sion's kit definitely seems like it would work better in a support/peeling role. his Q is way better at zoning someone away from an area than it is catching someone out and 15% max hp on W away from the front lines where the shield can't be easily popped is significant damage on tanky diving champions.

but since you have to farm with him just to have normal champion hp levels you're stuck in some kind of nautilus style peeling jungler role (with terrible ganks but better farming/scaling) and i'm not sure that role is currently a viable thing.

Nightblu has been going on about how good sion was going to be when it hit so I watched him this morning, he makes it look pretty decent, I'd still take an old ap sion main on my team in solo q over this if I really needed a win though.
Carrilord has arrived.

Yeah he actually looked much worse on pbe than in ranked for nightblue. Was pleasantly surprised. There may be hope for soloq at least yet.

All fighters / top laners work best in a support / peeling role. Lol.

Even like Rumble. It's not the damage that he gives that makes him good, it's the zone control that lets your AD go ham.

Guess this is kinda late answer to "is thorin good at interviewing", but... I don't know many interviewers, but of those I know, Thorin is my favorite. First of all, he asks almost none fluff-generic questions, it's always about gaming and almost always about the player he's interviewing (only 5-10% of the questions are interviewee's thoughts on something not directly related to him, such as some player's powerlevel, some orgs decision and such). Secondly, I think the fact he asks those long, detailed questions helps in acquiring interesting, honest answers, as opposed to empty, polite answers when the question is just too broad (for example: Travis interviews). Also, the question helps the player form the answers by giving them language to work with, not to mention it forces them to think about it and create an answer on the fly, again as oposed to your typical interview where the player just remembers his PR training and uses prepared forms and thought process. And finally, he's not afraid to push the players when he thinks they are either avoiding or don't understand the question, but at the same time he's willing to abandon the original question and follow player's though thread when he thinks that's more interesting. Not to mention he's one of the only to even try the long-form interview, and pretty much the only to succeed with it when it comes to progaming. Sadly I don't know pretty much any interviewers in other topics I could compare him to, which I should probably fix at some point, but from what I do know - no one else even comes close.

I don't really like his articles though. No particular reason, at least I can't think of one from the top of my head.
Americans don't like to use unblockables, it is considered not honest. You press a button at the wrong time and hit the other person, you are random, not a top player. You DP Sim's far fierce, it is random and not honest.

Akali change is for good I think. During laning I was like holy shit this even is a buff, you actually have some gank assist now and cs'ing is easier now, but late holy moly huge nerf. You can no longer jump in and just kill everything. On a champ like Akali with all the sustain resistances are godly.
I guess it's just Riot's philosophy to just even out all champ's power curves. Though I will def miss the godmode lategame that was Akali.

hm...I'm not convinced Akali ever had a good lategame. Every Akali I've ever seen has always rolled enemies post-6, but always seem to have trouble closing out the game even with shroud.

I dunno, I wouldn't be surprised if they just gutted him pending a rework.

If you look at all the things riot dislikes (point and click stuns, dominating top laners, strong lategames without proper early weaknesses,) ryze has basically all of them.

getting rid of mana scaling is completely chomping at the core character design of Ryze... I rather they hit the AP ratios instead.

... and team compositions on the whole. Bad early game? Don't worry, we've got comeback mechanics for that.
How did the experience of working at Mr Burns' Nuclear Plant influence Homer's composition of the Iliad and Odyssey?

Ryze got mana scaling on his W and E when they nerfed it on his Q. This was admittedly a long time ago but its not really his core identity. Were there any compensation buffs on his Q?

Without a compensation that is a pretty huge nerf since when they originally did that they cut his ratios big time to do it.

I would rather like to see Ryze's W slow instead of roots instead of pure damage nerfs.

The only champions with really bad earlygames are generally underpowered, or champions they intentionally keep weak. There are plenty of really good earlygame champions like Lee, Karma, Cait, Lucian, Elise, Brumble. And have been others in the past that were nerfed across the board because they were great early and never really fell off, like Draven and Leblanc.

I'm not going to go overboard into theroy crafting so I can get blown up by ketara later, but as an example

Q>E>Q>W is actually a decent amount more damage in the game currently, but in almost all cases people will Q>W instead of getting greedy because Ryze will just get kited so hard otherwise, I think about this and him not having a root really scares me

not even going into my opinion on point and click snares/stuns that I've mentioned on this forum many times, and why I think they are actually healthier (than having them all removed which seems to be happening) for the game
Carrilord has arrived.

Considering Ryze's damage potential and his build/scaling/tankiness, I feel that he doesn't really need a snare. Especially not a point-and-click one that is nearly instant (as far as I know, his W does have a cast time - however the missile is instant). Time and time again I see Ryze Flashing into the enemy team, W -> E -> Q and finish up the squishy with his team's help, then walk out of it because his build allows him to be tanky.

I actually think there is little counterplay with Ryze Flash W. It's kind of like Skarner Flash R - but the snare is not as good as the suppression (at least theoretically); in exchange Ryze has better damage and longer reach.

Now, this game still has a lot of point-and-click hard CCs. For example Taric can Flash E. The differencem however, is that Ryze;s W is pretty much instant, leaving you with very little room to react.

I am sure Ryze without W snare (and slows instead) will still be pretty strong. He will have problems chasing squishy targets, yes, but in teams which he gets jumped on there will be little differences.

Riot's approach isn't too bad, but I think removing mana scaling from two of his spells really cut down Ryze's identify and homogenizes champion identities.

The QoL change to GP's ulti is so good. I have no idea why it took Riot 3 years to realize that an ultimate that can potentially do zero damage is not fun. It's like, "hey, I can actually pick up kills on enemy champs with 50 hp while they try to blue pill under their turret instead of them walking out of the circle unscathed."

It's such a good buff that I think it's better than Ziggs' MIB. It's one of the last remaining true globals and in tandem with Teleport, it's like a split pusher's wet dream.
