Yeah, despite what people say, I think if you make Windslash instant and super fast, it becomes really almost too powerful. It's basically an AoE execute at a moderate range, and is already really good if you can land it consistently, which isn't all that hard.
Q is gonna be really, realllllllly good. W is already good, buff will just make it great. Won't be any easier to land.
E is going to be potentially crazy good. 1:1 AD scaling shield is already great, this will make it better at low AD amounts and more available.
OP? No. But now I'd place her way more viable than some of the other AD champs.

Lol, she sure isn't Lee Sin. Amazing AD scaling is really good, but a 10% missing health ability, lifesteal, and super long dashes trump it. Riven's are more like hops, Lee gets to fly around the battlefield like a hummingbird.

And Lee gets AOE wither, personally I hate that shit more than anything else on his kit but that might just be the Akali main in me.

Champion with high skill cap is released Champion is complained about Champion gets hotfixed with extremely powerful buffs
I'm not saying they're the same character or anything, I'm just saying, it's the same progression and after Lee Sin, that progression makes me wanna punch a baby in the face and punt a puppy out a window. The least they could do is give characters 2 weeks before they go nuts with buffs.
|
Yeah, Lee vs Akali is kind of a joke :\ He just builds Atmog's, ignores your stealth bubble with E, and eats your damage like a tank. I don't know if Lee needs nerfs, but he sure could use some.

But you've got pro players who play her twice and say she sucks. What can Riot do if players stop trying to make her viable? All their new champs have to be somewhat relevant. Either the players were right and now she's going to be good, or they were wrong and now she's going to be OP. Riot's choices are to buff her or let her fade into obscurity until some brave and smart player figures her out.

Eh, I always kind of figured that she'd be a sleeper champ. A really viable one that no one played because they didn't think she was good, but one person busts her out at a tourney and wrecks face.
The buff was pretty quick and probably unneeded, but it's nice and as someone who plays her as a "second main" (after Cait), I'm not gonna complain about her being bad. She was perfectly viable.
And not all their new champs are "somewhat relevant", to be fair. Skarner is kinda meh (everyone agrees), and Wukong is mostly forgotten. People realize Yorick is on the verge of stupidly strong, but no one plays him.

Ki shout garen, get Q-slashed whilst he has the stun logo.
Like laning against Garen wasn't fun enough. Ended up dancing around him like an acrobat trying to score last hits.

To be honest it's Riot's fault, not the players' fault. A lot of heroes get figured out and spike in popularity, EVENTUALLY. Pro players are particularly notorious for being stubborn, less inventive (for the most part), and have little to no patience with stuff that don't suit their wants... especially when it comes to new heroes that may or may not be the type of hero they like in the first place. If they're taking THESE PLAYERS into account as their #1 motivation for changes then they're fucking stupid.

Riven is a fun enough champion that people honestly would have figured out her strengths pretty quickly if Riot gave her a chance.

I think it's in Riot's best interest to buff their new champions so that the top players play them more. There's something to be said about perception of ability (even if it isn't indicative of actual ability) in LoL. If pro players aren't playing Riven because they think she's too weak, that effects sales of Riven and her skins at every level. A lot of mid-range people look to the champs that their favorite player plays to determine who they want to play. Not only does this hotfix help Riven's sales, it helps her become more tested so that they actually know if she's at the right level. If she is retardedly OP after this hotfix, then they need people playing her at a high level to find that out.
So, even if she's not actually weak on release, what matters to Riot, at least in the short term, is that she gets played at a high level. It helps balance her out and get more people to spend money on her if they provide more incentive to pro players to play her, which is largely through buffs. Nerfs can always happen later if she's way too strong.

I know Xpecial tried to make her work but from what I have seen of his game with her yesterday where both of us were playing her, he hasn't been able to make her consistently dominant even in the normal environment.

Just because one pro can't make a champion work doesn't mean that they're bad. I've seen some really really good Rivens already from other pros. There are a lot of good players that can't play certain champions or champion types, so don't write her off because of one guy.

But see, with Skarner and Wukong the issue is mostly a matter of terrible hero design (they're nothing new), and with Yorick they tried to do something gimmicky but ended up having a batshit retarded hero to balance.
In the grand scheme of things, unless they rectify the fact that heroes who can't farm are terrible, then stuff like the Yoricks and Wukongs of the world will always be subpar and a nightmare to balance, because the moment you start balancing based on the notion of getting less farm (LS as a jungler) then you start having stupidity issues when they DO get farm.
Such is the problem with Wukong, who has nice scaling, but cannot farm without getting Wriggles on jungle (and is still terrible because his base scale sucks too much for Wriggles), and so he's got some very very basic problems that they wouldn't be able to fix without some sort of re-work...
... and that has been his problem since he was introduced. Basic bad hero design.

Yeah, but honestly I think their time would be better spent fixing champs that aren't up to spec. If they suddenly made Skarner really good and gave him a new skin, they'd probably get just as much money as they would from Riven getting minor buffs when she was fine as is. Maybe I just don't have a mind for the business lifestyle.

yorick is pretty beast imo, both in lane and as jungler.
