also i'm kind of doing what craton did with some data collection on his smurf i'm tracking every champ that everyone on both teams plays as well as how many dodges there are pre-game, leavers during the game, when i level up, other milestones, how many skins appear in each game, kda, farm differential between myself and the highest farmer/second highest farmer, and how many friend requests i get after each game. is there any other pertinent info i should be collecting? | ||

A huge difference is they killed IP grinding in custom games. IP from custom games used to be capped by # of games (6), and had a minimum of 71 so long as you didn't finish before 11:00. So you'd start a game with one bot, push mid hard, hold off winning until 11:00, and repeat 5 times. It took a little over an hour, but it was an easy 426 IP every day. A lot of people, including myself, would play for first win then farm 6 customs and call it a day. If you won your first win easily you'd play a total of less than 2 hours and have 600-700 IP to show for it. It was a little monotonous, but so ridiculously time efficient that it was well worth it. Today there's nothing remotely resembling that level of efficiency. | ||

Maybe the introduction of this mark killed the classic IP farm ward rush technique (I remember that it wasn't doable after a patch anymore). At that time however, everyone bought as many sight wards as possible and took champs with AS or AD buffs (Ez, WW, Nunu, GP etc.). Then we rushed mid before minions (and bots) spawned and threw the wards down to tank the turret. So before the bots spawned at 1:30, we already had two mid towers down and just sieged the 3rd until we got the inhib. Lvl 3-4 bots couldn't defend vs super mionions and it was GG way before the 11th minute mark. So roughly 30 minutes for 350-500 IP. Not too shabby I'd say. | ||

You must have made your account at a weird time, then. I got RP on both of my accounts (450 on one, 400 on the other), and some people i know that played for a longer period of time got enough RP for 1-2 skins so far. | ||

As far back as I can remember finishing the game before 11 minutes resulted in 0 IP, and every discussion of the topic I can find references this limit (e.g. this archive). There was a very brief period following the IP rework where you could 5 man push mid in 5 minutes and get the 43 minimum IP, up through the entire 3 hours of custom game playtime, but that was squelched in less than a week. | ||

The 400 RP is since around last christmas, as every account not suspended/tempbanned that year received them as gift to promote attitude, and they added it to new accounts (upon reaching a certain level) to not screw people (also 400 RP is right below the first "interesting" stuff—namely skins—so it entices people to buy some more). All EU accounts got 450 RP the summer of last year too, because of all the server instability. This way a bit before the server split in EU. | ||
