Frank Fields is in charge of the SC2 side of things for IPL. So when he meant main event, he's talking about WoL being the main event over HotS. WoL will be used for all the qualifiers. HotS released two weeks before IPL6. It makes no sense for IPL to host IPL6 on HotS. There's simply not enough time for players to practice.
I understand there are still a lot of unknowns regarding S3, but let's not doomsay so hard when we get news. I still expect IPL6 to be a great event for LoL, even if it won't have as diverse of a team lineup as IPL5.

I'm thinking Bruta Zerker BC Phage Sheen Trinity LW GA. That's a slightly more detailed flow.

Did they ever nerf the range on kogmaw's ultimate? I played AP kog for the first time in a long while and it felt a lot harder than it used to be. The extra stacks also hurt too.. 400 mana is quite a lot even with tear+roa

Honestly, I'd even venture to say that Warmog's is potentially the best pure-survivability item not just for tankier champs, but even for APs and ADs as well--given that their base stats typically fall in the range where HP is more effective than resists, that the the S3 changes reduce the effectiveness of late-game resists, and that they typically often already buy resist items on mixed-stat items (e.g. Zhonya's, Abyssal). Used to provide 1270 health before S3. I think Riot wanted to copy Heart of Tarrasque in DotA. It provides more health regen then before, but still not gamebreaking amounts unless you're playing long drawn out arams. Heart gives 2% health regen per second. This gives 1.5% per 5 seconds. You really have to value the health regen heavily to think the new warmogs is better than the old. You're underrating the fact that you don't have to stack it. It provides an immediate strong item timing rather than a weak one that builds up slightly over time. EDIT: if you actually look at JUST the health component, the new Warmog's is actually a massive improvement based on this fact. New Warmog's: 2500 gold worth of HP for 2650 gold Old Warmog's: 2300 gold worth of HP for 3000 gold initially, 3175 gold worth at max stacks So the old Warmog's was about 10% more efficient for HP at max stacks, but 20% worse on 0 stacks. Shouldnt the new one be more efficent with that health regen tho?

I avoided the issue of health regen because pricing out health regen is a pretty iffy matter when it comes to cost-effectiveness.

However, considering pretty much all other defensive items got worse, and resists got more expensive across the board, that would make Warmogs better then before just by the pure fact that it is still about as good as before, maybe even slightly better.

It's in the beta atm. You can look on the Live Stream and see a few pros who are playing it atm (ROOTCatZ right now). There will be a "mini" tournament (8 person, invite+qualify) involving HotS but the "main event", the main tournament (40 person, invite/qualify), it's going to be on WoL.

Anyone have any experience with support Maokai? Really want to try it out in some ranked games tomorrow but I'm not sure if i'm just setting myself up for some hurting. Playing rankeds at about 1.6k ELO if that makes any difference. Season 3 support items would be so good on him, Locket, Mikaels, Shurelias, Twin Shadows...
20% damage reduction, 2 CCs, scoutbombs and a strong tanky passive... something to think about or just keep for the normals?

There was no indication that it was only in reference to the Starcraft side of things. It said there would be three events at IPL6 and listed three Starcraft events, that seemed like a pretty definitive statement. Might have been some overreaction on my part but that was a shitty press release.

20% damage reduction, 2 CCs, scoutbombs and a strong tanky passive... something to think about or just keep for the normals? Only played it pre-30 with a friend who loved Cait and bought her as first champ, but that's because traps (the reason she loved Cait) + saplings make for hilarious zoning capabilities. CC and damage-wise, Leona would be superior to Mao I think (despite her not having sustain), so it really comes to his superior base stats and the utility on his ult. As a laning tool it's not that great since it lacks the "oompf" of a lot of supports' ult (just compare it to Zyra, Leona, Sona, Lulu... ) and despite having a relatively low cooldown, it taxes heavily your manapool so you can't spam it and the damage is meager.
