You probably need to out colossus your opponent. There are a few other things you can do such as getting a stargate and void rays to counter your opponent but it's a bit risky if it's scouted. Making 2 robos is possible but it's kind of risky if your opponent goes for an earlier attack with 1 robo and more gateways.

The reason it won't work is because you are commiting to a very aggressive low economy build and then expanding. It's like trying to merge two vastly different strategies into one.

Lol stop editing. The expand kiwi etc are doing is good aggression against fast 3 base zergs but it's not as effective against 2 base strategies as they will generally have an easier time defending. If you got only zealots against roaches you are screwed. I think that's why you get the forge.

In order to support double 10 gate, you need to cut way too many probes, so your economy will not be strong enough for any followup. You're basically all-in with this build, so you might as well proxy the gates.

Unless you eventually get a forge, you're too vulnerable to speedlings, 1 base roach aggression, or 2 base roach aggression. You also cannot hold any early pool builds.

On to my question...does anyone have any replays of the phoenix/immortal pvp builds that have been mentioned in one of the last State of the Game?
ModeratorProtoss all-ins are like a wok. You can throw whatever you want in there and it will turn out alright.

Blink and archons if we are talking about units. I suggest you get blink and play from there, getting archons and maybe even cannons on 2 bases.

So are there any guides on the robo-stargate play in PvP? Or is it not quite "figured out" (I've been seeing it on protoss streams lately). I tried it and it was a lot of fun, but I lost because I don't think I did it right.

yeah it starts as a 2gate robo -> 3rd gate. you defend with primarily zealots, a few sentries, and maybe a couple stalkers, and start immortals, after the 6min timing you can add stargate and start making phoenix, you should push out when you have ~4, don't stop making immortals and zealots.

basically its not about killing stuff with the phoenix, its about just lifting and getting units out of battle, when they drop they will drop onto a pool of zealots/sentries/immortals.
its really quite nice to use the phoenix in this fashion.

I checked the replay.

You moved out WAY too early. What I feel is a better choice is dropping a second forge and getting armor+weapons at the same time. Double forge will let Terran outmacro you, but the idea is that you will be far ahead of him in upgrades that you should at least destroy a significant part of his army if not outright win the engagement.

Keep in mind that with double forge, your army will definitely more powerful when maxed vs a Terran maxed.

I dont quite agree with you suggesting double forge. Maybe its just me but everytime i try double forge terran just goes for no upgrades and kills me with a huge 0/0 or 1/0 ball before my 2/2 upgrades kick in. Do you know something that might keep me alive?
Moreover i was just shocked how he outmacroed me, am I doing something wrong with my macro?


What I usually do is DT expand. If not scouted, Terran cannot leave his base until Raven. This buys you enough time to get more units.

In addition, Sentrys+Zealot are the best way to hold off a push like that. Your replay is a perfect example. Terran isn't going to dare march up that ramp, or you will split his army so hard.

anyone willing to critique my play? i just played a custom game and would like some tips as to why i lost!

edit: its a pvp on mlg shakuras!

i opened 2 gate stalker but he gas steals me, then i get up to 4 gates to play it safe. after i see hes not attacking me i move out and scout for proxies while getting robo then twilight for blink and archons. all the while he is running off of just 2 gates and a robo and expands much much faster than me.

i also get out a warp prism and do some zealot harass in his mineral line but he is already up to a couple colossus and my natural is just barely getting up. i try and do multipronged attacks but control pretty poorly and pull back. he catches me in the middle and i lose the engagement badly and then he just overwhelms me at my ramp.

i think my blind 4 gates put me way behind and i didnt realize how greedy he was playing until i saw multiple colossus with my blink into the main. i probably could have done more damage with that harass especially when combined with the warp prism, but that kind of multitasking is a bit much for my level right now.

thoughts? any advice is appreciated, thanks in advanced

i cannot beat mass mutas. it seems absolutely IMPOSSIBLE. the only way I can beat a zerg that is doing this strat is if i can kill him before all his spine crawlers are up. other than that..... its over once the mutas just run around.

if i sit in my base, he will have a CRAP TON of bases and just make whatever he wants to OWN my army.

if i go attack, he rapes my base and expansions with mutas.

i feel so lost. it is so stupid. all zerg has to do is spam spine crawlers and mass muta = win v protoss. please somebody, help.
