Lu Di, 6, flexes his muscles as other students watch at a kungfu school in Songshan, central China's Henan Province July 26, 2006. According to the school's president Shi Yongdi, Lu did 10,000 push-ups in three hours and twenty minutes on July 22, 2006. Shi said the school was waiving his tuition for ten years due to his outstanding performance

Freaky. It is easier to do as a kid of course. I doubt he did complete pushups but it doesn't even change the ridiculousness. I don't want to be a mini-player-hater but I worry they gave him some illicit substances... if this is true. That or there is more truth to martial arts movies than I suspected

Well at that age you do not develop lactate in the same way as adults ect. I dont really remember all about it atm but I think that plays a role. Kids can do more anaerobic stuff than adults ect.

how many is that in a minute?

Working out your body like this is not good at such a young age. Your body needs to delop properly, and stuff like this can stunt your growth and cause other problems.

This kid was on a korea tv program. They went and filmed him as he was trying for his personal record (I don't remember the exact amount, it was a while ago) . It was crazy.. he would go on and on.. the kid has incredible determination. If I remember right his mom keeps trying to get him to stop but the kid just keeps doing pushups.

Hmm...

Math #1
((9.8N * 30Kg) * 0.5M) * 9 = 1323 Joules per pushup at a normal person's efficency of 10%.
1323J * 50 pushups/min = 66150 Joules/minute
1 joule = 0.00239 Calories
66150 * 0.00239 = 158.09 calories/minute
158.09 Cal * 200 minutes = 31618 Calories or 3161800 calories (small C)
31618 calories / 2500 calories = 12.64 lbs of weight lost (1 lb of fat = 2500 calories)

More Math
it takes 1 calorie (little C) to raise 1 gram of water 1 degree C.
3161800 calories / (36 Kg * 1000) = 878.2 degrees C

Even More math
1 watt = 1 joule/second
66150 Joules/minute / 60 = 1102.5 watts

So if he did 10,000 pushups he would have lost about 12.64 lbs of body mass in that 200 minutes. Also, his body produced the equivelent of 3.3 kilowatt hours of electricity. My house uses less. Assuming his body is 100% water, that is enough calories to raise the tempeature of 30Kg of water by 878.2 degrees.

50 push-ups in 1 minute will NOT burn that many calories, especially a boy his size.

In fact, with his compact size, I doubt he would burn that many calories in 20 minutes, though that range is far more probable than your original estimate. His range of motion is short and his bodyweight is low, so it isn't nearly as exertive as your guess implies.

High intensity cardio would be necessary in order for me to burn 160 calories in 10 minutes, and I'm literally 3x his size!

You might stunt your growth by putting too much strain on your body while training at a young age. However, the muscle already built will cause no harm.

Math #1
((9.8N * 30Kg) * 0.5M) * 9 = 1323 Joules per pushup at a normal person's efficency of 10%.
1323J * 50 pushups/min = 66150 Joules/minute
1 joule = 0.00239 Calories
66150 * 0.00239 = 158.09 calories/minute
158.09 Cal * 200 minutes = 31618 Calories or 3161800 calories (small C)
31618 calories / 2500 calories = 12.64 lbs of weight lost (1 lb of fat = 2500 calories)

I believe one pound of fat is equal to 3500 KILOcalories, not 2500 calories, so assuming the rest of your calculations are completely correct, that would change the result significantly. (As on foods and such, i believe 'calories' refer implicitly to 'kilocalories')

Even if my above assertion is incorrect, the figures you came up with seem absurd, and I'm quite certain that the world record for nonstop pushups is indeed above 10k

BTW, it might have been just the camera showing what they wanted to show, but I got the impression that his parents, especially his mom wants him to stop. She was almost crying and pleading for him to stop and the kid just kept going.. in most of these amazing kid stories it's the parents who push the kids but I think this is the other way around.. the kid, like I said before, has amazing determination. Hmm...

Assuming his body is 100% water, that is enough calories to raise the tempeature of 30Kg of water by 878.2 degrees.

he's definently not lifting 30 kilos. he is doing push ups which are substantially less than your full body weight.

also, 0.5 meters is way too much

actually, now that i look at it, i think you have some numbers mixed up?
is 9.8 N supposed to be 9.8 m/s^2?
and is * 9 supposed to be * 0.9 ?

Im sure theres a conversion missing somewhere; that 10,000 push-ups is probably like a thousand in American, and 10 million in Canadian.

I used to do 1,000 push ups throughout the day every day. Did them in sets of around 100. This kid doing 10,000 in a single setting averaging 50 a minute... disguisting.

China is fucked up though. When i went over there to play basketball i saw the team we were going to face warm up by running "lines" 3-4 times until nearly everyone was puking. The 6'10 guy ( guessing ) finished last so they made him do it another 3-4 times by himself... I got fucking sick just watching them. Not to mention it was over 100 degrees farenheit with 100% humidity.

It only says he did 10k pushups in 3 hours and 20 minutes, unless my thread skim missed it, it never said he did the consecutively (like one set). Maybe he rested. Either way, still amazing.

Given that there are 12,000 seconds in 3 hours and 20 minutes, he would only have about 2000 seconds (~33 minutes) to rest if he was going at 1 pushup a second, and he was probably going a bit slower than that.

Having said that, I call bullshit. It just seems so impossible.

That's still 50 pushups a minute.

Anyone else think that's a really stupid haircut? And do you also think that the kid who's really buff, the white kid, is one of the ugliest people, in general, you've ever laid eyes on? And does anyone else want to smash them with a sledgehammer or something? God... I fucking hate little kids, no matter how strong they are.

It takes alot of fucking time, and i was in great shape but not THAT great of shape to keep me motivated. Really helped my bench press and some other lifts but it didnt really define any of my muscles which at this point is all im going for. I still do pushups daily (now with crunches in the mix) because im more going for burning fat than building muscle. I do around 500 a day (not as strict) but in larger quantities. Ive always done pushups for football so its funny to me when its hard for someone else. I guess those muscles are just developed for me.

yeah seriously, if a six year old can do 100 push ups i would be very very impressed.

stop saying it's much easier for him cuz he is light, his relative muscle is much smaller and undeveloped too.

hell, i never seen a 6 year old do 10 push ups before.

so yeah.. 20,000, that's too much to believe, needs more evidence T_T

That won't really burn fat. For that you want an elevated heart rate of about 150 (since your young) for 30 minutes, and the HR has to be constant so things like pushups wouldnt work if you did a variety of those excercises. In most cases it is barely more than subtracting the calories you burn while doing it so you are really better off just eatting less than doing the excercise (if your goal is fat burning only). The exception is if you do it first thing in the morning, than you will burn fat very well (and dont eat for like 30 mins~ after you finish). I believe this is because in the morning there is a carry over from what goes on in sleep where your body only uses fat for energy (thats why you shouldn't cancel out that time by having midnight snacks).

The next best way is muscle building excercises. It increases your metabolism for a long time after the work out and more muscle means a permanent higher metabolism. I'm pretty sure those excercises won't build muscle. It appears you already built muscle and now you maintain it. If 500 is what you do for crunches than you must be doing the crunches wrong like most people. You shouldn't swing yourself like a door hinge you should crunch your chest from both ends like an accordion and just do a small number, like 20. And you can add weight if it is too easy. And lastly, it is pointless to work out the same muscle group more than two times a week (unless you're doing it for fun or something), it won't help.

Surely if you're going for defined muscles, push-ups are the way to go, since they do burn fat for you, which helps to give a cut look.

Thanks for the advice, im fairly undereducated on workout methods like crunches / pushups im more well read on actual lifts involving metal.

I do 150 crunches and i try to do them in the best form possible. I do 50 to right 50 to left and 50 to the middle getting both shoulders off the ground holding it and than slowly going back down. Burns like a mother fucker afterwards. I will try and get my lazy ass motivated to do em first thing in the morning as what you said sounds nice. I do 500 push ups in 2-3 different sessions throughout the day so intervals of like 150 or so.. i find it to be very nice and because im a larger guy it actually gets my heart rate up nicely. Im also running a mile a day and building up speed / distance. I think all the things together will do nicely.

I recently broke up with my gf so Im doing these things to get my mind elsewhere and make myself proud again. Id talk more about it but in reality it hurts so fucking bad to even think about it, so i will only mention this is my motivation to drive to the track everyday.

And that kid did 10000 push-ups in 12000 seconds. That's pushing-up for three hours 20 minutes straight with a push-up every 1,2 second! I wonder if I could maintain that speed for anyting more than 2 minutes.

Even a month isn't enough to do let's say 10x you used to do pass the 50/100 push-up.
I mean hell it'd even be hard... oO

Hmmm a month would be like 300-350 a day so it could be possible. At least at first. The question is how worn out the muscles would be. Maybe it would be better to do 650 one day and rest the other :D

You know that technique where you kinda keep your chin up while you do your crunches? Try that itll hurt more....also, try to limit your situps to 20-30, if its too easy do em REAL slow.
k?

Closest thing documented is guinesses record

9 years old, 9,263 push-ups in 6 1/2 hours on his fists in 2004.

http://www.unexplainable.net/artman/publish/article_1102.shtml

I'm sure that if he can do anywhere near 10,000, it will be substaniated soon.

I'd hit it.

his kidding?

any ways.

i saw the docu on that.

a lot of his pushups were cheating pushups, anyone who has done more than 200 knows what cheating pushups are.

but still, for his age that is amazing.

also the fact that his bones and his body is a lot lighter at his age does contribute but still amazing.

Ya know it's a lot easier to do pushups on a hard surface than it is on something like carpet or gymnastic mats. I do some in my room which has pretty thick carpet and it's tough to do 40, but when I did some on a factory floor it felt like nothing. Try doing them on your bed and then try doing some on the road. It's a huge difference.

Yeah try doing them while your parents are getting raped by two maniacal clowns with guns whilst your siblings are being slowly forced over a pit of acid by a large black man with 3 arms and a penchant for killing and a mexican cutthroat sitting on your back ready to slice you if you don't keep up with 50 pushups per min.

Or try on the road.
