Shen, TF, Eve, Twitch...thou I am doubtful anyone had stats at the time to show exact numbers.

What are they doing with Nidalee to make her so frightening exactly?

None of those were at such high ban %s. I think Kassadin has been the record-holder for quite some time. Shaco might have been back when he was good but I still doubt it. Kassadin is one of the few champions that is always banned at pretty much all skill brackets.

Not playing badly

Nidalee has always been a solo queue all-star but in competitive play she has been nothing but a maximum disrespect pick since they removed the defensive stats on her cougar form. She basically has two play styles, midalee and bruiser top lane. When Nidalee builds bruiser the ONLY thing she is good for is split pushing. Her team fight is possibly the worst in the game of any "viable" top lane. As midalee, spears are a highly unreliable poke that any top tier competitive team should be able to outplay and she does way less damage in direct confrontations than any other mage with similar AP since her spear is basically all she can do now that going in with cougar is suicidal.
Basically what nidalee does is throw out a ton of random damage and wait for the enemy to make a mistake. In disorganized environments like solo queue this will give the illusion of consistency but I doubt SKT1 will fall for it.

Yay, a proper answer. Thanks.

skt got wrecked pretty hard by a nidalee recently. it's not just the nidalee alone though, it's her together with a heavy disengage, poke comp. they can just poke you out of turret defense range and get free turrets. unless you catch their adc or soemthing there's nothing you can do about it either

my answer was actually the exactly the same and more concise except with less error because assuming that pros never hit skillshots is dumb and poke comps are definitely viable

Right, anyway..I loved watching poke comps back in the day so seeing them return is awesome viewing for me.

it was ok for a couple of games, but nowadays some games are just "sit in front of turrets and chuck spears all day while the other team stands around". not very interesting

I feel to fight soloQ nidalee, you need to deny her ANY blue buffs after about level 13, when her heal starts kicking in.

her kit is godlike in solo queue
you have her spears. 2-3 spears into the backline will turn a fight into a 5v4 and on top of that when you have the 3 fotm junglers in korean solo queue (j4, ls, vi) diving a 5v4, youll probably come out winnin that fight.
whats rarely mentioned is her play style post 6 and her trap damage at level 5 with some ap. post 6 shes able to roam dumb fast with her passive + pounce. she can respond to counter ganks/go for ganks in other lanes by herself. a roaming midlaner is always a ++ for your team.
never underestimate her trap damage. i always see a lot of this particular situation where a support roams tryin to clear wards and steps on 2-3 traps. thats a good portion of his hp missing which will signal the other team to either siege a turret/force a fight/go for baron. also that 40% reduction on the targets mr/armor will bring someone down pretty fucking quickly
pick her up for some free lp

Poke comps are a shadow of their former glory. I never said pros dont hit skillshots, I said they are FAR less likely to get hit randomly outside engagements. Ask anybody from TSM or Curse (I remember SV actually went into significant detail on how riot has systematically destroyed poke comps on his stream but I cant be bothered to find it). Until something major is changed poke comps (for competitive play) will only be seen when playing something different or comfortable trumps playing the standard superior comps because you are outclassed by your opponent or unprepared for the meta.
Will it work? Sometimes, but so does everything.

because poke specifically jayce got nerfed a lot because poke was too strong. and not in solo queue either.
skillshots are easier to hit on baddies but baddies are worse at skillshots. Pros are good at skillshots so its harder to predict and dodge them
poke comps are probably slightly better in pro play because you're more likely to be able to set up a comp with strong disengage and often people dont have many hard engagers in their champ pool
