Olaf and trundle share the same problem like Garen. Against any competent team you need someone else to go in first, because the enemy's positioning is far greater. However at lower plays, your statement is very true.
Olaf does have his ult for CC and the damage that any counter initiate might do. Olaf will do better at initiating than a Garen, that's for sure.
Yeah, but when it's midgame (around level 11, one big item and shooting for the 2nd max) and people sit 5v5 at towers, I can axe them and run into tower range, sure, but I'm generally not fed enough to tank all that during the time it takes us to win the fight. And as I mentioned, it's when one lane (typically bot) loses and I'm the strongest asset on the team. Can't have me sacrificing so we can dive then. ^^'
What happens is people sit at their tower, push the wave, go back under their tower when I axe them for quite a bit of damage, our AD isn't fed enough and/or picked someone with no range like Vayne. I guess it'd go better at higher Elo, where people wouldn't be so indecisive and I could better trust my teammates to follow-up if I straight up dive. Lots of early advantages have been blown up that way when people would farm back after a 5-6 minutes standoff. Worse if when I'm the strongest on the team, I can't even go splitpush because my team won't stand the 4v5 even with the tower advantage. Need to step up on that too.

He still suffers from having no gap-closer.
Ghost+ult is an ok gap closer.
Nowhere near the point and click ones like Wukong, Irelia, Lee, Xin etc have, but it closes the gaps.

Olaf would be broken with a gap closer. He's balanced around not having one, like udyr. An olaf with just ghostblade can destroy champs other melees wouldn't think of diving on in a teamfight. He just is really farm dependent because he's a melee who isn't naturally very tanky but scales well off tank stats. (like cassio or something)
@ihasaKAROT I think the Noc + TF combo showed itself to be really strong by fanatic at IEM so i'm guessing its FOTM. Fast clear junglers...everyone loves them.
Everytime I pick corki people "counterpick" me with caitlyn but as soon as I get some levels I feel like i have alot of success just zerging her. Most caitlyns are really bad though so i'm probably just talking out of my ass.

It still isn't a good first-initiation thing, unless you're playing against less competent players like i stated a few posts back. Don't missunderstand me, olaf is stronk as fuck, but he's no initiater and he will never be.
What do you guys think about rushing Zekes on a bruiser solo top for your survivability item instead of a wriggles? Now after the wriggles nerf it's not as good and Zekes gives many useful stats, not to mention the aura. o.O
