Hey TL!

If an admin can move this thread to TL Blog section or renamed The Protoss Guidebook to stay in the Strat thread.. ty

I've written a list to of things to focus on during the ladder break. I was just hoping that the TL community could help me out.

First i will tell you a little about myself.
I'm a top 8 Diamond player on the NA server.. I have been floating around there since before masters was even a league. I broke my wrist before the release of masters league so it kind of held me back, also work was getting in the way. I've finally gotten the perfect work schedule so i'm able to spend more time on SC2 and i want to actually make it into Masters league..

I wrote down the following things I want to improve on and will be adding notes as i go along my training sessions.

My Protoss Notebook

Solid build orders ( Timings, Mechanics )


**PvZ**


Early game PvZ Timings ( Roach all-in, Speedling all-in, Expo first etc)

- Gas 1st, pool then quick 6 lings (Not quite sure the name of this build atm)
+ Show Spoiler +

All timings are averages over multiple games

Gas 0:1:43.50
Pool Start 0:2:18.75
Pool Finish 0:3:19.75
4/6 Lings completed 0:3:35.50
Expansion 0:4:18.75


PvZ Mid / Late Game

- Double Archon Immortal-Blink
Going to be testing this out.(Ty 2 CecilSunkure for writing the guide, it can be found here)
  • So far with this build the only thing I'm having a hard time against is Roach Speedling all in
  • This would be fixed with better sim-city and forcefield placements


**PvT**


- Multiple Observers / Pylon spread around the map for more vision against drop play

Early game PvT Timings ( 2Rax, 3Rax, 1 Rax Expo, 1-1-1 etc)

PvT Mid / Late Game

- 1 Gate FE to 3 Gate Robo followed by Twilight Council and High templar
  • Main Army Composition : HT's w/Storm , Chargelots , Archons, Sentry's
  • Try to deny 3rd for as long as possible
  • Harass with warp prism while applying real or fake pressure elsewhere
  • Drop the 1st forge when you have secured your natural expansion ( +1 Armor ),
  • Drop the 2nd forge when you have secured your 3rd base
  • Try to spread the terran army with drops and try to catch his army out of position


Micro

**Forcefielding**
- Instead of focusing so much on splitting the army in half, Use forcefields to keep enemies out of attack range of your army and try to funnel them into a small choke ( Pretty much all terran/ Zerg roaches & hydra )

**Army splitting**
- Try to keep senterys spread evenly withen the army to maximize guardian shield.
- Protoss deathball can be covered by 1-2 Guardian shields( Anymore after that is a waste) .

Stalkers w/o Blink

- If you manage to scout a Terran pushing out with scv's/marines. Use stalkers to pick off as many units as possible. ( They can attack and retreat without taking to much damage )

Stalkers w/ Blink

- When engaging an army, the most efficient use is to blink away right before or as shields are down.


Macro

**Chronoboost**
- Use chronoboosts wisely ( Don't overlap, only chronoboost what you need when you need it )
- Don't let energy build up. ( More probes never hurt.... usually )
- Use the mini-map to Chronoboost production if you are applying pressure or just far from your main base ( Much easier to use if you build your gateways close together )

**Expansions**
- If able, transfer as many probes as mineral patches at your new expo
- Unless doing a specific build or under pressure, attempt to expand every 5-6 minutes

Extra Notes

- At the moment it looks like warp prisms are becoming very important mid/late game in all matches

Any tips or good advice on these things or how to go about training for this please let me know and I will add it to the OP.

I will be watching a TON of replays just to get some of the timings down.. I will add links to the ones that help me the most.

Hopefully I will have this all completed by Oct 24th and be in masters soon after

This is probably more blog like content, but I would add something about observers. You need more usage! Trust me

Observers are vital in all match ups! Its important to note that keeping them alive is important and if they are lost not to be afraid of replacing it. It is far too often that I see an ob go down, and the protoss starts to fight blind.

probably more blog related, but something that I may well use, ive also been stuck in diamond since release, having a fiancee etc working full time and also doing a open university course in my spare time. Partners moved to Cardiff for work so I have around a month or two till I join here, so have some serious time to play after I finish work, some fo your idea are great and I may use them for my own benefit!!

nice incentive, its always good to see players actively thinking about their improvement.

i think you should add what type of style you are hoping to play in both match-ups. what is your philosophy as a protoss against terran and zerg?

i can see that you wanna do early macro style against terran, but how are you gonna follow up? opening 1 gate FE into 3 gate robo is too general and does not focus on the strategic aspect of the matchup. do you intend to do little bits of damage here and there (drops, DTs, blink stalkers...) or do you plan to turtle up and go for the throat? maybe you want to bait him into a bad engagement and then go for the big counter. what is going to be your killing blow and how are you going to prevent him from dealing his killing blow?

on another note, how do you plan to incorporate upgrades into your play (including blink/charge)? do you want go for big attacks before upgrades or do you want to rush upgrades for a similarly strong, but faster attack?

just my thoughts, gl and hf
