Long answer (to explain further upon your point about support MF from last year) : Leading into this years Worlds everyone knew that Ardent Sensor was super OP and that if you don't pick support champs that can build it, you're going to lose or be VERY far behind in teamfights in the mid/late game. So what every team did was pick an Ardent Sensor champion and paired it with an ADC that has a weak early game but strong mid/late game. Right now, those ADCs are Trist, Kog'Maw, the on-hit Varus build, and Xayah. Kalista is permaban because she can abuse these early game ADCs and supports thanks to her spear stacking, AND scales just as well as the above ADCs. The other three roles either had continued scaling due to being super tanks like Chogath, Maokai, and Sejuani, and strong 1-2 item power spikes with solid scaling into mid/late game like Cassio, Ryze, and Syndra. Corki also benefits from the Ardent Sensor, but needs both Triforce and IE to fully come online, which is just a bit too slow in some cases. And by in large, you saw all those champions in week 1. The thing is that for week 2, other teams were able to identify these super slow scalers and weak early games from the week 1 team compositions and exploit it with proactive plays and champions like J4, Rumble, and Jayce, who have strong early games and fall off more in mid/late game. Trundle also re-emerged as a split pusher, tank shredding champion to combat the Cho and Maokai in top lane. That's why the Caitlyn pick was so smart and so brutal in the week 2 WE vs. TSM game. It's an ADC who people thought had been nerfed out of the meta, but her large AA range and strong lane presence, when combined with Ardent Sensor means that with just a BF Sword she hits for a stupid amount of damage in the 8-12 minute mark, even if her attack speed is low. This let WE push down towers fast, get turret gold + ward up TSM's jungle, and suffocate them with item advantage and vision advantage.

It was a theoretical novelty, to borrow chess lingo, that ROX prepared specifically for their SKT semifinal. I'm excited to see what TNs the Korean teams have saved up for this year, because you sure as shit know that SKT ain't busting out their secret strats against ahq.

I know it won't happen but if SKT goes 0-3 EDG goes 3-0 C9 goes 1-2 and AHQ goes 2-1 everyone would be 3-3 I assume it'd be similar to group B where they have a mini 'gauntlet' where the fastest game time win sits at the top and the slowest has to work their way up from the bottom also skt losing to a taiwanese team in group stages is pretty much tradition at this point
