I think what Vodage says is true. At least thats what I hear around me, and I also share the experience.

I'm never going to put in hour after hour in Starcraft anymore. I simply can't. Life obligations get in the way, housekeeping, work, etc. The whole crowd that experienced Starcraft and found it great most likely still exists, I'm one of them. However, we can't put all focus on a game anymore.
With that said, I love Starbow. However my current skill level is way too low to even compete a little. Only Die hards are on all the time in Eros right now, and everyone that isn't a die hard leaves after playing 2 to 10 games of losing.

It would be nice if Starbow grew. Starbow should grow, and a way to do it is not only attract the more casual players (it has already done this) but also keep them interested. So now the question is: What would be a good way to keep casual players interested?

We've already established that new casual players are put off by the skill gap, so we should enable casual players to play together, at least until a large player base is established and casuals will be on all the time.
A way to enable this (I'm not saying 'the best way', but it is a suggestion) would be to create some sort of period stamp on when a player will be there. A player can leave a 'stamp' in the chat or in a separate window next to that, with a time that he or she will be back. The stamp would contain simple information: Player name, rank and time of return. Of course it is no guarantee that a player will be back, but at least there is a way for casual and other players to meet up and get together, without waiting in Eros all the time. If this is succesful, enough players should exist at all time, eventually (and hopefully) make the functionality irrelevant.

That's my suggestion. Whether you do something with it or not, something should be done to actively keep casual players interested in the game.

I'm a casual player, you can play with me on NA server! However I'm not sure our schedules will coincide...
I've got a very busy life too.

For the casuals:
Mini Challenges to get you interested. Like Missions or like in Starcraft Masters. They must be rewarding.
Later: Guides like Buildorder guides, leagues and well casted tournaments.
I would "invest" in the pricepool of such a tournament if that helps Starbow to get known a bit more. A small but wellknown tourney like the Teamliquid LR Tournament and later a bigger one. But: the game must feel balanced from the start

If anyone would make mini-missions / tutorial maps for Starbow we would welcome that very much. The mod file (StarbowBeta) is unlocked and can be added to any map of your choosing. We can also send you loading screens and other graphics needed to make it look "official".

Problem with uploading to custom maps is that each user can only upload 20 maps, and we are very close to our limit divided by at least two accounts.

But they are all public. Feel free to download them via the editor, remove the Starbow dependency and then upload them to custom maps yourself. Just remember to keep the "made by" in the description.

I think they need to be relabeled as "melee" maps. They are made as arcade maps. Not sure how you do that.

Worst case: Make new melee map with same bounds and copy + paste whole map.

Does StarBow have a group or IRC Channel? I am having issues trying to register an account (never receive the confirmation email); I'd really like to try it out, already played a few games and would like some challenges. If anyone wants to help out, it would be much appreciated. My skype is @legendarydreams. We could probably play a few games of SB as well.

If you do this make sure you copy+paste and realign the doodads separately, they aren't included in the standard terrain copy+paste.

Thank you, just wanted to note that you might have to wait from 30 min - 1 hour for the confirmation email once registering on the starbowmod website. After that it was smooth sailing.

Damnit man I was looking forward to checking that out, but it appears you don't have the VoDs saved from it apparently
