PURGE 2008!
Short Version:
- Don't post like an idiot,
- Don't insult people,
- Don't judge people based on post count,
- Read over all your words before you hit post,
and you wont get banned.
Long Version:
We here at teamliquid are sensing some undesirable trends lately, and we are about to put a stop to it.
The average posting quality is going down, people are becoming to comfortable with bad manner, and the amount of quality, effort-laden threads is drying up.
Remember this analogy:
Imagine your friend invites you to somebody's house for dinner. You would probably be polite right? Then, once you got to know people you relax a little bit. TeamLiquid is just like that. If you are new, show respect, be polite, and have something to contribute. There are many people here who have been visiting this house for a long time. Respect that too.
People who break these rules are removed from the site, much like an unruly house guest.
There is a second part. Some people stay in the house for a long time because it is too much of a pain in the ass to ask them to leave. Well, you may now be asked to leave.
Think before you post. We have purged periodically in the past, this is merely an extension of that.

If the problem you're trying to solve is that a few insightful posts are buried in heaps of garbage, maybe it makes more sense to have some sort of rating/digg system for each post.
Banning lots of people will be pretty effective, but it's not an optimal solution because it fails to account for the fact that some mostly bad posters can have good posts, and some mostly good posters can have bad posts.

I try to make longer posts in strategy section or in " serious " threads, but a lot of my posts in blogs, or stupid topics are one liners .

Well they gave examples in the OP. My interpretation is that one-liners are something they want less of. But if you're actually contributing with your one-liner, I'm sure you'll be fine. Maybe you could expand and try to get at least say 3 sentences. If your one-liner is a superfluous joke, it better be a good one.

I expect new posters to respond to a thread in the way the thread has been going. That means if the there's a lot of long timer posters making one sentence non-sequiturs that a new poster would try to do the same. I have to agree that you can't demand a different set of standards from new posters. After all, there really just trying to fit it.
I'm not trying to justify bad posting, just that the quality of new posters posting is going to roughly mirror that of the average, and if a lot of old-timers are posting one liners, that's what to expect

The problem is less in the point itself than the manner it is raised - short one liners which look more or less as an attempt to start a fight than to (ie, me-tooism) than trying to constructively point to posters you feel are getting off too easy. Now, I do believe that the point of the TL 10 commandments has somewhat been missed by people (ie, that people who may are fundamentally not posting very 'good' material can often be acceptable if their record of posting good content has been proven justifiably before), and that's fair enough. When this is combined with the proven track record of the staff to have faith in posters of an acceptable quality (and this is only my opinion on the issue), if any one member is going to single out someone as a 'bad poster' and it's a gray area/leniency has been given, they should put together a pretty good analysis/walloftext which tries to be reasonably objective about analysis of someone's posting standards. In that manner, not only can we clearly see members who feel they have a point to make, but if any staff wish to explain their decision then they can choose to do so.
Otherwise it looks like trolling.

Its honestly not a huge deal - not a TL holocaust...more of a....theres too many deer (shit posters) and if we dont shoot some then there will be no ..plants or grass left? Applying this purge concept to myself - I post one liners all the time when ive been drinking - its not that big a deal. At the same time i organize alot of stuff for tl so thats probably what staff would remember. Dont stick out like a big red pimple and you wont get popped. hahah i could make these analogies all day.

That's not really surprising at all. It's not that difficult and if someone acts like an an idiot repeatedly it's quite easy to pick up. I used to frequent the Something Awful forums a lot, but it got to the point where pretty much everyone except the people who had been around the block once or twice was an idiot. So there'd be weeks of permanent bans instead temporary bans, because people weren't even reading the rules or the stickied thread at the top of every forum. You'd think people would be more careful because they had to pay ten bucks, but no. I don't even know how much any of it helped, because I began to understand the subculture of a subforum that had the hobby of going through other forums and finding stupid stuff people would say and getting others to know about it.
At that point I started to understand the forum way too much for my own good and just stopped going, because it wasn't even worth it anymore. I don't think TL is nearly bad as it was there, but it never hurts to be on top of things.

That was after twenty million other people each asked twenty million times whether the replays would be released and then asked for an explanation and then attempted to argue over it. And that's a lot of times to be asked which is why Mani gave you that answer.
And you don't get banned for challenging tl mods. Simply ask them why they acted as they did, rather than tell them they are wrong. Because his question can be answered in that post, so I suggest he read it. Why should I have to answer every question 500 times when the answer is already in the document that every new user is linked to?
In practice, this policy means a user who has 1000+ posts may be able to get away with a few minor transgressions in etiquette with just a warning. I agree with this post almost 100%, but I'm going to always say TL > GG, and even trying to relate this site to that one is not fair to TL.net. That site ruins my day when I visit. TL.net brightens mine instead  . And besides with TL Mafia I've been viewing more threads periodically. It seems like some of the content has changed, but I also noticed that there is always a good flow of stuff to read. I can't really complain about the users though most are cool too. Granted I just look from afar.

About moderation and TL.net taking itself too seriously, I really do think there have been way too many bans in TL.net's history. I say if a person has a long history on a site, or is an important part of the BW community, they should only be put on probation. If they act up again, put them on probation again. If you think this would be too much work, just hire one new "stalker mod."
The strange thing is I think the moderation strategy I outlined above has been applied to me.

Rekrul losing his modship was the first thing wrong that happened, making something like this necessary. This site is frequented by many awesome people exactly because they take is seriously, and you say it like its a bad thing. Tlnet(mods) shouldn't need a reason to ban people, and them going too lightly on people that should have been banned is the only reason this is necessary, because they need to catch up on the garbage around here and feel a need to let everyone know why.
8882 was a troll from the start. The fact that he lasted as long as he did is a credit to mods' collective leniency.
