Maokai's a pretty cool dude and we're always happy to see a magical tree beating up dragons and yordles, but having a 100% uptime on Vengeful Maelstrom doesn't offer many windows of opportunity (otherwise known as counterplay!), and we may have overshot slightly on his base power. I really don't understand Riots logic sometimes, if Maokai's R uptime is a problem why does his W need to be nerfed alongside it? Just change the ult and see what happens, if he is still overplayed or too strong, THEN change the W.

You were looking at a ranged root with almost the same DPS as WW Q(including AP from RoA), in addition to the other stuff in maokai's kit.

Nah. I just want to see Riot's "competitive integrity".

Unfortunately it is not the case with Rioteers, they just can't balance, they can only nerf champions to the ground thus forcing metagame shifts. We don't have situation where 120 champs are equal, they dont even try to achieve this with champions changes. Now we have situation where roughly 20-30 champions are viable, rest are trash - suddenly nerfbat will hit next patch, current top picks will come down the toilet and another narrow closed group of viable picks wil be formed - repeat above with another patch. Look at recent nerfs for Kha Zix - I admit, he was really powerful, but constant patching didn't balanced him, it nerfed him to the ground. Can you tell me exactly what it is with this patch that you are mad about? Because so far all I hear is random, unfocused ranting about how bad Riot is at balancing with no actual mention to anything about this specific patch itself. I'm diamond 2 right now and I think literally every change in this patch was warranted, not that big of a deal, or good for that thing you were talking about. You know, that it'll "even the champion selection field." To be honest, if you're actually upset about the changes in this patch I think you might not have the skill to understand why they're no big deal.

Just change the ult and see what happens, if he is still overplayed or too strong, THEN change the W. I think it's pretty easy to understand why a targeted 2 second gapclosing root that does 15% MAX hp + 4% per 100 AP on a 9 second cooldown (note: 5.4 seconds with standard CDR build on a 2 second root) as a part of a kit with two slows and a knockup was in need of a minor damage nerf. They took 2% off of it and 1% per 100 off of the scaling. I personally think the skill would still be useful even if it did no damage, kinda like Ashe arrow. A 2% nerf probably won't even be noticed in a fight. That's like 60 damage lost against a champ with 3000 health, which is like the worst case scenario. Against squishies you're only losing like 20 damage total.
