And there ends that offensive. Tens of thousands of men, soldiers and civilians, thrown into the meat grinder to gain a measly few hundred meters of ground. It's astounding how close the parallels to ww1 are. I suppose next it's Ukraines turn to kick it all off again somewhere else

Pro-Russian guy on a Su-57 getting hit by a long range drone. Saw another comment that the price of a single Su-57 is enough to build hangars for every combat aircraft RUAF has on all their airports... Never mind that a drunk reservist with an Igla-2 or a small team with a Zu-32-2 should easily be able to shoot down the equivalent of an airborne turtle approaching in a straight line during daylight. It's not like it will have any effect on the current war at all but it's really weird that it even happened at all.

Russian anti-air systems are being recalled from Crimea and moved towards Belgorod. Soldiers in those units were ordered to evacuate their families from Crimea. I can only assume that air force and navy will follow since without AA coverage they're just sitting ducks. Ukraine has launched a multi-pronged attack in the Kharkiv region. Used over 300 HIMARS missiles against targets in the Belgorod region, taking out several radars, including the super advanced Kasta 2E2 radar system ($30 mil each) supposedly and some AA batteries. This allowed their air force to drop glide bombs on the concentrations of Russian forces in their recently captured territory as well as bombing a regional combined arms HQ near Belgorod. At the same time there are news of elite forces like Kraken and the foreign division taking ground back from the Russians near Czasiv Yar. https://www.technology.org/2024/06/10/ukraine-destroyed-a-specialised-russian-radar-system-what-makes-kasta-2e2-an-important-target/ Also an interesting but lengthy read: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/world/article-the-fearless-ukraine-soldiers-front-lines/ An elite squad of fighters has been on the front lines of every major battle for Ukraine’s independence. This is the story of their war.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2024/06/10/azov-brigade-ukraine-us-weapons/ The Azov unit have been vetted by the U.S. Department of State, who found no evidence of accused human rights violation, and the ban on receiving US weapons have therefore been lifted for the unit. It's an interesting story of a unit caught in the middle of the propaganda machine. Their roots are undeniably covered in right-wing extremism and neo-nazi ideologies, but after being absorbed into the Ukraine National Guard all the way back in 2014, there's been quite a high push to get rid of these elements. Currently, with 900 remaining members, they outright deny and avoid any right wing associations. Meanwhile, Putin is pushing hard on the idea that this unit not only represent fascism and Nazism, but that they somehow also represent all of Ukraine. This unit specifically have been used as one of the excuses to invade Ukraine. The unit are also one of the most filmed units on the front lines, with numerous videos on Telegram and Youtube, some of which I've posted here before (and are quite brutal, even with censorship of the gore). With their checkered past, constant accusations by Kremlin, continued hard fighting on the frontlines, being essential in several key battles, and their redemption arc, this unit would honestly be one of my first picks for a BoB style miniseries once this war is over.

Frozen russian assets are finally being unfrozen..and transferred over to Ukraine to uae against Russia. In a weird twisted irony, Russia is now paying Ukraine to get rid of fascists in Ukraine

Only revenue is being unfrozen at this time, as that likely isn't a violation of the idea of sovereign immunity. 1.5bn isn't exactly pocket change, but they should honestly start working on those remaining 300bn as well. Russia has comittet too many crimes to deserve any kind of immunity at this point.

It is very good news that the west is not transferring frozen Russian assets to Ukraine. It is a very big decision. The funny thing is that Russia also claims they have frozen western assets. But no one in the west has ever said they are worried about their assets being stolen. Of course, Russia stole all those airliners way at the start of the war. Which is a special story all on it's own.

Putin handed western companies out to his friends in classic monster style. As always with Russia it’s pure projection, they threaten to do what they’ve already done and accuse the west of it.

Because I know of a few far right wingers: - AfD - Alternative for Germany (Germany), 2nd place in EU election - National Rally - 1st place in France in EU election - Austria and Netherlands also had big support for far right wingers in EU election Not to forget where Hitler came from. So what's your point about Eastern Europe?

So what's your point about Eastern Europe? In Germany, the AfD is mostly strong in the eastern states which used to belong to the GDR. While not irrelevant in the west, they don't get anywhere near the same results that they get in the east, where they are often the strongest party. And i assume that Suibne means stuff like Orban in Hungary and PIS in Poland actually getting into power.

"Mapping the European far right in the 21st century: A meso-level analysis." Electoral studies 54 (2018): 103-115. But I actually mean young men that are literally neonazis. Not so much boomers voting for extremist political parties because they believe immigrants caused all their problems. The young men that are thugs here, are usually not politically aligned. But I see from that Hitler-comment that you feel personally offended. Sorry mate. Nothing I can do about that. Turns out richer countries with more urban areas and stronger left wing successful political parties have less far right parties and less neonazis. While corrupt poorer, more rural countries have more. The US is the same when you look at states. Has nothing to do with your cultural identity. The eastern vs western Germany AfD map of the last election shows exactly this. But it could be that being former USSR makes the right wing stronger regardless of the economic and sociological parameters I mentioned. If you look at the recent EU elections, then countries were the far right was in power, and failed is where the far right didn't win. Poland being the biggest example.

That's a pretty big number, and just about equals the last support bill from US

Might as well finally confiscate the everything and fund Ukraine directly. If the situation in Ukraine continue to deteriorate, it will happen, no doubt about it. Just like the supply of weapon to Azov battalion. My read is that the USA decided to provide weapon to Azov battalion so they determined they are no longer neo-nazis, rather than what they stated. Just the same as the USA did not found any Isrealis army committed war crime in their operation in gaza since oct 2023.
