Even if the RNG gods hate you, I find myself winning most lanes. Very few top laners now a days have the trading power, sustain, and lock down required to beat on AP tryn. Basically just like Riven, maybe Gnar but you kind of have to screw up to let Gnar beat on you enough for it to matter. People tunnel visioning on stuff like smite tp shy shy.
Honestly, in most lanes hardest part is not having your teammates dodge.
The lane pressure and sustain is unreal. Mixed with the unlikable escape R makes you pretty obnoxious.
A buddy of mine mains Shaco. Never teamfight, always split push. So terror in solo queue, enemy team can't blink without losing towers. One of us gets chased off, other one takes an inhib, rinse repeat. So toxic.

The secret is to build 2 offensive items before the tankiness like bruta + infinity then your Q+E combo becomes brutal if you reach to the squishes. The few good garens in the world know how to reach the back lines and this is what separates the good garens from great garens xD

If you are building damage items one is LW, we did the math, its the best. Brutalizer isn't bad, its every stat you want, hex is good too.

brutalizer isnt great because you dont really want bc most of the time and cdr is a poor stat on garen because of the way his cds work (q and e both start cd after you finish hitting and not when you finish casting, W and R are long enough that cdr doesn't matter too much)
nearly all the time you think you want brutalizer you really want hexdrinker or faster sunfire/randuins

Brut isn't bad on paper but its a trap item because its 1337 gold that isn't going into tank items or LW. For less than 1k more gold you get LW which is massively better. You basically buy brut to win lane except then you do no damage after lane unless you also get LW, but you cant afford too much gold on offensive items. Hex at least doubles as a defensive item and garen gets extra MR from it due to his W.

I wish I had an option to split Garen's magic damage at the end of a game between sunfire and his ult. One did the most damage of the team once in a 40 minutes game (granted I was on Tristana so I did the least damage, even less than my duo support Zyra).
Garen > Katarina who gets resets x')

In what order do you get Sunfire/LW/Hexdrinker/general tank items?
I assume you always prioritize Sunfire (with Hexdrinker first if you need it), followed by another tank item, followed by LW? Or do you get LW even earlier than that?

generally sunfire is just super fucking good because your DPS is low and you often lack some damage to kill someone from full, but you don't want to get damage because you need to be tanky
I generally get sunfire/giants/hex or sunfire/randuins/hex or sunfire/hax/randuins if they are squishy but with a lot of tanks you go straight sunfire/lw-->hex or randuins
against AP guys you might want to rush boots2/hex and get sunfire after thuogh

well lots of people get sunfire and dont do the most damage
although garen gets garenteed damage when he lands silence usually because of speed+silence combo
i get most damage done quite a lot on garen way more is ult than sunfire except in lane phase obviously

Teut when do you pick Garen for top lane? Is there any lane you won't pick Garen into?
Also I've noticed that you run Flash + Ignite. Is this because you just want to curb-stomp your lane into submission?

Garen needs the ignite damage to burst people. Also Garen is not a really good tp-ganker.

i pick him into everything although there are some difficult lanes
I run ignite, TP is stronger for lane but TP is useless in teamfights and you rely on your 1-combo burst and ignite adds almost a second ultimate

I would recommend having a regen quints page around just for those people who will pick teemo or quinn or whatever random harass shit that you one combo later on but you can't do anything to early
the most important thing is to be patient and not try to do too much pre lvl 7 against anyone who picks something just to try to stomp you because if you stay on a decent cs standing you'll easily come back later anyway
garen outscales most people pretty well, by the time you get level 11 you're super strong since passive and ult both level up a lot, same with level 16 its a big spike in regen and ult damage

okay smite is officially stupid on top laners. Duo'd with a friend who mains top, he invaded on second red, ended up dueling the enemy jungler and won because he smote big lizard for the heal when the other it used chilling smote on him lmao
