Aside from the plot holes (and stuff like "how would the league enforce its policy to begin with" or "how would it deal with rogue summoners assembling and trying to contact city-states to replace the League with their own, more complacent organisation"), there were a lot of fine and interesting concepts in the original lore, either from a world-building viewpoint, or just to explore (an old red post stated that while a huge spell maintained over the rift during matches prevents champions from dying, they do feel the pain until they're restored at the summoning platform; Brand probably doesn't care, Garen is highly disciplined, Swain's lore speaks for itself, but what of, say, Syndra or Gragas? Or Rengar? "Thrill" or not, you've gotta be a masochist to volunteer in there). If they remold the lore into more pointedly defined factions at odds, and without a "neutral" base to level the playing field? Compare highly-trained and militarised Demacia and Noxus to opportunistic adventurers and tricksters from Bilgewater who lack a government, or the loose cannons from Zaun who don't even care about theirs (the most "influential" champions from Zaun probably being Mundo and Viktor, the former has made a wide array of (applied) discoveries, the latter is stated as having a following amongst Zaun's denizens; Singed is more or less tied to Noxus because contracts), and it becomes harder to make it all fit.

And I think this is why they decided to revamp the "lore", to be able to create an actual story using the League of Legends world and characters. If they don't then yes starting from scratch is absolutely pointless.

Also if I get Void Staff as a first or second item, is Liandry's Torment still good? Sometimes, I get Zhonya's second instead of D-Cap (usually Zhonya is my second item after Void Staff or DCap) and then after that I don't know what to get.

http://www.lolcounter.com/ Its not black and white though, alot of matchups are skillbased, slight advantages or just grey areas.

edit: oh and Holy Grail, Deathcap, Voidstaff, Hourglass is pretty cookie cutter. Doesn't really matter in which order you get it but Grail is probably the best first buy.

I hate this site. It causes so many people to pick champions they don't play in effort to counter and then lose lane because they don't know what they're doing and the other person does because they've seen the lane a billion times.

The passive on assists is just a bonus. Ori you pretty much build grail first in majority of matchups. Sometimes you go tear/morello's but that's more niche. Either way it's your mana item not a ganking item so I'm not sure why you think you need to start ganking when you get it. Think you misunderstand the item.
