Gaming Youtube Channels (What do you look for?)

Out of curiosity, what do you guys look for in gaming Youtube Channels? Is there a specific game you follow, or perhaps a game-type? Is there anything you don't see any more that you wish you did, or haven't seen but wish you did?

I for one subscribe to pretty much only Starcraft channels and I'd like to see more active Star Wars Battlefront 2 things (despite to being an older game).

I watch a lot of speedruns so one of the non-starcraft gaming channels I subscribe to is speed demos archive.
one thing that sc2 has over bw is the fact that I can actually manage my hotkeys

Mostly good commentary/humor. This guy http://www.youtube.com/user/penguinz0 always knocks my socks off laughing and Lets Plays like Game Grumps are also fun.

I watch Rooster Teeth's Achievement Hunter daily, but it was years ago. Other than that, mostly humour such as Criken.

I like channels that are informative and have this sort of atmosphere that says "let's open a few brews and talk about this video game."

Basically, Giant Bomb.

I still watch all of their lets plays religiously. Its the only gaming channel that I watch. For those who havent seen it, their lets plays focus purely on entertainment moreso than showing off skill or walkthroughs etc.

Passion.

Too many people worry about the trees but not the forest.

No one cares if you have regular updates, fancy channel graphics, flashy intros, epic personalities, or whatever if you don't got any passion. Just be yourself and do things you love. Day9 doesn't have to "try" to be Day9, it's just who he is. Too many people are trying too hard to force jokes and personalities and shit. The best gaming channels are the ones where you can tell the player is just being himself.

I watch some of TotalBiscuit's "Content Patch" videos to be kept up to date with the business. I used to watch his "WTF is" series but now I don't have time so I only watch the ones for AAA titles and the games that interest me.

+1

I watch Robbaz because he's entertaining/funny and not an annoying weird dude like most gaming people are.

Yup! I look for channels that are entertaining, I don't really care what they play. People, like in the channel linked above, can make anything hilarious.

Can't forget about Zero Punctuation on Escapist Magazine. Yahtzee is one angry (but mostly correct) Brit.

Eh, I think Yahtzee has kind of degraded a lot from his older stuff. He's kind of pandering to the crowd who only enjoys him because he talks really fast and has a british accent.

I watch a heck of a lot of videos from the Mindcrack server on Minecraft, and other videos from games they do that aren't Minecraft. Zisteau, VintageBeef, BDoubleO, Generikb, Guude, PauseUnpause, Etho, and a bunch of other guys among them. They're all entertaining/hilarious/creative as hell.

I subscribed to TotalHalibut's youtube channel for some WTF is... [insert title]. It's a great source for interesting games I otherwise would have missed.

For me it's more about the exposure to new concepts and ideas, not so much playing, so in general gaming related YouTube channels, such as lets play, don't interest me all that much.

most huge youtube channels annoy me because they have some random thing they do most notable for example is stuff like pewdiepie or gamegrumps, just shouting in a mic is not funny.
Good is EpicNameBro other than that i watch northernlions first impression stuff. I used to like TB but since he started shitting on good big titles like Borderlands2 and Bioshock infinite just to create some attention i stopped watching him. Also northerlion covers almost every game he does and is better at showing stuff of and is not as biased.

Other than that i have like 30ish smaller channels most of them under 2k subs for specific projects sometimes lets plays, some review channels etc.

I really don't feel like TB shits on games just to get attention. I feel like there would be much more effective ways of "getting attention"
On that note, I do watch his stuff, though sometimes it feels like theres way too many videos, and some of them are too long. Thats why I find his new digestive series so useful, though it looks like he's cancelling it :c

Overall though, I like hearing other people's opinions on stuff, so Let's Plays and what not aren't really my thing. I also prefer hearing opinions on more general gaming news, rather than games themselves, of which I prefer written reviews.

TotalBiscuit (Totalhalibut on youtube). Definitely the best gaming related channel I've come across, and I'm subscribed to tons of channels. Commentary is top notch, opinions are honest/concise, and his videos usually answer all the questions I have when I'm trying to figure out if a game is worth a buy. Really professional stuff.

How has no one here mentioned Husky yet? Guy's an awesome caster and I always watch his bronze league hero series. I also always watch Day9's funday mondays as those are a blast to watch.

For general video game content, I watch ForceSC2strategy. He's got a video series he releases a few times a week that keeps me up with what games are being released, general video game news, reviews etc. Definitely puts a lot of effort in his videos.

I also subscribe to Cosmowright and SwordlessLink, who specialize in speedrunning games.

Nah sorry, I just don't like certain games. I guess it's easier to paint someone as a view-baiter and dishonest rather than accept that not everyone has the same taste in games that you do.

But hey, I only spent upwards of an hour justifying my opinion with false, fake information to draw you guys in for cheap views, ignoring the obvious fact that the games I like almost always get way more views than the ones I don't *rolleyes*

God this is so true. The most attractive thing in a gaming channel is someone who really really enjoys what they are doing. Not just playing the game, but actually enjoying telling others about it and being entertaining.

To me, it doesn't matter who your sponsor is, how much money you have, or what your setup is but if you really like something it makes me more inclined to like it with you and continue to watch.

Same goes for streams and any other Youtube channel for that matter.

Robbaz is definitely one of the most entertaining imo he's so funny

He also doesn't force himself to do things and when he does do it, it is always good quality and funny shit.

Several really, some for keeping up with news and games (Giantbomb)
And otherwise it's really just who posts content that I enjoy for games I find interesting:
http://www.youtube.com/user/szyzyg Scott Manley (KSP)
http://www.youtube.com/user/ralfidude (Flight sim funsies)
http://www.youtube.com/user/Dslyecxi , http://www.youtube.com/user/CHkilroy , http://www.youtube.com/user/Beaglerush (ARMA, +misc others)

What they all share? They're fun to listen to, often have funny banter by themselves or with others, and are generally competent at what they do, but not above posting lovely bloopers. Oh and yeah, they enjoy what they do.
