Academy of Art University
Pros -Campuses all around San Francisco, with free shuttles going everywhere so if you like the city you'll like this place. -Most people are pretty chilled out and not very competitive (at least in my experience). -Easy to get into. -Screen free movies every so often. -A lot of equipment you can rent for free if you're in the appropriate class. -Awesome film program (what I'm in) and from what I've heard (although my sources are obviously biased) the best game development school in the country. -Since this seems to be a pro for a couple of others, a lot of asians...although I don't think they're in the film programs since despite seeing a crapload of them around the campuses I rarely see any in my classes...
(I live off-campus so I don't actually know too much outside of classes)
Cons -Supposedly it's hard to graduate since instead of just collecting credits, you have to display your portfolio or demo reel or whatever the hell it is actors might show, in front of a panel of professors who judge if you can graduate. -Our mascot is the Urban Knight, fucking lamest mascot ever

Out of harvard yale and princeton, we have the best looking girls according to collegeprowler
And you'll dominate everyone here in SC cuz people suck (but wait for SC2 to come out; you'll be worshipped!)

UT Austin 5th year here~ Austin is a great city for students/young professionals; vibrant nightlife, major live music city (live music capital OF THE WORLD?), lots of local and major businesses around. Music isn't the only artsy/trendy thing going on here; film making is a pretty big thing in Austin as well. UT itself is a strong school, highly rated, lots of top notch faculty depending on what department you end up in. Business is one of the stronger programs here, as well as engineering. Other depts are good too. Really you can study pretty much whatever you want here. Of course we have strong athletics programs as well, so if you like cheering for good teams, UT is the place to be in TX.
Campus life is pretty good- Austin is, as mentioned, a great city to be "stuck" in the middle of, and there's always stuff happening on or near campus. UT is known as a party school, so if you're into that kind of thing there's always a party to check out; and if you're not (I'm not), you've still got plenty to do. Our newer dorms (San Jacinto, Duren) are pretty nice; the older ones aren't terrible, though if you live on campus, get into Jester West if at all possible. Not the nicest, but you'll be living right next to pretty much everybody and everything you need (unless you and all your friends are engineering students lol). Jester East has some of those perks but it smells (I'm not even making this up, nobody knows what it is) and it's where a lot of the athletes live, so shrug.
Pretty decent bus system, free for UT students, so you don't necessarily need a car. Good thing, too, since the roads in Austin aren't nearly as well laid out as Houston's, and the drivers here are really awful.
As for cons, it is a big school so it can be easy to get lost in the shuffle; you have to make an effort to get plugged in with peeps but it isn't too hard. If you like real Asian food of any sort, stick to Chinatown in Houston 'cuz the Asian food here is nowhere near as good/cheap. If you like Tex-mex or whatever, though, you're good to go. Badly planned (unplanned??) roads, terrible drivers.
shrug I could go on and on, UT is a great school and I've enjoyed my time here a lot (so much so that I'm stuck here for more than 4 years keke) but you should definitely come up and check it out yourself at some point.
As for Rice... good school, very eccentric though. Great place for soon-to-be-insane academic types and people who like drinking A LOT.

New River Community College:
Pros:
1) Cheap tuition 2) You can't get turned down!
Cons:
1) It's a community college. Shitty academics 2) It's a community college. Shitty sports/extracurriculars 3) It's a community college. Shitty parties.
Seriously. if you can avoid it, don't go to a community college. Now, since I've lived here for as long as i can remember, i can also plug:
Virginia Tech!!
Pros:
1) Good football team 2) Highly respected engineering program 3) Highly respected business program 4) Really good Chemistry department 5) Blacksburg has a very low violent crime rate (April 16, 2007 being the exception, not the rule) 6) #1 RATED FOOD IN THE NATION, BITCHES!!! (seriously, the food at West End is amazing, you have to try it! people from VT back me up on this!) 7) Starcraft? Let me introduce you Torgerson Hall, the perfect place for a LAN party. I've played starcraft there with friends back when I was in high school, we'd get 4v4s going no problem. Lag? What lag? 8) ROTC program is *the* best in the nation outside of the academies. 9) Winters don't really get too cold. We get a big snowstorm every now and then, but it's pretty rare. No other natural disasters to speak of. 10) Pretty good parties if you can find them. Just cruise the frats, though, and you'll be ok.
Cons:
1) Engineering program is cutthroat as hell. 2) Nothing to do in a small town most days. ><

Bowling Green State University Pros: -Ice Rink (It's a big deal if you're from the South like me) -Somewhat close to big cities like Detroit/Cleveland/Columbus/Cincinnati so you can catch big concerts if you really want to. -Good Saxophone Department -Lots of parties -Good diversity of people -Some pretty good lookin girls, although I guess there isn't a significant amount of great looking ones... haha.
Cons: -A lot of dumb people... -It's a small town (Not much to do) -Cold as a witches tit in the Winter -I know of a lot of teachers who I just didn't find qualified to work the jobs that they do.
Thankfully I'm transferring schools next semester...

Portland State University anyone? I am thinking of going there. My high school social science teacher told me that it is good for me as an international student.

eh, they aren't that bad. It's a good place to get all of your general education courses out of the way for cheap if you don't want to spend 100x the cost at a regular college. In fact I got all of my general ed classes at community college before transferring to AAU for like $80 instead of the $8000 I probably would've had to spend =/

1. It's part of the UC system, so you know it's good 2. It's not as hard to get into as Berkeley, UCLA, or UCSD. 3. Blizzcon is held near here, so you can go to TL events 4. Free cable your freshman year (it's included as part of your on campus housing) 5. Engineering program is really pretty good, aka top 20 in the nation 6. the weather here is socal weather. If it drops below 60, it's considered freezing. Cons: It's a big UC school- You must be social to get to know people.
Personally, if you can get in, my first choice was Berkeley :'( 7. Very easy to get academic scholarships. 8. City and campus is ridiculously clean and SAFE. (Irvine is one of the safest cities in the world - top 5 or 10? something like that) 9. Can get to any class within 5 minutes. 10. Will occasionally see KOBE BRYANT at the gym. (Plenty of people have taken pictures with him.) 11. Asian heaven. 12. Beaches are close. Cons: Cops are very anal here: will give you ticket for J-Walking at 3 in the morning. (no joke)
QFT that cops are a real bitch. 13) social life is kinda dead if you're not in a frat/sorority. i wasn't in one and you see a LOT of the same people at local house parties. the ice breaker is "didn't i see you at that party the other night?" However, know the right people and you'll have a sick good time at parties in newport beach and local areas.
