So I went to the Courthouse... well, on the opposite corner from it because that's where some guy who sure looked like he was in the secret service was telling us to go. John McCain came in his bus, got out, and walked around the corner shaking hands. I got within 5 ft of him and one of my classmates shook his hand.
I was a bit disappointed that there was no speech. :|
awesome man, thanks for sharing, i love hearing about these kinds of encounters.
i wonder how many TL'ers here have seen the candidates at events, i know we've had a couple over the last year posted about
There was a massive Obama rally at the university where I attend graduate school back in March, but I didn't feel like waiting in those endless lines for it
"“Well, he’s the lesser of two evils and the last thing we need is another Republican in the White House. They got us into a war you know.” The “Republicans” didn’t get us into a war. The government did."
Stopped reading there. Cynicism has its place in questioning the government, but this is just crazy. Despite what many say, voting is one of the most fundamental rights that we have as Americans and people who complain about the government in power, but dont vote at all are just lazy (IMO). Just my 2 cents.
That man is an idiot and so are you. I briefly read through it and there's a fallacy in nearly everything he said, but quite frankly you're not worth the effort.
Puppet of what? Are you going to spout meaningless vagaries like "big oil" or "drug companies"? Or maybe cite the military industrial complex without understanding what it actually is? The two men have differing views on a number of big issues and even the socio-anarchist hero Chomsky admits this. There are no spontaneous figures in history, but that doesn't mean we don't modify the direction.
You're right sobomb, Bush didn't approve the Iraq war, detain people in Guantanamo, start the survailance program, deficit spend 500 Billion. These weren't policies approved by him. Obama doesn't actually want to nationalize health insurance. There won't be any changes at all right? It doesn't mater? The foreign policy will be the same right?

You have been contitioned to think that when it comes to your rights in your society its a bunch of donts, cants, wonts and nots. It would be great for someone who just doesnt want to make any part of the massive effort that is to change the society, free your self from any responsibility, but sadly, for you, its far from that.
BTW I liked some of Obama's answers in the interview but it was pretty obvious Maddow wanted to drop to his knees and suck him off. I've never heard a reporter try and finish a candidate's sentence for them before.

yeah sorry i thought everybody knew that olbermann and maddow are in the tank for obama about as badly as fox news is in the tank for mccain. i guess i got my answer on what you think of her rofl
Yeah, I used to love watching Countdown but I find it impossible to stomach this far into the campaign. There's just nothing new there. You know you're going to tune in and listen to Keith slam McCain for an hour while bringing in "hard hitting" guests like campaign advisers and Democratic spokespeople. The fuck.
It's no surprise he wants Obama to win, and it's no surprise he's trying to help. He's an editorialist and while I still respect the guy as an intelligent commentator with good intentions, he's become too much of a blowhard in recent months.
Once the campaign is over, I'm hoping he can go back to his wittier, less sarcastic, less angry, more honest self. Cause goddamn his show is good entertainment.
edit: Plus I honestly love baseball analogies on political shows. Good baseball analogies, that is.
