300s cd, reduced by 20% for targeting towers. That's 60s on unmodified cooldowns. I just don't see how it's possible for you to survive in lane against a decent opponent; sure, you get a stronger spike when you finish a cost-efficient item, but you set yourself back 850 gold + a summoner spell. Isn't that why you don't rush Tear on every champ because you're wasting 700 gold on non-combat stats? But by being able to go camp => TP, you give yourself that strong level2 start to give you a solid foothold. By getting the Sabre, you turn Smite into a lower cooldown exhaust, pretty much. It becomes harder to stop your splitpushing, you can poach more easily, and with TP your neutral objective control is pretty strong. Tear isn't bought on everybody because most champions don't have low enough cooldowns to be able to stack it fast enough to be worth the early game dip.

I'd rather have smite+flash so I can just smash my opponent's head to the ground :D Just reiterating my point, I know you play at a Diamond level so you're more qualified than I am (continually bronze) but once again we've seen some of the best Riven players on NA switch from ignite to TP on Riven while playing solo queue.I'm not taking it as biblical proof, but there's some validity to going TP on a mobile top laner because TPing bot for a double/triple kill gets you further ahead than simply killing the other top laner 1v1.

Then there's just the ADDED bonus of global presence, but I kinda feel like soloq rarely offers a decent opportunity for it. Botlane rarely ever ward deep for a gank, even drag being completely unwarded is not uncommon, and this is in diamond.

How do you manage to stay in Bronze this season btw? Iirc once your Elo is high enough you skip even tier promos, and yours hovers around Plat or something, so largely enough to skip Silver promos.

Could toplaners taking smite w/ TP be a the start of a trend towards people opting for offensive summoners over flash in general? We already saw people starting to run ignite/TP (Hecarim, Fizz), and now there's lots of theorycrafting going on wrt what champs could manage without flash in favor of smite. The fact that Cinderhulk and Challenging Smite are so strong may be the catalyst for people to start questioning whether flash is worth it on a lot of champs, even after/if Riot nerf laning w/ smite. Flash has been a core summoner on almost every champ/lane for years and years, it would be really interesting if this started a trend of taking other summoners en masse instead of just on certain picks/ in certain lanes.

EDIT: Need to update my page before posting so I don't just repeat stuff others have said. Also, what is your opinion on building Tiamat on Garen? I personally think Garen can often get away with 2 damage items, and BT and Ghostblade suck + LW is a must-buy imo. So Funfire into Hexdrinker/Tiamat depending on matchup? Don't really want to buy LW that early and I feel I need some damage after first tank item.

Isn't that why you don't rush Tear on every champ because you're wasting 700 gold on non-combat stats? imo skirimisher smite dumpsters ignite and exaust by being a weaker version of both at the same time (and not weak enough to matter, and on a way shorter cd) so yea it sucks early but the smite gives you a level advantage to compinsate, once you get sabre it's better than ignite and smite, and once you finish a tank item it's better than flash (for not dying) On April 09 2015 02:00 AlterKot wrote: I feel really weird about toplaners and junglers taking exhaust/tp/ignite/smite over flash. Pony has very good escape tools with E and R and Shaco has his Q so I understand why you'd sacrifice flash on them, but I feel like we're gonna hit a point where people start abusing the lack of flash one way or another (take distortion boots and only fight with flash up?) and people will go back to using it. actually taking smite has taught me a lot about how much of a pussy I am/was I've gotten focused by a lot of junglers trying to punish my summoner choice, and I can think of 5 times off the top of my head where my mind was saying FLASH NOW and I got out with my life
