Hi,

I'd like to know:

1. Wich are the best terran units to counter the roach.

2. If a zerg player arrive at the terran base with 11 roach around 8'.00''. What is the best answare that a terran player can do in that time? Also to get advantage of this situation and maybe win the game?

Marauders are the units you want to be making. Not only are they the best unit to counter a roach save something like a banshee, but they come out very early so that they will be able to stop roaches as early as 8 minutes.

If you scout a zerg staying on one-base, make a bunker and get some marauders. Then, after you hold off their attack, eventually push them back with marauders and marines.

Technically to answer Q1: best unit vs roach = banshee. Not always available early on depending on your B.O But it terms of "BEST" Banshee > Marauder vs roach

Tanks eat roaches in a way that mauraders get wet dreams of.

Try doing a FE marine/tank build.

0 gas, then go double rax, then go double gas once you've started your command center. You'll be able to get tanks (even siege if you desire) in time. And if not you'll have ethier a) enough marines to handle them. b) a bunker in place to deter the roaches from comming in.

Best way to handle this is to make sure you're scouting nice and good, if there are watch-towers you need units at them (1 dead marine > seeing an incomming attack always and forever) and if you do scout a roach warren or something to suggest an early attack (1 base, banelings nest, etc etc) then bunker up. It's 100% free if you made a mistake and you'll be kicking yourself if a bunker could have turned the tide.

Not sure to understand... If you want to show ur strategy then post another thread, we're talking about what's best units to counter roach. Not a strategy to have tank and expand at 8'00.
I'm not sure he's diamond, so why would you suggest a strategy that he'll eventually figure out once he becomes good ?
Sorry if i've been a little harsh.

But yeah to op : marauders and later tanks are your best choice. If not maybe a bunker with marines if you didn't want to make a tech lab (happen often lately on most tvz games, especially at early stages).

In game, click the help menu; click zerg units; click on the roach; bottom right it says "countered by" and you should see a little picture of a marauder.

Furthermore, roaches can't shoot up so anything that is "up" and can shoot down would be considered a counter.

If off creep; learning how to kite would help a lot

Edit: learning how to kite helps anyway but the speed bonus on creep makes it more micro intensive

It's not a problem to me to win vs a rush roach. I just want to know wich is the best way.

Usually I don't like to use marauder and tank vs zerg.

And I don't like to use banelings vs terran but I'm obviously gonna if he goes loads of barracks. If you're really 2k diamond, you should probably know that you can't just pick any build order you want regardless of your opponent. If Zerg goes mass roach, you need marauders, whether you like it or not.

Yet you need to ask what counters roaches as terran.

Could it be Marauders, with their 20 damage vs armoured? If you got to 2000 diamond without knowing about what unit counters what I think it says a lot about the terran race right now. Either that or you're an idiot who just wanted to make a topic to feel important.

To me banshee are better vs roach, then marauder.
Beacuse banshee can't be reach by roach, and are more usefull in a tvz game.
I don't like to use marauder and tank vs zerg 'cause of mutalisk harass.

Maybe the best answare is to use marine and banshee.

I think it is pretty scary to invest in a lot of banshees with mutas on the park. Yes marines can shoot up but banshees are pretty expensive units that cant defend themselves in the air..

Tanks are friggin horrible vs roaches unless you are in a fortified position and he a moves to you.

Early on you definitely want marauders, but once you get all the good upgrades marines with medivacs will easily be able to stand up against them, unupgraded marines lose like 4:1 however.

What the? 11 Roaches at 8 minutes? Is this a joke question or something? At 8 minutes you should have about 35~ SCVs and like 30+ supply of army units, like 24 Marines and a few tanks and you should hold super easily.

Answer #1: MaRAWders

Answer #2: Macro well with a good build order. best would be like 20 Marauders with conc and stim, you won't lose an unit.

EDIT: If you really are 2000 diamond there's some huge inflation or this is some kind of a fishing thread

1. Banshees, and not only because roaches can't fight back. The banshees will stack over your army, thus maintaining dps.

2. I play 1/1/1 (single gas) expand (2nd gas after). This allows me to produce a banshee right as the starport finishes which can fend off roaches.

Tanks. No other answer. Having 2fac tanks in macrogame shuts off most of the good options for zerg, roaches specially. It's funny to see terran mass marauders and then whine when he gets beaten by ling/roach/bling. Marauders do decent vs roaches, but since fights aren't pure roach v pure marauder, there's rarely ever sense in going marauders over tanks.

tanks own roaches...

i can remember multiple games where i've won huge battles vs roaches and my tanks have like 20 kills each.. in one game i remember a tank having 35 kills.

Tanks are great against roaches. Marauders with concussion shells and stim are also great against roaches. Obviously you'd want to be going marauder before tank though. Similarly banshee's are also good against roaches beacuse obviously they can't attack back and they deal a large amount of damage.

Bunkers with marauders and mass repair. You tech to Banshees and win if Z is still on one base.

Tanks cost 5x as much gas as roaches and don't really live up to their cost unless you intend to abuse some ledges.

If the map isn't delta quadrant or lost temple I'd just use marauders.

If you see roaches in a xel naga or just a lucky SCV build bunkers 2 or 3 and just turtle if his attack kills like nothing, counter push

You may be thinking about the game wrong.

Don't think about what you can do to stop the attack from that point forward. Think about what you could have done instead up to that point to make the attack ineffective.

If you're in the enemy's face a lot, they'll be making a lot of units instead of drones and that attack you're talking about will either never come at all, or end up much weaker.

Marauders are the best answer at the 8 minute mark to decimate the roaches. Conc shell or without.

Also Marines with shield upgrade and stim clean up roaches cost for cost. I believe there was a thread showing this somewhere.
