People max E on Kayle for the same reason people used to go grail first on Gragas back when he had 1.0 and .9 ratios, sure you could get double doran into needless and possibly one shot your opponent, but Grail would always accelerate your farm. Not to mention builds these days almost all revolve around around attack speed first (nashor/zerkers)

also rage blade is a good "fun" item for volibear, someone gave me the idea a long time ago but because the stipulation is "until combat ends" Voli can proc the extra stats while actually still being quite healthy in reality due to his passive.

The jungle items look cool. I feel like the challenging smite and deals damage + slow smite overlap though.

Not sure if I like the idea of smite being used as a ganking tool too, sorta cool I guess. The only one that bugs me is the quicken smite, seems a bit obtuse to make it so you get more gold off enemy jungle.

Rage blade was my favorite item to buy on pretty much any champion during the time URF was available.

Myeah, I'm thinking I'm probably giving up alot of clearspeed + potential buff by using a 60s smite on a gank rather than the camp preceding the gank.

They're all obtuse for what type of junglers they should go on, that's the point.

The more that I think about it / watch videos of the new jungle, the more I'm not sure I like the new small camp buffs.

I feel like they create a lot of problems.


#1 - Lack of clarity. They're adding a big learning curve to going into the jungle as a new player or a new spectator with all these new buffs and effects.

#2 - Learning curve, again. They're adding a lot of strategic level complications to the jungle, which is already the most strategically complicated role. I know they said that they wanted to add this, and I'd like to see some of it, but what they've put out is maybe too much.

#3 - Balance difficulties. It's just a ton more stuff to balance.


I dunno. I'm scurred. I feel like that Quick Smite buff is already going to enable counterjungling. The new jungle items are super cool.

Are all these jungle items the upgrade from a base item? I still think Quickening is probably the worst of the bunch, even if you're a strong counter jungler, you won't get that many camps to make up for the lack of cool combat gank stuff from the other items. Especially since the other items make it so you're stronger in a 1v1, thus making your invade more risky even with quickening.

I think it just creates tons of options in the jungle. I mean you can take a champ like Mordekaiser or Garen into the jungle and still have an ability to at least slow a champ during a gank. We're going to see a lot of players experimenting with different junglers, and at the professional level we may get to see some new team wide strategies revolving around the jungle pick. Instead of just seeing the same handful of champs picked or banned every game.

Yes, the build patch goes from Machet => Smite Changer and then Smite Changer + Kindle Gem, Vamp Scepter, Codex, or Stinger.

No we won't.

The strong junglers will still be the strongest junglers, with even MORE tools added to their kits.

We should see more viable soloQ picks though, I'll grant that.
Teamwork is awesome... As long as your team is doing all the work!

That would be true if they didn't make all the jungle camps hit like a truck. I was messing around on PBE and got killed by Wraiths twice.

Couple of important points as you think about the Machete upgrades.

  • You won't get the 80 experience bonus from Smite if you use it on enemy champions/lane minions.
  • Increasing the frequency you can Smite increases how often you can get the 80 experience bonus.


Also, Terranasaur is completely correct. Most of your Mordekaiser jungle dreams aren't going to be crushed by competitive junglers, but by the jungle itself.

Just be aware that shields prevent the Machete regen buff from proccing while they hold. The procs last a few seconds but you'll want to get hit before shielding, and then try to let your shields break often enough to keep the procs rolling.

Not at home lately, so I haven't been able to check them out in game, but do the warrior(AD) and magus(AP) jungle enchantments feel as lackluster as they look compared to the Slayer(AS) an Juggernaut(HP) ones?
