I wouldn't call Ryze easy, either. His farming is one of the hardest for awhile.

I don't want Udyr or GP, so that cuts down on some jungle options. I haven't seen much of Jarvan lately, did he get nerfed recently?

Unless you have played something on a free week and really liked them, don't go out of you way to buy anything past 3k when you're still starting out. Get a few cheap champions and play whats free and work on some basic rune sets. Reds - Armor Pen (205), Magic Pen (205) Yellows - Flat Armor (205), Mana regen per 5 (205) Blues - Magic Resist per level (205), AP per level (410?) Quints - Armor Pen (1025), Flat AP (1025), Flat HP (optional; 2050) Once you get all of those (excluding maybe flat HP), you have a reasonable rune set for almost any champion. Go ahead and get more champs from there, but eventually you want to expand your rune pages. Reds - AD Yellows - Dodge Blues - Flat CDR, Flat Magic Resist Quints - Flat HP, Movement Speed There is a decent attack speed one, but I forget which. There are some other runes out there that have uses, like yellow HP per level or mana runes for Ryze, but you can really go without them. mostly good, with some exceptions, mp5 runes are considered purely a crutch except in some extreme cases, so i wouldn't recommend getting used to them. Typically for mres blues, you want flat if you're laning and scaling if you're jungling. Since most low lvl ppl aren't jungling too much, i would go for flats. i wouldnt recommend dodge yellows, super niche imo. Attack speed usually is either reds or quints for junglers, and sometimes yellows. I usually run mixed quints for my jungling, but idk what most ppl do. I've actually been running more and more mixed runes. getting joug-itis i guess. edit: ah yeah, and most ppl seem to be running ad and apen for quints and reds, pick one or the other, so either red apens + ad quints or ad reds + apen quints. I think most ppl prefer the former

AD quint = more than 2 flat AD reds.

I don't worry about getting the specific armor pen values that are best vs creeps etc, I just want the most efficiency per slot.

I'm also kind of curious what other people do to prepare to play a new hero. Besides asking for suggestions here it was. Read the wiki on hero finding on what their abilities are Read guides finding out the items builds and play styles Watch a video of someone actually playing the hero Play co-op vs bots just to feel what the ability do Then finally PvP with hero. Not sure what more I could do expect have a coach with me lol. Though some prep is because I have no idea what a lot of heroes do because I was playing vs bots.

Used to run attack speed quints, switched over to AD quints as they are just much better overall, more stats. The difference is very noticable. I watch a lot of streams, so most of the time I have seen something played and try to emulate what worked. Guides are useful to see common items built for the champion. You're better off ignoring standard mobafire guides (99% of the time they're far too squishy) and looking for ones written by high Elo players (Mobafire does have a separate section for this and Solomid has some as well). There are a lot of VoDs floating around between CLG, Solomid, Tournies, and some misc. streamers.

Used to run attack speed quints, switched over to AD quints as they are just much better overall, more stats. The difference is very noticable. ASpd Reds + Armor Pen quints should be a greater damage increase in jungle than ASpd Reds + AD quints for autoattack junglers. Going 12 armor -> 0 armor is a 12% increase in physical damage taken, and AD quints provide 6.75 AD--roughly equal damage increase at level 1 for most junglers, and the Armor Pen scales in effectiveness as your AD increases. On August 21 2011 15:37 UniversalSnip wrote: I don't worry about getting the specific armor pen values that are best vs creeps etc, I just want the most efficiency per slot. Strictly speaking, Armor Pen is the "highest-efficiency" stat to get because of how comparatively hard to itemize it is while still being a multiplicative damage stat, especially if you're not hitting the 12 Armor Pen soft-cap vs jungle creeps. I can't think of any autoattack-based jungler that I would not try to hit 12 armor pen on (though that 12 armor pen might come from a mix of runes and masteries--for example using 10 armor pen + 10 AD on Lee Sin with 21/0/9 masteries). Though I would run more than 12 on many junglers (e.g. Olaf can run 25 armor pen because he's already ridiculously fast in jungle, and can just rune for midgame/ganking damage). Depends on the jungler. Some have great dodge synergy (Udyr), while others have antisynergy that actually affects their damage in jungle (Rammus, Amumu), and many don't really care.
