CN teams tend to the opposite and look awesome before worlds (lower stakes) and then look awful when the stakes are high (worlds)

look at it this way, when CN teams flop they won't have to swim home because the tournament is in china.

Watching Fnatc from last night the analysts have called lb vs Syndra a skill match up like 100x This has been considered Syndra favored for a long time did this change with the gunblade build?

Hong Kong Attitude losing to the Turkish team is a pretty big deal. If they actually come in 2nd we will have one very interesting matchup in round 2 with one of the main region teams not making it to worlds. Would also make the draw for those elimination matches quite interesting.

No matter what happens, I want Lyon to play against D1, they're the only ones that stand a chance of doing anything of value in groups of all the emerging region teams, it would be a shame if they played C9/Fnatic

At the same time, having Lyon vs possibly FB would be kind sucky.

Who is D1?

Anyway, Fenerbahce do a pretty good job so far. Seems like they are the only ones that could make the play-ins go different than expected.

Either FB or HKA depending on the tiebreaker.

I could definitely see Lyon taking either of those teams.

Fnatic still looking pretty awful. Is it finally time to admit that they just aren't good or do we keep pretending all the times they look awful are just outliers?

YG could have easily been first seed in this group. Unfortunate they threw against Fnatic game 1 and cocked up against KLG

edit: This may put into perspective why Fnatic players were saying Gambit was good and easily LCS.

Fnatic look solid in most of their games, but that game was just really sad to watch. Rekkles really tilted that whole game, sub-par decision making like recalling on a pink ward. The first death was unlucky, one more AA and Varus would've been stunned and probably dead, but everything after that was bad play by him. Games like this show the difference between Fnatic and G2, they play passive and think they can win against weaker teams like that. It does work, but teams like YG are good enough to be able to expand a lead, they're not going to roll over and die like some of the other wildcard teams because they have 0 macro. And that strategy does not work at all on better teams.

First major region loss, that hits home. Although I do have to admit YG are not a bad team, totally agree if not for that dumb loss to KLG they could be first seed.

Don't like seeing Syndra and Galio every game.

Even if Fnatic's loss was just an accident they still don't look like top 2 in groups material.

This botlane stomp in HKA vs FB xD Varus > Trist, at least today

HKA from LMS already lost vs a Turkish team, which is why we are having a tie breaker right now.

I think there might be the Scip jungle pressure principle going on during that route

you see, as a jungler, as soon as you gank, you lose all jungle pressure. But if your enemy doesn't know where you are, they are shitting themselves while you are farming efficiently. The superleash into full clear is the extreme example of this principle at work.
You may laugh, but I got challenger with no pre-6 gank Evelynn a few seasons back xD

Nvm FB actually made it. That is indeed pretty big. Now 1 big region team will be eliminated and 1 wild card will make it into worlds main tournament.
The draw for the elimination matches will be super important now, really big RNG factor for this tournament.
