Add this to the pile of reasons Trump is emotionally, morally, and intellectually unfit for office. Also, this is a good time to remind people that Trump told his followers not to believe what they see and hear, 1984 style. That's the only way to get them to believe shit like this or that it didn't rain on his inauguration. Good for him Puerto Ricans don't even have one seat in the electoral college.
Puerto Rico has no seats, but a lot of Hispanics have a lot of votes. Most Hispanics identify a lot more strongly with Puerto Ricans than they do Mexicans. Add the fact that Puerto Rico is a part of the US. Many Hispanics who don't mind the language directed at Mexicans identify more strongly with Puerto Rico.
Hispanics are a population that, whether today or tomorrow, will need to court at some point. There is no viable republican party 20 years from now that does not include Hispanics. Similar to how Bush's presidency left a huge dent in a generation of potential republicans, the same is true with Trump's handling of Puerto Rico today. It won't be THAT relevant in 2020, but 2028, even 2024 could be where it becomes less viable for republicans to ignore the hispanic vote.

Seriously, this is so overt it surprised me. Normally they keep their racism on the DL.
I don't understand the cast diversity crack about Thomas the Tank Engine... what is the NRA even saying here?
If I understood it correctly, and I might not have, the shopped picture was used as a weird proof that the show was already diverse and didn't need new characters like "Nia from Kenya"... I'm also struggling to understand this line of reasoning. I can't facepalm enough

Nah, he's doing it ahead of the storm Florence which is just about to arrive, to score "disaster political points" before it's even happened.

Yeah. It’s because the real death toll from Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico has become big news recently, and is obviously being discussed a lot in the context of Florence and hurricane season generally.
Trump has a congenital inability to acknowledge any failure or shortcoming, even when he was super aggressive about crapping all over Puerto Rico as hard as he could during the crisis. So he has to lash out and say it was the Democrats, Hillary or whatever. It’s what he does.
Florence looks like a giant disruptor getting reading to blast all over the mid Atlantic coast. Be safe, everyone.

So why wouldn't he be talking about how great of a job they are doing preparing for Florence? Why talk about Puerto Rico?
Talking about how great Florence is going is a great way to kind of imply the problems with Puerto Rico are their own and that they are doing the same quality of work now as they did with Puerto Rico, and things are currently going great...that kinda thing.

Because he has to lash out at anything that implies he is not the greatest US President, nay, greatest human being, in history. Seriously.

It also is a way to attack the Democrats, who have been gaining in the polls in regions that Trump won. Folks have to understand that Trump is a one trick pony. He attacks until he gets what he wants, which can only work if he is on the ballot.

They kept it on the down low for a long time, but now we are in the Trump era of outrage politics, so diverse characters in a children’s show an attack on white culture.

The only good thing is that his handeling of this disaster will be used against Trump forever. The way the communists tried to cover up Tchernobyl was a major reason why Sovjet collapsed. Trump should have known better. This will harm him, and for good reason!

They added a lady train, a train from china and so on. Basically the show decided to answer the age old question: What if our show taught children about the world with trains and airplanes? They decided to let kids know the wider world exist and people look different in other parts of the world.
This is multiculturalism destroying peoples childhoods and has to be stopped...by racism...or something.
Edit: Just wait till these clowns see Adventure Time and Steven Universe. Their minds will be shattered by that diversity.

This is multiculturalism destroying peoples childhoods and has to be stopped...by racism...or something. They always did it, just slightly less obvious. Mainly between the steamy's and the diesels. It is just the classic kids show that teaches life lessons. Like the absolutely wrong thing to pick on. Maybe they are not smart enough to realize it has always done this? The rage against multiculturalism is a hard one to pin down. Most of the stuff they rage about has happened previously without much drama, but today is framed as an attempted to "erase white culture" or whatever.
For example, I read Ironman comics. In the most recent run of Ironman, Tony has been missing and a black girl named Riri Williams has been serving in the role of Ironman(working with an AI of Tony Stark who picked her because he couldn't' use the suits on his own). She is called Ironheart, she built her own robot suits before all of this and the story has been fun. It is classic Marvel creating a new character to craft new stories around.
Outrage junkies leaped on it, saying they were deleting Tony to replace him with a black girl due to diversity. But the plot described above is nearly identical to the plot that created Warmachine as a super hero. Tony was an alcoholic, couldn't be Ironman and his black buddy Roddie filled in for him. These plots are normal in comics. They created Miles Morales(black kid who be Spider-man in the Ultimate Spider-man comic after Peter Parker died) and 4 different version of Robin, two versions of Supergirl(one called Power Girl, because people are bad at naming things) and so on. They are outraged as the basic narrative tropes of comics because they want to be outraged. Or in other cases, they profit from the outrage culture through services like Youtube and Facebook.
That culture of being outraged at any change that references any culture that isn't white, US culture is what created that dumb Thomas with KKK masks on. It feeds a demographic that has been fed a narrative that their "culture" will be erased by the simple existence of other types of people in the world around them. They don't really know what their culture is or how it is under attack, only that it is under attack.

Edit: this is really blowing my mind, are they just going full bore with white power now? Doesn't the NRA have black members? This is so fucked up.
Yes. They are full bore white power now. As you are noticing, the NRA is currently on about all kinds of stuff that has nothing to do with guns per se, unless you look at it as a gun-flavored lobbying organization for the GOP and right wing in America, then the non gun stuff like railing against diversity makes a little more sense from a strategy point of view. Also racial fear and resentment helps sell extra guns to their target audience.
|
It is really hard to find specific information on the NRA’s membership and demographics. They have been using the same “5 million members” line for almost 2 decades, which is weird. You would think that number would change in some way. They are very much a black box that it is hard to get an real information on that isn’t released by them.

If I may channel my inner GH with views that I do think are legitimate and real:
All of these militant-racist beliefs were around the whole time. The same groups the infiltrate police departments, local government...etc...it was all always there. But it had to act in the shadows in more subtle ways. "We are cutting costs, not targeting blacks.." and other stuff like that. In the age of Trump and Steve Miller, these beliefs have been converted into a more mainstream, acceptable doctrine. There has been a slow, steady unveiling of what has been here the whole time.
A lot of stuff was intentionally white power for a very long time, disguised as "tough on crime", "war on drugs", "balancing the budget" and other similar things that not only target blacks but also create situations so that blacks can be more easily targeted.
This all ultimately comes down to the fact that the North did not do enough to purge the south of their ideology. The south continues to fight for racial superiority in a lot of subtle ways. They are now in a position where they can safely get away with a lot more. They are seizing the opportunity.
