NC.html

The keyboard is full sized and specifically designed "with gamers in mind."

I'm curious about the reasoning for why you recommend not using this layout as a laptop user without a seperate keyboard. Is it because you have to tilt the keyboard off to the left side? Or is it just because most laptop keyboards are smaller/more limited.

My gaming space in my home doesn't really fit another another keyboard...assuming that I use my laptop keyboard only, does anyone have any recommendations for me? Should I use this setup? Or perhaps should I try a different one?

Your response is much appreciated and so is your efforts in making this layout so comprehensive.

Cheers,

Ramone

PS: I've read a fair bit of this thread looking for this answer, but after posting this I'll continue sifting through as I'm sure other people must've asked similar questions

@Ramone
Yes, laptop keyboards are not recommended because of the keyboard tilt. You'll have to play with your entire laptop tilted or with your wrist awkwardly rotated if you want to use TheCore on your laptop.

For someone in your situation, I think you should try either Chameleon (Jak's other layout) or DarkGrid (Foxy's other layout), as both are far superior to standard, although they are not at the same level as TheCore in terms of optimization.
