Thats fine. I still dont understand how in that game, in spite of there being these "entrance hazards" (that ostensibly make swapping in a more expensive tactic), swapping seemed to go mostly unpunished.

To be honest I still don't know what a metagame actually would be. People just define it as whatever they want it to mean. At this point it's an empty word to me.
That extra credits video is bullshit. They are basically implying that there is no strategy involved in mid level sc, because you can outperform your opponent on mechanics. It's the same as saying that there is no teamplay involved in amateur football, since you can outrun your opponents. They don't seem to understand competitive games well.

Granted the last time I played was in gen 3, but the most common novice mistake was excessive hazardous swapping early on, which gave away precious information about your team (disregarding the obvious OP combos where 2 pokemon can wall and status spam your whole team). In a game where the entire point was to make proper judgments based on incomplete information that usually resulted in them losing 1-2 key members and then gg-swept.

I think it's partly because they seem to ignore the fact that there is a relationship between strategy and execution. Some strategies are only able to be used with a certain level of execution and the inverse is also true. They make some big assumptions that oversimplify a complex problem in order to make some easy conclusions. It's just shoddy work.

Remembering Korean times on iccup that doesn't sound too far fetched.

You have to remember there is also the presence of leftovers, rapid spin, Roost and wish passing. Hazards aren't that threatening except stealth rocks for flying and fire types as they really hurt those two which is usually why you see them being just left to die or held back until its safe to bring them in. This is also assuming that your opponent even uses let alone brings someone to set them up.

Hey I'm looking to get into this game. What is the best way to approach the learning experience?

I would say just play all the free champions to see which you like the best, and then when you have enough IP buy whichever champion looks the coolest, or you enjoyed playing the most. Basically until you're level 30 just play, and focus on your last hitting. Getting better at League is almost entirely experience.
A lot of it is just thinking about whether what you did was dumb or not. Like fighting with too low health, or not backing because you were greedy for those last few creep kills.

Find someone nice who knows how to play to play with you and explain (ideally VOIP). I am not that person sadly but someone from TL, or an IRL friend if you got em?

You have a full compliment of Rune Slots, Masteries, and Summoner Spells, and Ranked play is available.

Sandstorm passive is OP too. You know who I think is a good 'mon? Nidoking. He was so good in season 1 and then he just fell off the map. With his stats and the way his kit works he can be such a versatile pick. He Viridians fast enough, be a giant lane bully as a bruiser top, probably is one of the highest skillcap mids, and I heard the japanese have started using him as a support lately.
Of course being an S1 'mon, he doesn't have the crazy burst or part of the speed creep that happened at the start of Season 2.

It took me so long to figure out wtf you meant when you used Viridian as a verb.
Now I have a red palm print on my forehead.

Speed creep is actually an illusion. 3 of the 6 fastest non-legendary pokemon were released in S1: Electrode, Jolteon, and Aerodactyl.

Is it bad that I actually don't mind when things go to pokemon every now and then?
