Seriously every single time I'm frustrated with LoL because of the whole "You're reliant on random dudes in solo Q" and try to find something different I feel stuck cause it doesn't seems as if there's much else out there. =(
5men premade is kinda what's keeping me with LoL. On November 29 2011 06:13 spinesheath wrote: Chess. On November 29 2011 06:20 TheYango wrote: Brood War? Adding some of my personal favorites poker and Go to the pile. Hard to find interesting competition for poker without spending money though (and it's difficult to spend money on online poker in America atm). I already make my money by playing poker. =P Go is awesome though. Dno, I loved BW so much. Kinda feel like no "modern" game can keep up with it. /bitter vet mode off. PS: Chess and Go are games with full information though, so they're not as cool as let's say LoL/Poker/Starcraft. Gizmo, I have fuck no clue about Bridge. I know that it's a game with cards. That's it. Where do I start? =P Edit: I actually think I'll look into Mahjong, too. Wanted to do that ever since that Anime erh... Akagi. TL never disappoints. Cheers guys. <3
You should try it out! Japanese mahjong is totally kickass compared to Chinese which is almost just random and luck based and a hella lot more fun than poker as there is no real pressure.
I played poker for a living as well for a few years and I love analyzing, problem is that the game is boring as fuck and just for money and just totally destructive mentally some days, hence I found it worth quitting instead as even though without the money I'm a happier person (also got harder with time as you know but that was not the reason).
Played BW quite a bit enjoyed it thoroughly and then SC2 but I quit as I took it too seriously not really having fun and just feeling pressure when laddering. Started playing LOL love the game, can take it seriously analyze the shit out of it and I'm having so much fun just playing it.
Go is fun as well but too skill based, same with Chess you cannot win ever if you are worse hence not so much fun.
So that leads me and hopefully you to mahjong, it is JUST like poker except the downsides you can take it serious and enjoy it like crazy. It is just so fun when you start off especially if you have some friends as well. I watched Akagi many years ago and was tought the rules in Japan and could indulge in the game. Although Akagi seems incredibly ridiculous some times it actually can teach alot of strategy when you look into what is happening more and the anime gets better by the minute you learn the game. It is actually sick how much like poker mahjong is, it works exactly the same way except it looks totally different.
The problem with Mahjong though, unlike go and poker is that the rules are a pain in the ass to learn and it will probably take several days to understand most of them, but when you do the game is just wonderful. If you want to learn I can try to teach you it if you want but it won't be easy.
Hope you find your new game!

A big variable that's easy to forget about for starting players is champion price; grinding out IP with very limited champ selection is painful! If they want to try ranged, ashe is good and very cheap, but tristana's jump is very forgiving when you don't have flash. Ryze is solid as a mage - forgiving, easy, very potent. If they want to try their hand at jungling, nunu is another 450 that I imagine could jungle at high health with the new masteries, even without runes. All of these champions have an easy out, essential when new players overextend out of inexperience, but don't have access to flash. If they want to duo with you, and find support fun, soraka is a good choice. All these heroes (save trist) are 450, so if they don't like the champ's role, they can easily buy another to explore. Trist is "free" if you like Riot on facebook.

Has anyone watched stonewall's second video about the jungle remake? My head exploded 5 seconds in so I need a transcript or summary or something.

I think that Vlad's E is free when you're at 1 health, remember someone saying that a while back.

As someone that learned to play LoL not too long ago on Tristana, I would also highly recommend Tristana as a first champion to learn. It mainly just helps to have a long-range and forgiving champion to just get the fundamentals of the game (like last-hitting, which was harder than it seemed!) So I also had Singed for free (I had gotten a Riot Singed code), but I personally found it more difficult to learn on Singed because he doesn't rely on auto-attacks to last-hit and because he's melee - when you're new and can barely get last-hits, the last thing you want to worry about is other people attacking you! I remember reading guides say Singed could farm super easily and never die, but I somehow was still missing last-hits and frequently getting low health and sometimes dying even with ulti up, which I thought was supposed to be impossible.
So I don't think it necessarily has to be Tristana, but she's probably the most accessible champ with longer range and easier mechanics. Zilean was my 2nd champ and he was also pretty noob-friendly with easy escapes and long range, but noob allies not knowing what my ult did was pretty frustrating...

late game run real fast always farm always kill never die

@ the smogon stuff not really intending to offend anyone here but smogon has one of the worst communities i've seen for a game like ever :/

speaking of chess, you should try Tempest Chess. not many people play it so the scene is really small, but that game is intense.

Just looked up a video, that game looks awesome.
I have never had any idea what Bridge is about, but if you say it's fun, smash, I trust you.
My parents taught me to play Cribbage when I was young. I'm not sure if it's really competitive at all, but I find it pretty fun to play. My dad and I used to play a lot of Chess when I was growing up. I wish we played more, but he still beats me relatively consistently.
