Make sure to change your lat/lon and screen correctly. I got it from here: http://jonls.dk/2010/10/redshift-1-6-released/ It still doesn't work quite right for me because I have to manually toggle it on/off in the notification area... but at least it's usable. I don't know why the hell I still have to do this... seems like such a simple bug for the devs to fix. Well as I said before, I got it running smoothly now, but I'm still interested in one or two things: .Does transition affect the way redshift transitions from daytime color temp to nighttime color temp? .What is adjustment method? When I call redshift manually and see what it outputs, it says using method randr or something. I supposed it's linked with that, but what does that mean? .Didn't know about that gamma input, what does it do?

At first I thought it was just some gimmick but it actually worked. Yup. That's why I have a hard time believing anyone who uses it for an hour and then denounces it as garbage or annoying. You have to use it for a while for it to have an effect. After a night or two of using it you don't even notice it but it will make a big difference.

I believe it's a boolean variable (just 1 or 0). 2.Adjustment method: the method it uses to change the screen's color. And the default is randr - whatever that means. I think it depends on your graphics card or something. All i know is I had to change this once to get it to work at all because my machine didn't support the one I had it set to use. I don't think changing this is going to do anything except possibly break it. I could be wrong about this. 3. Gamma is fun because it changes the color redshift uses. it's red:green:blue where the color is a value from 0 to 1. It's like html colors where all colors are made up of a percentage of red green and blue. By default it's set to a pinkish color. I just use the default. edit: On second thought, I could be completely wrong about some of these.

When I call redshift manually and see what it outputs, it says using method randr or something. I supposed it's linked with that, but what does that mean? Adjustment method is about how it internally changes the color : randr is a set of extensions for the X11 server that allows, among a lot of other things (rotating, moving and in general handling screens), to do what redshift does. I know of only one other adjustement method, which is vidmode, an old command that does thing similar to what randr does, except it is much older, and it seems to work outside of X transition is : if 0 then the transition between daymode and nightmode is instant (screen goes orange instantly) if 1 then there is a smooth transition between daymode and nightmode a la f.lux (btw, this is explained on the dev's website : http://jonls.dk/redshift/) EDIT : On December 17 2013 23:14 c0ldfusion wrote: This feels like advertising. .. Advertising, for a free Oh I can't find the source anywhere so I'll just assume it isn't open-source. Redshift definitely is though.

Slide the bottom slider to halfway up towards daylight. Keep in mind, it'll look reeeeeally odd at first but after a lot of use it'll stop looking odd entirely. I also recommend changing the transition from 20 seconds to 60 minutes, the 20 second transition is just jarring and makes you notice it every time.
