Got around platinum ELO using mainly Swain in season 2, and was basically a nobody. Things started to really click for him in season 3, where he managed to get challenger. He usually played Ryze, Kassadin, Twisted Fate, and got the number one rank multiple times as an amateur player (a feat shared by others such as imba, Crumbled Cookies in Season 3).

What makes him stand out are a couple of things.

1) He is a famous ELO booster who prides himself in being able to know exactly how to climb the rankings on the ladder. He discussed in detail over which champions and roles are suited for solo-que (things like how top lane isn't great for climbing the ladder).
2) He was involved in multiple incidents that got a lot of public attention involving girls, bans from competitive gaming, knowing the "dirty pasts" of professional gamers, which made him more recognizable as a streamer.
3) He actually expresses himself very well, and knows a lot about the game, as well as being a very good player.

He's been compared to Faker because of his "accomplishments" in solo-que, and his near-mythical status due to being banned from competitive play and having a "bad boy" image.

In my personal opinion. It's ridiculous how people who will struggle to name all the members of the SK Telecom T1 S team, and are barely familiar with the Korean scene except Faker, pretend Apdo is some kind of the "evil version of Faker" just because they saw him beat Faker a couple of times in solo-que games. He is now the most notorious amateur player out there, and just like he tried to leech fame by trying to duel versus better amateur players like DoSoo in season 2, players who have "beaten" Apdo like Doinbi are claiming they are the best amateur players. In the end, it's all meaningless, and it's the battle of the egos between kids who are very good solo-que players.

By the way, for those who seriously believe that solo-que performance defines what kind of a player you are. Kinsh, the guy that got kicked out of CJ Entus reached the number one spot on solo-que (because he had more time on his hands than the other professionals), something MadLife couldn't do at the time, not because he was inferior, but because he had better things to do. The 70% win rate theory presented by LS is iffy since ClearLove managed to do the same, yet I dare anyone to claim that he is a better player than KaKAO just because his win rate of his solo-que challenger account is superior. Solo-que is just solo-que, and people have different needs for it. For some, it's to try out new things, for people like Apdo, it's how they get their street cred, and for others, it's just for fooling around while streaming.

I've watched all the famous Korean streamers that started their "careers" on PotPlayer, and Apdo was one of them. Seriously, the guy a sick good, but the status to which some people claim him to be, are simply out of place.

Oh speaking of eloboosting though some guy named "lolacadmey" (yes, he spelled it wrong) added me yesterday as I was jumping into a solo queue game to ask if I wanted to boost for lol-academy.com or something. I declined and said I didn't have the time because I was getting my doctorate and he got super pissed at me. He was like "doctorate?" "what's that" and I responded "it means I will eventually be a doctor" and he was like "ur career is fuckin garbage" "i make more money than u already" and I was like "yes" "but you are surprisingly stupid for someone running an academy lol"

I kinda wanna get this guy shut down for being a dick.

Another way to do this is to play support and buy sightstone until you're out of silver.

But alternately if you're in a tanky position(especially as a tanky jungler) it actually might make more sense for you to get the sight stone rather than the support because the support is damage focused and so both; (a) More likely to be picked off while warding and (b) Doesn't scale with HP

I am actually kind of surprised that we haven't seen coordinated teams doing that. It makes sense in soloqueue because everyone understands the support buys the sight but in a coordinated game it makes sense for everyone to be as efficiently built as everyone else since its easy to coordinate builds. And sightstone just isn't efficient on AP damage focused supports.

But if you're doing League for a living by boosting you either don't need an account, or can get back to diamond fast enough by simply making a new account.

The only really effective way to stop it is by banning enough boosted accounts so that no one wants to risk boosting. But doing that is hard especially if boosting is done smart.
