You lose 27 AP when you buy the Mk-I core, you can't one-shot the caster minions at level 7 anymore, and it gets worse by 1 AP per level, meaning you won't one shot the wave short of building about 40 AP more than you did before. This may seem peanuts to you, but it's over 800 gold early game. That's huge. And it's not just about stats in general. Because Mk. I is utter garbage now, cost-efficiency-wise, you lose a lot on tempo by buying it vs someone who'll go, say, Codex + pots or something (or save a bit more and get NLR, even). You're behind whatever level of hexcore you have until level 15. You're awfully behind if you don't upgrade to the full level. Which means you spend almost 1.5k on utility alone (level 13 Viktor gets ~50 AP from Mk II). So not only Riot is still stuck in "nerf early game, buff late game" as their sole vision for adjusting champions' balance, they don't weight the impact of tempo and momentum when they decide to play around wave clear, its implications, and item timings. | ||

Except Chinese teams have better strategy too, Western ones are more likely to win if they figure some OP stuff out first. | ||
