Thanks a lot everyone much love Gorship I think 3 gate robo is an excellent safe build that can really force you to spend your minerals effectively. If you eventually tech to collossus it is very strong and isn't as micro intensive as say High Templar. If you really wanna push yourself, look up some replays and see what the pros do with a 3-gate robo (btw, there is a wonderful Day9 daily about the 3 gate robo opening.) If you are still having a hard time of spending your money, you can throw down an additional gateway until your mechanics have improved to get out another unit. Best of luck!!! glhf!
thanks man! i did see the day9 episode you speak of. it was in reference to zerg though, but i do agree it does feel like a PvX style build. im thinking of studying whitera a bit, i love his style and his calm attitude. "mass roaches, no problem, war prism".
3gate robo, drops and by 13mins try and have some DT's out maybe... hrm.

Hey Gorship,
Once I hit silver, I started developing a build for each race I played. I dont suggest you do the same build for everyone. If you are struggling with macro mechanics and want to stay on one base & not expand fast--- remember: 1 Base builds are only good if you send units early and pressure hard. In the later leagues, it boils down to most people expanding fast, and for a good player to stay on one base meant he is preparing a strong early attack, so don't bunker down on one base & do nothing.
I suggest PvP you learn the 4gate rush. You will win a lot of games and it is a great build for early players to learn macro, timings, and unit control. You can actually do this build vs Terran and Z as well and you'd probably will a lot up until gold. IF you want to learn 1 good 1base build for every race do this one. The build is a very strong 1 base gateway rush.
If you don't want to 4gate PvP, I prefer 2 gate robo gate instead of 3 gate robo, but you will likely lose a lot to 4gates until you learn how to hold them.
PvT - 3 Gate Robo is a strong 1 base build. Don't forget, if he has a lot of mauraders go for more zealots, and for marines use zealots too but add in extra stalkers since they do well vs marines. Send some pressure before stim comes & be sure to add a few sentries & learn to cup him in with 3 forcefields shaped like a V-- the point behind him and his troops inside of the mouth. The 3 FF V shape doesn't allow MM to retreat so zealots whale.
PvZ - Most players find it necessary to expand vs Zerg, so if you 1 base it you really need to all in him. If you 4gate, hide the gates somewhere and build a quick sentry or stalker to kill overlords before they can scout your 4gate. Next, send zealot & stalker on "cleanup duty" to kill zerglings on the way to his base so he doesn't see you pushing out. The attack is best done with a proxy pylon near his base and a zealot heavy army with several stalkers & a sentry or two.

Hi,
Not strat related, but cannot find anywhere else.
The backspace hotkey, (flipping/jumping between your CCs, hatches or nexus buildings).
Where do i find it under the Hot keys section ingame? I want to change this. Thanks in advance.

Sometimes i have a few stalkers, zealots and sentrys on one hotkey. The i press "F" and nothing happens, why?
Sentrys are first in the control group with no other casters in it.

How do you leave a match quickly. Often times when I watch pro streams they'll type, "GG," press F10 to pull up the menu and the it seems like they're pressing another button to leave the match quickly. The mouse doesn't seem to scroll over the "View Score Screen" option. Thanks in advance.

Assumiung you have not changed your hot keys and DON'T have HT in your control group (HT would be first instead of sentries). Pressing F should bring up the FF spell, F click to use it.
If this does not work then check your hot keys, make sure sentries are the first in your group

Are you able to reproduce this at will, or does it only happen in times of stress?
It sounds to me like you might be accidentally hitting tab (cycles through your units), missing the F key, or some other relatively simple mistake that is easy to miss when you're in a battle.

Hey folks, sorry if I post this in the wrong section.. But I have just a little question...
I'm searching for a simple Protoss BO which I can play in Silver / Gold League in all MUs.. Like the 3-Rax BO as Terran. Is there a BO ( maybe 3 Gate Robo ? ) that I can play in all MUs just to stabilize my mechanics and macro and so on ?
|
Typically I do 1-rax gasless FE against Protoss and in 75% of those games they all-in me.
So how do you tell the difference between a one-base Colossus all-in or an Immortal/Zealot all in? I scouted 2 gas, 3 gate/robo, no expo and not many troops.
I guessed he was going fast Colossus so I went Vikings and lost the game. Other times I assumed gateways units/immortals and made mass bunkers with marine/maurader and he shows up with Colossus and I lost the game.
So how do you which all-in that is coming?

What is with the recent trend of zergs going with tons of queens as a main part of their army comps? Seems to be happening quite a bit on the higher end streams
|
@The dude before me: I've always loved queens when paired with Ultras or Broodlords. As Day[9] described it in his Funday Monday a few months back, it's like having 10 medivacs healing 2 marauders. Can you imagine how strong that would be? They would be so hard to kill. Think of it this way, 1 fully charged queen has 8 transfuses, 125 health, that's 1000 health. If you have 8 queens, that's 8000 health. That's a stupid amount of health! Why make more broodlords when you can just keep the ones you have alive the whole time for just 16 supply? Queens also have long range strong AA and give you TONS of creep spread. They take no bonus damage from any unit as they are neither armored, light, or massive (hellions and tanks do the least damage to them). One other thing: if EMP of feedbacked, since it only takes 25 energy to transfuse, they'll be ready to heal your army again shortly. If the enemy doesn't EMP and feedback all of them, they might as well have EMP and feedback none of them.
They have their problems, are a bit of a micro challenge, but Queens are crazy strong.
A special note: range attack ups upgrade queen Anti-Air and queen Anti-Ground attacks. Melee is not required.
The eye-opening funday monday: CatZ does Funday Monday - Mass Queen

How do you defend a spine rush as Zerg when going 14 g 14 p?
|
If you see it coming, take guys off gas. Save larva (as you should be doing) for when the pool pops. Pull most to all of your workers when he shows up. His goal is to delay you hitting his spines: set at least a few drones to just attack the growing spines, while the rest keep the zerglings back. Get as many hits on the spines as you can. Make lings and a crawler the moment your pool pops. If you're dominating him, get a queen instead of a crawler -- both if you have the money. Make sure to hotkey your workers and use hold position on the drones getting hurt when fighting his drones/lings.
That should do it! I haven't lost to a spinecrawler rush in a long time. It's mostly a micro battle once you get those fundamentals. Note: I'm only plat, so a few may know better.
How many game loops does SCII do a second, 16 or 32? I can't remember.

On November 29 2011 10:52 RonaldTimmins wrote: How do you defend a spine rush as Zerg when going 14 g 14 p? Depends on their opening. One nessessary thing though; pull drones off gas if you suspect that you cannot hold it without them.
I'll briefly discuss 2 types of spine rushes on ladder. The 6 pool one, and the 10 pool one (base the ones in between as just a little more time for you). The 10 pool one, you almost autowin if you scout it. Just drop your own spine as soon as your pool finishes. Save 3 larva for lings when your pool pops. You just won if they commit heavily.
The 6 pool one is a little trickier. Same deal; get a spine ASAP. Pull drones off gas ASAP (you are going to need mins). Keep your drones on the line for as long as possible. If they attack from one side, pull all of your drones to the other. If you haven't scouted it, you are going to have to micro a lot. Get a queen (and inject immediately), and as many lings as you can. Let your hatch tank for as long as possible. Push with all of your units at once (including your spine). Get the surround with drones, because they can float back through without taking damage. When you get your spine in place, they should have lost most of their lings by now. Use your lings and queen and spine to kill their spine.
Note: if their spine is not in range of anything important, just let it be. When it moves up, focus it with everything. Note2: If they plant their spine before any lings get to your base, attack it with 3-4 drones. That isn't overcommiting, and it does a fair amount of damage (even killing it sometimes) before the spine gets up. This relies a lot on micro, but generally you can pull far ahead.

I know that scouting is key to zerg (or for that matter any race), but is there any other method of scouting for zerg OTHER THAN overseers, overlords, and stray zerglings?
