Which is like citing Louise Mensch's Patribotics blog for accusing Trump of colluding with Russia (they claimed that Orrin Hatch had become president in 2017...). Whether or not it's true, it's a shit source that makes your claim look super suspect.
I suspect we're going to see levels of defense at this or lower, since he's gone through what, 3 teams of lawyers in as many weeks? This isn't like last time when he had a crack team of lawyers. They declined, he got some good lawyers, they resigned, now he's got ??? lawyers.
Reading that it appears he’s gone from a crack team of lawyers to a team of lawyers who do crack.

Oh, so powell+lindell+rudy. The greatest. Unless rudy finally knows better now that he's not getting paid.

The means testing thing Democrats have been thinking on looks like it might be another avenue for them to piss people off with this stimulus check deal. I haven't entirely kept up with it, I have kept hearing that they've been debating limiting it from 75K to 50K, but some of the previous posts made me think they had overall decided against it.
The optics of it definitely aren't the best, this stimulus dealio has seemed like a lot of really unnecessary bad optics for Democrats.
Send the fuckin' money out. Do it now. You just came off the back of a narrow Senate run off win that was marketed as a "2,000 dollar checks if we win!!" this waffle-y business just makes it look like they want to be really stinge-y with aid during the pandemic which is not going to be a good way to go forward.
Makes me think this might be the last stimulus check they send out, which is a good way to let people's financial situations worsen while Democrats have full control over Congress and the Presidency, which is going to be a really not-so-nice look in 2022.

Apparently Trump's brief defending against conviction in the Senate cites to a professor from my law school 15 times. However, he insists they repeatedly misquote him and entirely misread the point of his law review article. All I know is that my wife had him as a prof and was not a fan whatsoever :D

Do you think solid legal arguments will have the slightest effect on the senate votes? I'm not so sure.

Yeah it's very unlikely that the Senate proceedings will be influenced by sound legal arguments, the entire thing is almost certainly a foregone conclusion.

It won't really be about getting Trump convicted, but rather making the GOP look as horrible as possible not convicting him. There is a true battle ahead there!

NBC is playing a huge montage of the armed insurrection at the US Capitol since they've started showing the impeachment trial. How anyone can watch this and not vote against Trump is beyond me, this shit is awful.
EDIT: Wait, looks like the Democrats played the montage themselves?

The funny part is when people try to say Trump had nothing to do with it, as if we had people occupying congress during other delegate tallying processes. Can’t seem to remember the last time this happened.

So far the presentation by House impeachment managers has been quite good, and they claim to have unseen evidence to show as well.

Hey they showed the professor Farv talked about, neat!
And yeah, this presentation has been fire emoji fire emoji fire emoji.
Not like its for the Senate though, I'm pretty sure every Senator knows how they're voting already, but this is a good presentation for all of the people watching, gets people primed to be outraged when Republicans do the wrong thing.

One thing that I think is interesting about this whole ordeal is: What if Trump passes away from natural causes between now and 2024? What if this entire calculus for senators ends up totally pointless? If Trump passes, its not like his kids inherit it. It's Donald Trump or nothing. It's entirely possible Trump is not in proper condition to run in 2024. That has to be a part of the cost benefit risk analysis being done by senators right now.
|
The reasonable thing should have always been to drop Trump like a hot potato and act like they never met him, just like Trump did to everyone he had someone else fire. This lends some weight to the idea that they're genuinely afraid of what the Qanon crowd does to them if they betray Trump, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for them. They curried the favor of these nutters, egged them on, and downplayed the dangers and consequences of their hate. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I think it's absolutely the case that Republicans have been taken hostage by MAGAts and I agree NewSunshine, I don't feel the least bit sad for them. That said, I continue to be worried that we've only gotten a taste of the MAGAt violence to come.

Yeah I think the MAGA violence stuff is going to have to be tamped out hard to be prevented, imo I think it should start by removing from all forms of power the people who act as figureheads for the movement in Congress like Ted Cruz. From there, rub Republicans noses in the insurrection at the US Capitol over and over, rub their noses in the eventual voting-not-to-impeach-Trump that they're probably going to do, and have a very aggressive agenda that brings more equality to the poor and disenfranchised people in the US. Huge government job creation for renewal energy, job training, minimum wage increase ASAP (15 is the barest assed minimum too, it should be closer to 20 or 25) and taxing the hell out of the rich. Make America at least look like it works for someone other than it's richest class.
Oh, and throw universal healthcare in there.

They could just pull a Trump and call them 'the terrorist party' every time they refer to Republicans for the next few years.

Something akin to that, can’t just be that though, I think you’re going to need to give a lot of Democrats reason to be enthusiastic beyond Republicans Bad to make sure there aren’t any nasty fascy surprises, imo.
