Due to moving and such, I haven't been able to play since well before the latest patch. What are some good ways to apply some early pressure to zerg with the new queen range? Before a zealot and stalker could do ok, and a 4gate after FFE wasn't bad either. I feel like now early pressure is way too much of an investment unless you are all in. Again, no experience on the new patch, I just don't want to start playing this week and not know what to do.

Yeah but sometimes microing ur main army is the only way to survive and win the game. imagine a bunch of sentries and zealots come rushing onto ur zealots and more focus stalker army with blink . while this is happening , u are being harras by a VR and 2 phoenix . this is something hard to win . i eventually get so fed up and quit after losing my main army .

The same strategies still do work to the same extend you just need better micro. The only thing that has changed for the PvZ match up is the a lot of protoss that are high level are looking for a fast third base builds like 1robo 4 gate expand for example. ( btw I get hallucination with my fast 3rd base build looks good so far )

http://www.twitch.tv/skyblaze93/b/320352709 video of me breaking down your replay
the basic build order for toss i mention a few times in the video.
9pylon 12gate 14gas 15pylon 16core 18 zealot ~if teching up 20 gas
from there do what you want. for more detail builds just search around on this section of the forum and you;ll find a lot.

Any thoughts on this hotkey setup?
Ctrl groups: 1-units 2-units 3-units 4-misc units (obs, templar, warp prisms, etc) q-robo a-stargate `-nexii
Camera: tab-forward pylon f1-base f2-natural f3-3rd or misc
Other changes: r-attack r-build immortal s-build assimilator r-armor upgrades alt instead of ctrl to make groups
Things I like: 1R and `E (attack and make probes) are the same hand movement. R,T,F, and G make up nearly all protoss battle micro...and they're all right in the same spot. I can hit them all with my index finger. Tab+W makes for quick warpins.

Whenever i go 4gate +1 zealot in pvz i feel like my extra gates are always reaally damn slow, and i get to warp in closer to 8.00 than 7.30 like it should be. I would like a high level player to take a look at a replay of mine and give me tips on how to get the build done faster, i am kinda lost on it. Thanks!

Well first of all if you want a 7:30 warpin you need your gates started at 6:15 (65 build time 10 transform time). You were pretty close to that, and in general it comes down to a lot of small things if you want the 7:30 time (I commonly see 8:00 warpins on stream so don't feel terrible about it).
At 6:15, you have 40 minerals, 200 floating gas, 1 stalker in production, 34/44 supply and a pylon just started. If you don't make the two extra pylons so you are 34/36, that's 240 minerals. Make a sentry instead of a stalker and you have 315. Mine gas slower (2x2 maybe?) and you get close to 400. Obviously there are downsides to almost all these changes (exception being the 2nd extra pylon at /44, there's no reason to make that): less gas -> tech slower, sentry instead of stalker = less pressure, no /36 pylon means longer probe cut. But if you want a 7:30 warpin those are the things I noticed.

Don't wall off unless you have to. You create an artificial choke making it very easy to contain you, or to pick off buildings close to the edge. Wall against Z, but never against T.

The wall off is only necessary if you are versing a melee opponent (zerglings or zealots). In a PvP example, it would be if you suspect your opponent is doing a proxy 2 gate and you need to buy time for a cannon to come in, or simply provide a better concave. Or if your protoss opponent is cannon rushing you, and you need to deny probe access to your main base.

when you mean Big maps I'm going to assume TDA (tal'derm alter) and entombed valley. On maps like this it's standard to send 2 probes out to scout. 1 probe on 9 when the build in built and another probe on 13 forge. send probes to the opposite direction of the bases (for example one probe clockwise, the other counter-clockwise.), you should find any 6pool and be safe but lose a bit of mining time. should have plenty of time to place a pylon in the main mineral line or even wall of the natural base completely depending on how far away he is from you.

Does anyone recall mr Bitter's 12 weeks with the pros?
I'm looking for something akin to that, to further improve myself. Facing platinum and diamond players dropped to gold a while back due to a stressfull period in which I wasn't mentally able to play at my own lvl (mid to high platinum).
Any advice on vods too learn from? I'm protoss mostly having trouble with the volatility of the pvp match up. PvT is my best matchup have won 7 games straight. PvZ depends on my opponents build mixed succes.

Particularly interested in when people scout, when they block the Z's hatch, and especially how you stay safe against 6 pool on big 4p maps. Mine seems to die to early pools as a standard transition...
14 forge (allows me to scout on 9 and not cut any probes), 17 nexus/gate/cannon/pylon, mostly because Alej says he does the same thing. This forces me to cut a little bit of econ but i can get a really fast cyber core so i'm fine with the trade. I don't really try to block z's hatch mostly because i feel like it screws up my timings a bit and i don't feel comfortable with that. Vs early pools ill get a 17 pylon before anything else in my main if i haven't scouted him on the first or second spawn and if i see a fast pool i get a cannon up in my main.
For PvP, http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=325480. In addition, sometimes pro's stream their coaching lessons, try checking out Incontrol's and Minigun's coaching vods.

Thanks, that's more or less what I'd decided was the best course of action, although I was scouting after forge instead of pylon. I also tend to make my cannon on the low ground every so often thinking this time I'll be able to hold it, easy. Hasn't worked yet.

I also get countered when i make a big push . I have some units at my base to defend the harrassment . But i find it very difficult to micro my big push and also at my base . Any tips for us beginners who needs help in multi task ? ^.^ Most of the time you don't need to micro your main army very much. I know it's hard, but try a-moving your main army (in a suitable location for your composition) and instead focus on defending the counter. Yeah but sometimes microing ur main army is the only way to survive and win the game. imagine a bunch of sentries and zealots come rushing onto ur zealots and more focus stalker army with blink . while this is happening , u are being harras by a VR and 2 phoenix . this is something hard to win . i eventually get so fed up and quit after losing my main army . please post some Replays if you want more than general answers, and more in depth analysis of the situation. if not, don't post please. :D please use these rules even in here for a general idea how ppl will react to you post if asking for help and answering questions, and this is also useful in real life as well please keep that in mind. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=338554On June 04 2012 22:47 ThirdDegree wrote: Due to moving and such, I haven't been able to play since well before the latest patch. The same strategies still do work to the same extend you just need better micro. The only thing that has changed for the PvZ match up is the a lot of protoss that are high level are looking for a fast third base builds like 1robo 4 gate expand for example. ( btw I get hallucination with my fast 3rd base build looks good so far ) http://drop.sc/191398 Well let me just say that this was the last game i played after losing like 4/5 times in a row and i just went "Ahh screw this game and just gg. i would like to ask , is there anything else i can do ? I am a bronze player tho. started started few weeks agoo. appreciate some help. ^^ http://www.twitch.tv/skyblaze93/b/320352709 video of me breaking down your replay the basic build order for toss i mention a few times in the video. 9pylon 12gate 14gas 15pylon 16core 18 zealot ~if teching up 20 gas from there do what you want. for more detail builds just search around on this section of the forum and you;ll find a lot. Wow man , thanks alot ^.^ . Didnt know i have so much to improve on. Few things i wanna mention was ; 1. I did a wall off cause i trusted him to go terran . lol big mistake.i usually go wall off for zerg and terran so that no marine or ling can enter when my zealot is there . And i didnt thought of the "cannon" thingy which u mention . You mention that if they make too much cannon , they are far behind in economy . Didnt thought of that. Genius ! And im in SEA . And in bronze f.y.i . once again , thanks man . appreciate it alot :D Don't wall off unless you have to. You create an artificial choke making it very easy to contain you, or to pick off buildings close to the edge. Wall against Z, but never against T. oh wow okay. thanks. so if im against P or T , i build pylon near my nexus istead of the ramp ?
I actually build it a bit further out in order to provide vision of cannon and bunker rushes. The only time I wall off against anything but zerg is against a very early marine-SCV allin, in which case I cancel my nexus and throw down a wall of pylons instead. I never wall against proxy gates, I just chrono stalkers. Choking yourself is just a really big weakness that hurts yourself more than the opponent, and on maps where it's possible I wall off my mineral line instead of my ramp against zerg (unless i FFE of course). Where to place the initial pylon is up to you; it's better protected and you lose less mining time at the nexus, but you get better vision if you place it closer to the ramp.
