Its more like, you dont shoot someone simply because they have a knife.

It's easy to say, but in reality, it's easy as crap to smuggle a knife (mix this knife in with kitchenware, I'd guess 99.99999% of the time no one will think hard about what TYPE of knife it is), and considering this knife isn't sold by guns dealers, but instead of yet-unregulated types of stores (maybe I'm wrong, and such stores are regulated far more heavily than I know), and the fact that some Asian countries apparently? sell it "OTC" is even more worrying. As someone said, this wouldn't be so insane a problem if this were some sort of gun-fired dart, ala tranquilizer, but rather that it looks exactly like a knife, thereby complicating would-be regulation. Just my opinion, though, we'll see, I guess. But if 18-year old mafia start stabbing each other with wasp knives instead of regular knives and causing 100% fatalities, I don't think we'd be saying "oh, badass!" anymore.

Seriously? Is that seriously what the law says? Because if you have a gun, and the other guy is attacking you with a knife, and you're not going to use your gun, then you are almost definitely* going to die. Well the deal is, that if you have the option to run (as you do normally from someone wielding a knife, or giant biceps attached to fists), you're choosing to kill them over simply protecting yourself, which is a crime. You could argue you could still run away from someone holding this knife, but in this case if they nab you as you're getting out of there and press that button... + you're a lot more scared... Law has to take that into account.

http://www.bangsticks.com/ What I don't see is any realistic test of effectiveness. It won't have the concussive force of a conventional powerhead, and it seems complicated and slow to use (stab, hold blade in target, hold down button). It's hard to imagine a situation where you wouldn't prefer either a powerhead or a pistol, although the portability and secondary uses are nice. I don't think they've really tested it properly on live targets. I think they just made up their detailed claims on what it does to the target based on straightforward, inexpert thinking. Compressed air is certainly a harmful thing to inject into a living target, but they're making some very strong claims about effectiveness and specific advantages. I particularly doubt the claim that it floats sharks up and away rather than blasting blood all over the place and provoking aggression in other sharks.

As for its effectiveness vs a shark/bear I can see it being useful if you are attacked by a shark you can make it go away much easier than punching its eyes/nose/gills. (Which works according to mythbusters.) I've never read about bears, but if one is attacking you, you would feel much better knowing that all you needed was a stab to get away if you are still capable of moving.

Not to be condescending, but the science is PV=NRT. You would end up blowing the beer out of the can/cup/keg. That being said, this would be perfect for that bear that's been trying to follow me around. Or the next time someone bothers me while i'm playing sc ![]() Damn Robbie, you really are getting smarter at school. For those of you who really are thinking of the militaries, almost everyone who has a knife doesn't need gas to freeze their enemy's internal organs so they die. Stabbing pretty much works, and if that doesn't work, stab again.
