Hey guys just wondering if anyone was watching the GSL last night and saw the JulyZerg early hatch that was cancelled and made into a baneling nest and just shattered his opponent.

Anyway if anyone knows the build order/how many zerglings and banelings you should get could you post it here?

Thanks.

zerg is (supposed to be) an adaptive race. learn how to exploit the opponent and use that whenever u see an opening.

I find it a little strange that 83% of your posts are in this thread, and half are whines about people aren't answering your question after a mere 10 minutes.

I think we can expect you to last here for a long time.

I wonder why he built it at his natural instead of just putting it down in his main? Was he expecting the terran to scan or something?

As far as I can tell the bust would've worked even if he had set it down in his main. I guess he put it in his nat because.. he's a funny guy. Watching too much Catz.

@justindab0mb I think the purpose of placing it in the natural was so that if the terran opponent were to scout the natural he would feel safer about the next few minutes of the game. He wasn't expecting a baneling bust knocking on his door just moments later.

Its not really JulyZergs strat to be honest I first saw it months back on the GOM teamleague (which I don't think there are any vods up for, or are there?)

I'm pretty sure he put it in his main because Terran usually scans the Zerg main to see tech buildings. If the T had seen it he could have floated the factory over to block.

That would have been pretty early for a scan, no? July wouldn't have a lair out or anything at that timing, I don't think. Maybe I'm wrong.

The banneling bust :

Get gas - pool

Fake hatch expo, cancel

make a banneling nest

have 16 zerglings when your nest finishes
  • Step 1 : make 6 blings
  • Step 2 : Destroy the supply depots
  • Step 3 : run in with your 10 zerglings
  • Step 4 : rally zergling to oppenent
  • Step 5 : kill him

Did this help you? Made it to mirror the quality of the OP's thread. Enjoy.

Ok I'm going to have a serious response in this post....

Artosis and Tasteless went crazy over what July was doing. But I was a little confused as to what was so radical about July's build. From my understanding, the terran saw his expo, therefore thought that was what July was doing. But instead July cancelled the hatch, and put down a baneling nest. July put the baneling nest down exactly where the hatch was (using the hatch, cancel trick)

Did it matter that July placed the baneling nest where the hatch was, in order to trick future scouting operations into thinking the baneling nest was still a hatch. Or was it just the fact that July knew the terran saw his initial hatch so the terran wouldn't expect aggression that early?

I don't really understand the advantage either, Slush did the same thing with a baneling nest hidden elsewhere on the map before which seems to make sense, but if that scv opts not to leave, and proxy bunkers are pretty damn common on Delta, that if the Terran player sees its a baneling nest they just fortify their wall and its gg?

The trick is that as soon as terran sees the expo go down they assume they're safe from a 1base baneling bust, and there's probably 5 or so minutes before a Kyrix-style bust is possible. Cancelling the hatchery and putting the banelings nest there protects against scans in the main, and it also protects against a terran player who might pop back in but not click on the morphing building.

What happens is that the baneling bust occurs far before the terran player would be prepared for it. If the Zerg player doesn't expand, that's a tell to the Terran that something is up.

Not really anything special, been done alot. Just that it was probably the first time it was executed live on the big big tournament. Its not really any build order that is specific. He probably just decided to go along with a bust because he figured his opponent would fell safe knowing that he would have an expansion when he really canceled it and made a hidden banelings nest. He probably considered that "if my opponent scout me at this time, i will bust him."

High probability that it might get closed again and your probably the same guy as before. Just wanted to warn you.

you need to be really careful and use your lings to stop SCV's coming back... all terran players should hide an SCV somewhere so he can take a peek at the 'baneling' timing.

if terran spots the baneling nest he'll just make hellions, bunker CC and instant win.

another thing is that by putting the baneling nest at nat means even if the terran scans his main and see nothing, will automatically assumes that he expanded making him feel safer. Therefore this is a good strat.

I'm 100% sure I've seen this in a tournament before (hatch cancel trick bling bust)

It was on Steppes of war and the Zerg was on the south position, It was some no-name decent player, I don't remember who unfortunately.

So yeah its a cute play but it has been done before

yes there is an advantage to building the bling nest at the nat, it's that he doesn't have to run back to build on creep or waste a different drone and losing saturation. He keeps his saturation at his main while using a drone that was already going to make a building, simple time management.

Yes this is radical, but it's not new. It's faking your opponent out while building a blingnest and wasting zero travel distance time. What your opponent sees is a common speedling expand build, but that's wrong. The scouting scv is not going to scout there again because it will surely be lost because for all your opponent knows, getting gas before pool means speed. There is no chance in hell the terran is gonna scan your natural while it's hatching (because that's what he assumes due to your trickery). This is why this build was so shocking being seen on GSL because of how well thought out it was.

It was ST_Max who did this build the first on GOM TV in steppes of war. It was the team tournament between gsl 1 and gsl 2. Tastosis didn't comment this tournament that's why they were so pumped.

I didn't see the game, but did he cancel the hatch and use its leftover ooze to place a proxy baneling nest?

I think its funny how tastosis make fun of "nerds that say players are garbage for doing things like 6 pool, but when someone like SlayersBoxer cheese's they're so amazing and creative". They acted like a baneling bust with a slight trick (which may or may not of actually helped) was some god-like strategy just because it was JulyZerg doing it.

Tasteless had no idea you can do this, I'm pretty sure. He didn't even know about the evo chamber rush. That's his excuse.

There was nothing special about this. It was a baneling bust and nothing more.

Terran didn't even scout so regardless of the baneling nest being in the main or out at the expo he didn't see it comming and he was teching hard from the begining so it made it seem alot more devestating that a safer more conventional terran opener would have been.
