but since you have to farm with him just to have normal champion hp levels you're stuck in some kind of nautilus style peeling jungler role (with terrible ganks but better farming/scaling) and i'm not sure that role is currently a viable thing.

Yeah he actually looked much worse on pbe than in ranked for nightblue. Was pleasantly surprised. There may be hope for soloq at least yet.

All fighters / top laners work best in a support / peeling role. Lol. Even like Rumble. It's not the damage that he gives that makes him good, it's the zone control that lets your AD go ham.

I don't really like his articles though. No particular reason, at least I can't think of one from the top of my head.

I guess it's just Riot's philosophy to just even out all champ's power curves. Though I will def miss the godmode lategame that was Akali.

If you look at all the things riot dislikes (point and click stuns, dominating top laners, strong lategames without proper early weaknesses,) ryze has basically all of them.

Actually they really just hate bad earlygames on any champion.

Ryze got mana scaling on his W and E when they nerfed it on his Q. This was admittedly a long time ago but its not really his core identity. Were there any compensation buffs on his Q? Without a compensation that is a pretty huge nerf since when they originally did that they cut his ratios big time to do it.

The only champions with really bad earlygames are generally underpowered, or champions they intentionally keep weak. There are plenty of really good earlygame champions like Lee, Karma, Cait, Lucian, Elise, Brumble. And have been others in the past that were nerfed across the board because they were great early and never really fell off, like Draven and Leblanc.

I'm not going to go overboard into theroy crafting so I can get blown up by ketara later, but as an example Q>E>Q>W is actually a decent amount more damage in the game currently, but in almost all cases people will Q>W instead of getting greedy because Ryze will just get kited so hard otherwise, I think about this and him not having a root really scares me not even going into my opinion on point and click snares/stuns that I've mentioned on this forum many times, and why I think they are actually healthier (than having them all removed which seems to be happening) for the game

I actually think there is little counterplay with Ryze Flash W. It's kind of like Skarner Flash R - but the snare is not as good as the suppression (at least theoretically); in exchange Ryze has better damage and longer reach. Now, this game still has a lot of point-and-click hard CCs. For example Taric can Flash E. The differencem however, is that Ryze;s W is pretty much instant, leaving you with very little room to react. I am sure Ryze without W snare (and slows instead) will still be pretty strong. He will have problems chasing squishy targets, yes, but in teams which he gets jumped on there will be little differences. Riot's approach isn't too bad, but I think removing mana scaling from two of his spells really cut down Ryze's identify and homogenizes champion identities.

It's such a good buff that I think it's better than Ziggs' MIB. It's one of the last remaining true globals and in tandem with Teleport, it's like a split pusher's wet dream.
