Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow?

Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen?

During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun.

f.lux
f.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.

It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.

This is a nifty tool I found while browsing the webs. I believe many of you will know about it, but those who doesn't - it's A-FUCKING-MAZING!

My eyes have never been so rested. I use a 6000K white light on my room, and even with such a strong light my eyes would get really strained at night(not much of a problem during the day).

I thought I'd share about it here because I really liked it and do recommend it.

I hold no affiliation with said website and yaddayaddayadda just try it out

Isn't there already a thread about this ?

I've been using it (and its alter ego redshift for linux) for 3 years now, and I'm pretty sure I first read about it on TL

So yeah, OT : great piece of software, I don't actually know how useful it is for your sleep but it's much less aggressive to the eye at night. I've used it on my desktop, laptop and (jailbroken) iPhone (where it's most useful since you use that during the night even when you don't plan on staying up very late - unlike the actual computers which if you use them at night probably means you're in for a long night of work - or gaming)

The warm light is pretty interesting I'll hand it to you.

Not sure if it really relieves strain from my eyes though.

Or you could just calibrate your monitor properly. You don't even need tools.

Or you could, you know, take a break from your phone or computer before bed time if you have sleep issues..... Talk about a first world problem lol.

Although, I will say that having the brightness adjust to ease eye strain is kinda neat.

isn't this akin to advertising? I haven't used it but friends have said it's a good tool.

Been using this for bout 2.5 years now, and I really do like it a lot. I just have to remind myself that as a graphic designer I'm turning it off when I need to.

It takes a while to get used to initially but it's definitely worth it in my opinion.

I used to use this on my laptop and loved it but for whatever reason it actually increases eye strain on the monitor I have now.

its designed to match the color temperature of your monitor to whatever lights you are using around you. for most people, they often only have a lamp or other dim light on at night, so it changes the colors of your monitor to match soft, dim lights.

Just a tip, you won't stand it at first few hours but then you will forget about it for a long time ;P

I tried it before.

Utterly useless and only seems to serve to mess with the colours of your games.

I found no difference in being able to sleep when I had Flux installed, and was much happier when I got rid of it.

Works wonder for me. Fixed my sleep issues with late night PC use. If only i could use this on my iphone w/o jailbreaking it.

Can't say much for the sleep part of it, but I've been using it for a couple years now and it's greatly reduced my eye strain. I used to get headaches all the time while at the computer, and I don't at all anymore since I've been using it.

I've heard about things like this but I don't need it because I'm perfectly okay staring into my iPad screen set at maximum brightness on my bed in total darkness under my sheets watching a stupidly pointless YouTube video at 2 AM when I have to get up at 6 AM the next morning.

I've used this for about a year now. It really does work on eye strain reduction. Every now and then I disable it for something or another and notice the huge difference in strain that my eyes must go through. All in all very worth a try if you're thinking of it.

It doesnt change colours ingame, unless you run them in windowed mode.

Its far from useless. I've been using it for years and it definitely helps with my sleeping patterns.
