You don't pick Amumu for the ult damage.
Bulwark being castable during his ult wasn't a thing last time you played seriously Soniv, they explicitly added it in a patch in the meantime. remember when it used to have 1.0 AP ratio on it? those were the good days.

The patch they added it in was the S2 Worlds patch. You were still a #FREERPACADEMY struggler into S3 yea?

I played most of S3. I'm just a baddie then - stop lying to me Alaric

For once that I'm not the one hammering you, you're still unsatisfied. Wow.

By the way alaric, yes we do expect Galio's R to be a nuke. Because frankly if you are just a CC bot you don't deserve to be a mid laner. You should be a support if you are just a cc bot.
|
Just reread then, because I qualified it as mainly an AoE cc with damage tacked on top of it. People don't expect Wukong's ult to nuke people when they pick him as a jungle initiator. They mostly want the cc, with (at least) acceptable damage, they don't pick him to 100-0 people with the added bonus of cc-ing him.
I'd use Galio's ult to lockdown people, not to expect to kill them by myself.

He is meant to be a support mid laner. If you're taking Galio mid, you're gonna need damage elsewhere on your team. I really like picking him for a 4 protect 1 comp, or even just as a more defensive pick.

Bulwark being castable during his ult wasn't a thing last time you played seriously Soniv, they explicitly added it in a patch in the meantime. I pick amumu for his ult damage or damage in general. Ap amumu is the only way to play him and the q e r combo is enough to kill an adc.

So I've been thinking a bit outside of the box lately, and to move this discussion to another champ, but still in the realm of "hipster picks": Tank Annie toplane, you get Rylais, Wota, Spirit Visage, Frozen Heart, Mpen Boots and Thornmail/Banshees depending on the AP/AD ratio of their team (if only ap mid, get thornmail) The idea is to, with your low q cd and your max cdr to sustain, stun continuously and kill the adc/aa-champs with your shield/thornmail alone. Now I do admit, no math was done, but I feel like alot of champs can be repurposed in a different way, and this might be one of them.

I'd say the issue with such a build is that you lack means to make people actually attack you. You can't let a Maokai or Zac sit on your face, but Annie's base damage isn't exceptional (nor is the sustain she'd get from Q spam), she lacks mobility and stickiness outside of using the rylai slow (which is meh), and her auto animation + base AS are bad enough that she doesn't do much during downtimes.
Tibbers can force people to deal with it but it dies rather quickly, and it makes people attack it, not you. I'd surmise you're not enough of a threat with such a build to actually reap its benefits. Even your initiation is flash-reliant.
Woah, EUW is so busted. Took 25+ seconds to switch my summoner spells, about as long to take into account my rune switching, doesn't display allies' picks, "retrieving data from server" and almost a minute to launch a game, etc. Getting the TT icon is hard if people don't connect.

I've tried tanky toplane Annie, pretty mediocre. I think you'd be better off trying tanky toplane Veigar, he will pack more of a punch with few items.
Disintegrate 625 range, 220 +80% AP, 4s CD Baleful Strike 650 range, 260 +60% AP, 4s CD

I think the problem is that without any defensive steroids or heavily investing in defensive items, you will be blown up super fast. This is why it's usually better to play squishy Annie, blow someone fast ASAP, then just die.
I think your idea is OK, but you might find more mileage simply by playing Maokai instead.

You can get pretty tanky with RoA + Abyssal + Zhonya + Molten Armor, and still do ass tons of damage. This is pretty much my standard mid build anyway. If I don't need the defenses, I'll get a DFG earlier, but Annie is more resilient than a lot of people give her credit for.

kind of like scarra leaving dig as coach and much of dig considering moving on as well.

Yes, that was my main concern thinking about stuff like this, the most important question with this is: can I actually be in their face and cause anough chaos, to justify a build like this? The answer might be no, maybe I'll need a void staff instead of WOTA or Visage, I don't know yet, but I'll test it soon enough :D

Does vlad do okay against ryze in lane?
|
Haven't played that match-up in ages, but I don't think so. Ever since rework with movespeed on Desperate Power, Ryze is able to force an all-in again Vlad, which he wins. Maybe you can leverage some level 1-2 fast push shenanigans to keep a thin lead.
