Not always, but it happens more often than not.
if you get into a prestigious school you most likely can "handle" the professors there
your valedictorian friend story is by far the rare exception of something going wrong, i've like never heard of people flunking out of college because the teaching style was different
i mean whats so hard about undergrad classes anyway, its a giant lecture hall, you go, do the reading, and volunteer when you know what you're talking about, how do you flunk out of that because of "style"

College professors expect a certain degree of maturity from students, and if you're still stuck in a high school mindset, you're just going to flounder.

How different is it in college? For one thing, I heard that you have to learn to take notes fast and only important things. Can you bring in laptops to classes and just type them?

Yes you can bring in laptops to lecture, depending on the class but aside from math or physics, a lot of kids bring laptop.
I prefer to write with pen/notebook then type it up while studying the concept!

yeah lecture is very lenient. You can bring a laptop, type your notes, do it old school and write them, you can use a tablet, you can even record your teacher's lecture (up to a certain amount for Duke at least) with the professor's permission. The lecture speed here isn't that fast, and the materials are usually on powerpoint which the teacher usually posts up on the school site. Also teachers aren't coming after your ass if you miss a lecture and shit, so it's all YOUR responsibility. And Hot_Bid, although I agree with your points in general, not all undergrad classes are straight up easy, it's not always about doing the reading and going to lectures, it's a lot more than that, it's a lot of personal investment to understand everything and stuff especially for a lot of math and science classes. However, yeah, it's not flunking out because of "style"... that's just a bad way to put things.

I prefer to handwrite stuff as well. I think it's a proven fact that you absorb more when you handwrite than type. So... yep!

Most colleges are notorious for taking people taking math and putting them through the shithole that are proofs. They expect you to know how to do them, only you get raped in the process. The class average for the last test was a 50 or something. Thank god it was curved upward like 40 points...lol

Some professors show slides for 12 seconds that you have no choice but to use a laptop if you want to write down even the words on the slide. This is not always the case but it was the case for me for one of my classes that I had to use a laptop or else I would miss out on stuff.
So i recommend investing in a laptop if you have the budget since it can definitely help a lot in my opinion.
UC San Diego, I feel this UC is slightly underrated since everybody talks about UCLA or Berkeley. This is still a great school that you should be proud of if you get in.
+ Some Amazing Departments that are better than UCLA's/CAL's (Biology?)
+/- Some of the 6 campuses are deathly quiet
+ Food is not bad
- Girls are ugly (as stated before for emphasis)
I'd put more except most of the stuff I'd input are seemingly true rumors, I'd have to talk to my friends at SD about this college.
UCLA continued:
+UCLA is much cheaper for what I feel is better overall academics although USC is #1 in film and great in Business and Acting.
Don't get me wrong USC and UCLA are both great schools its just that USC is very pricey.

only if you're in-state 
i am from out of state, and i pay $0 to attend USC. if i had chosen to go to UCLA i would be paying upwards of $40,000 a year.

Hell, if you wanted to surf the web, you probably wouldn't show up to class. In large lecture classes, professors could care less if you showed up, and the only thing that really matters are your midterms and finals.

my high school we always have like 5 kids on laptops taking notes and stuff during class
teachers dont care so.. i doubt colleges would do taht

Hmmm yea I might think about it. Is it an expensive private school though? I'd need a scholarship probably (as I'll need for WashU as well if I even get in.) Either scholarship or need-based aid w/e.
